  • Patent number: 8207628
Abstract: A power converter that gives priority to the high power output and only provides power to the low power output when the total potential output power is equal to or less than the rated power of the power converter. A specific power threshold is established, and when the high power output remains below this threshold for a period of time the low power output is allowed to turn on. If the high power output subsequently exceeds this threshold for a period of time, then an electronic circuit powers down the low power output in order to keep the total output power below the rated power of the power converter. Subsequently, the high power output is checked against the threshold to determine if the low power output can be turned on again. If the high power output is below the threshold, then the low power output is turned on.

  • Patent number: 8204784
Abstract: The disclosed method and system allows a credit or charge card issuer to provide its card members with a list of restaurants that might be of interest based on the financial transactions of similar card members. In one instance, this method filters financial transaction data from a plurality of card members that involves a plurality of restaurants to generate a set of candidate restaurant recommendations for a selected card member. This set of candidate restaurant recommendations is processed to yield a list of restaurant recommendations for the selected customer that is prioritized on the basis of the selected card member accepting the recommendation. The list of restaurant recommendations is then reported to the selected card member to enhance card use and marketing.

  • Patent number: 8204774
Abstract: The spend capacity of a consumer typically increases as the number of consumers in the household increases, since the consumer can draw on the spending power of other consumers in the household. The size of wallet of the household is thus a better indicator of the consumer's spend capacity than an individual size of wallet. All consumers in a given household can be aggregated based on, for example, their address of record. Duplicate tradelines within each household are removed from consideration in a size of wallet estimate. A spend capacity is then estimated for each tradeline using calculations derived from a consumer behavior model. The spend capacities for all tradelines in the household are combined to determine a household size of wallet. Each consumer in the household is then tagged with the household size of wallet, rather than their individual size of wallet.

  • Patent number: 8199709
Abstract: A method for operating an electronic device using a first and a second communication protocols is provided. The electronic device includes an arbitrator to determine whether to communicate in accordance with the first or second communication protocol. The method estimates a period for transmitting a trigger frame by the electronic device, a period for receiving a first acknowledgement (ACK) frame by the electronic device, a period of a backoff procedure, a period for receiving a predetermined number of delivered frames by the electronic device, and a period of transmitting a second ACK frame by the electronic device. All the above estimated periods are added to be a predetermined time period. The trigger frame is transmitted to initiate the electronic device to communicate in accordance with the first communication protocol. The arbitrator determines whether to grant the electronic device to communicate in accordance with the second communication protocol based on the predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 8195820
Abstract: The present invention facilitates the dynamic provisioning of computing and data assets in a commodity computing environment. The invention provides a system and method for dynamically provisioning and de-provisioning computing resources based on multi-dimensional decision criteria. By employing specialized computing components configured to assess an asset and requestor of an asset, a provisioning engine is able to transform the input from the computing components into a specific configuration of computing resource provisioning and security controls. According to the rules and policies applying to a security domain, the provisioning engine may dynamically allocate computing resources in a manner that is both safe and efficient for the asset.
