Patent number: 4048861Abstract: A rotating body, such as a pulley or a guide wheel, is oscillatable along its rotational axis. The rotating body is carried by a longitudinal support having a cam surface extending generally perpendicular to the rotational axis. The support is mounted for rotation with a supporting shaft and is biased along the rotational axis so that the cam surface engages a stationary cam follower. Rotation of the shaft, support, and body relative to the cam follower results in the oscillation of the rotatable body.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1976Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Richard Paul Woidke, Thomas Joseph Wester, Eric Joseph Brosch

Patent number: 4037462Abstract: As disclosed herein, the dry density of a board product is monitored, preferably continuously so. The board is made by a wet forming process, which process includes preparing an aqueous slurry of at least some of the board's components, depositing the slurry upon a moving screen to form a moisture-laden sheet thereon, and removing the moisture to form the ultimate product. The dry density of this product is monitored by first simultaneously and automatically measuring the wet weight, moisture content and thickness of the water-laden sheet on the moving screen and from these measurements automatically calculating the dry density of the board product to be produced from the measured sheet.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1976Date of Patent: July 26, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Carl George Necker, Richard Rial Colwell

Patent number: 4037341Abstract: A sign lighting arrangement including a luminaire located in a predetermined position in front of a rectangular sign is disclosed herein. The luminaire includes a light source supported by an opaque housing, the uppermost edges of which lie in a common plane with the light source and the bottom edge of the sign. In this manner, direct light from the light source is prevented from passing under the sign (positive bottom edge cut-off). The luminaire also includes a reflector having lateral edge portions located in a fixed position relative to the luminaire's light source and the sign. The reflector and particularly these lateral edge portions are specifically contoured so that the lateralmost vertical edges of the reflected light substantially coincide with the side edges of the sign. Thus no reflected light passes beyond these side edges (positive side edge cut-off). A refractor is provided one purpose of which is to aid in achieving positive side edge cut-off.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1973Date of Patent: July 26, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Herbert Arnold Odle, Daryl Dean Sullivan, Kurt Franck

Patent number: 4012348Abstract: A mixture to be used making an extruded resin article, specifically extruded polyvinyl chloride pipe, and a method of preparing this mixture are disclosed herein. The mixture includes a resin, specifically polyvinyl chloride (PVC), in particulate form and a nonresinous filler material, for example, calcium carbonate, also in particulate form dispersed throughout the PVC. The particles of filler material are adhered to adjacent PVC particles to reduce segregation of the two types of particles. The method by which these particles are adhered to each other includes the use of a second resin which is also in particulate form and which has a lower melting point than that of the PVC resin.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1974Date of Patent: March 15, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Joseph John Chelland, Fred Everett Love

Patent number: 4006920Abstract: A joint assembly connected with one end of a heat insulated conduit which includes an outer casing, a concentric inner core and an intermediate concentric layer of insulation material is disclosed herein. This assembly defines a passage extending from the conduit core outwardly to the outer surface of the joint assembly. This passage is provided such that fluid therein and under a predetermined amount of pressure in the direction towards the outer surface of the assembly will move out of the passage in the direction of pressure, i.e., to the outer surface of the joint assembly rather than into the layer of insulation material comprising part of the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1975Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: Thomas Harry Sadler, Ronald Neal Cerny

Patent number: 3968274Abstract: A process of forming a visible textural surface on a decorative acoustical panel having a fibrous body portion is disclosed herein. This process includes coating an exterior surface of the body with a film of hardening liquid, distributing individual granules of particulate material generally uniformly over a substantial portion of the exterior surface to provide a granular texture to the surface, and coating the granules with a film of hardening liquid, which film is insufficient to eliminate the granular texture but which adheres the granules to the exterior surface. Thereafter a part of the surface on which the liquid coated granules are located is indented. These indentations extend from the exterior surface and penetrate partway into the panel body to cause the displacement of part of the surface, thereby forming wall portions. These wall portions include some of the granules.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1972Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: Johns-Manville CorporationInventors: David Andrew Harris, Bruce Edward Hart
