  • Patent number: 5339747
Abstract: A free standing modular office furniture system that includes geometrically shaped panels each of which is right angular, and has a minimum of three corners that are either 90.degree., 45.degree., or 135.degree., a right angle triangular leg assembly and connecting plates. Selected corners of the panels have a recess that is a right angle isosceles triangle that receives a plate which is connected to the leg by a bolt extending through the leg. The leg is a two-part aluminum extrusion and selected plates have two, three or four times the surface area of a recess and fit into that many recesses which also corresponds to the number of panels in abutting edge relation. The selected plates overlap the panels joining the same together as they are clampingly engaged between such plate and the leg associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 5158227
Abstract: A process for the continuous manufacture of seamless tube by confining a selected length of metal strip in the form of a tube and with at least two longitudinal abutting edges and completely melting a selected length of such tubular form to form a seamless tube and cooling the formed seamless tube. The cooling is preferably in a controlled atmosphere of nitrogen and the temperature is reduced to about 700.degree. F. before further processing takes place. In a preferred process the material is a single strip of metal formed into a tube with only one longitudinal seam and it is moved continuously through a mould heated by induction heating selectively controlled to cause the tube to preheat to a selected temperature and then be subjected to a temperature bringing the metal to its molten state to form a seamless tube and while the seamless tube is moving it is cooled downstream from the melting zone solidifying the metal and bringing it to a selected temperature before exiting the mould.

  • Patent number: 5129438
Abstract: A boom mountable tree processing head that incorporates a number of improvements, one of which is the ability to process more than one tree at a time. To do this, there is an accumulator type grapple arrangement and/or the trees are longitudinally offset for processing so that their diameters are essentially the same where they are gripped by the tree feed means. The accumulator grapple disclosed has two sets of grapples spaced apart from one another longitudinally along the processor with the arms of one grapple set being longer than that of the other. The grapple with the shorter arms also serves to press the tree against an improved endless conveyor type drive that propels the trees endwise for processing. Another improvement is the endless drive that includes two spaced apart driven endless chains located respectively on opposite sides of the feed path and interconnected by a plurality of somewhat resiliently flexible shoes. The processing head is hydraulically operated.

  • Patent number: 5118244
Abstract: A self-unloading load hauling box for use on a towed carriage or carried by a powered mobile vehicle wherein the box is a rigid unit having a bottom wall with a floor plate and side walls and front end wall projecting up from the rigid bottom wall. An endless belt is looped around the bottom wall and runs on a driven roller at the rear end and an idler roller at the front end of the box. The endless belt is driven through an arc of selected length at spaced apart intervals to unload contents from the box. The jerky action from intermittently driving the belt has a tendency to cause a vibration, loosening the content in the box and thus results in a relatively even discharge during unloading. Between the upper run of the endless belt and the upper surface of the floor is a friction reducing pad which also absorbs shock loads tending to reduce damage to the belt and/or floor when loading heavy chunk material.

  • Patent number: 5083953
Abstract: An improved apparatus for use in association with a vessel to facilitate raising the vessel and/or cargo carried thereby should it become sunken. The apparatus is readily attachable to or mountable on any equipment and includes a float having an upper portion with the upper portion being of larger cross-sectional area. The bottom portion has a recess therein. A cable drum is located in the recess and journaled for rotation to pay out a light duty line wound thereon. The light duty line has a knob attached thereto and which is also attached to a heavy duty lifting cable attached to secure lift points on the vessel. The float is mounted at an appropriate location on the vessel, or cargo and should the vessel or cargo (as the case may be) sink, it floats to the surface. Information concerning the sunken object size, equipment for retrieval, etc. is on a plate attached to the float.

  • Patent number: 5060516
Abstract: Method and apparatus for non-destructive testing the quality of manufactured wood panels which includes supporting the panel so as to have a portion thereof in cantilevered fashion. The cantilevered portion of the panel is caused to vibrate so as to include complex vibrations that include both twisting and bending. The vibrations in the panel are sensed providing an output signal that is fed to analyzers and computers to determine from the simultaneously induced bending and twisting vibrations respectively the modulus of elasticity and shear modulus of the panel. Two different forms of apparatus are illustrated, one of which requires the panel to be stationary while being tested and the other in which the panel moves continuously while vibrations are induced and the induced vibrations sensed.

  • Patent number: 5058331
Abstract: A modular office furniture system of hexagonal configuration is disclosed provided by walls formed from detachably interconnected posts, beams and panels. The hexagonal configuration provides efficient work space for workers and is laid out on a simple equilateral triangular grid. There can be anything from a single module to a multiplicity of modules arranged in groups or clusters. Visual and acoustic privacy is provided by acoustical panels, stackable one on top of the other and slidable into grooves on spaced apart posts. The posts have a lower portion to which there is attached a beam and such beam is grooved to receive an edge portion of the panel that provides the work surface. File and storage systems and shelves are mounted on the acoustical pad panels. Provision for electrical and communication wiring is provided in concealed channels through the beams and hexagonal posts. Hexagonal shaped ambient light fixtures are mounted on selected posts.
