Patent number: 5930872Abstract: A device is provided for mounting and deploying a shrinkable clamp for hose and tubing. The device includes an annular housing in the form of a partial cylinder having a first diameter and longitudinal opening defined along its length by first and second circumferentially spaced longitudinal side edges. A first extension member projects circumferentially from the first side edge into the longitudinal opening, while a second extension member projects circumferentially from the second side edge into the longitudinal opening and is aligned adjacent to the first extension member to define therewith along with the partial cylinder a circumferential outer surface for the housing. A locking mechanism interacts with the first and second extension members for maintaining the relative positions of the first and second extension members and the size of the first diameter when the housing is subjected to a radially compressive force.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: The Gates CorporationInventors: David McBride, Richard S. Patent number: 5340167Abstract: The invention is a device for providing a clamping force about a connection end of elastomeric hose and tubing. The device includes a heat shrinkable polymer, having a diameter reducing release temperature, formed into a band. The band has a first nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter the band assumes upon being shrunk in free space and being smaller than the outside diameter of the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The band has a second nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter the band assumes upon being shrunk about the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The band also has a third nominal inside diameter defined as the diameter of the band after polymer orientation and before shrinkage, the third diameter being greater than the outside diameter of the connection end of the elastomeric hose and tubing. The first inside diameter is no greater than about 80 percent of the third inside diameter.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1992Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Assignee: The Gates Rubber COmpanyInventor: George E. Patent number: 5273844Abstract: An electrical terminal connector is disclosed for use in an electrochemical cell. The terminal connector includes a first terminal member made from metal inert to the environment within said cell and adapted for interfacing internally within the cell. The first terminal member includes a socket portion communicating with the exterior of the cell. The terminal connector also includes a second terminal member made from low electrical resistance metal and is adapted for engagement within the socket portion from the exterior of the cell.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Assignee: Gates Energy Products, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Casale, Ronald C. Anderson, Roger B. Britt

Patent number: 5220959Abstract: A gripping inflatable packer having an elastomeric bladder expandable to sealingly engage the outer surface thereof against the wall surface of the well bore to effectively inhibit the passage of well fluid through the well bore. The gripping inflatable packer has an elastomeric bladder with an outer surface sized and shaped to provide a portion that is engageable with the wall bore wall surface, upon expansion thereof. The engageable surface portion has a middle band portion extending cylindrically around the outer surface, and first and second shoulder portions disposed on either side of the middle band portion. Each shoulder portion extends cylindrically around the outer surface. The gripping inflatable packer also has a mechanism for gripping the wall surface of the well bore upon expansion of its bladder. This gripping mechanism includes at least one gripper device attached to the outer surface of the elastomeric bladder.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: The Gates Rubber CompanyInventor: James C. Vance, Sr.

Patent number: 5215339Abstract: The invention is an improved fluid transport conduit coupling having a substantially tubular stem defining a central bore terminating at each end in first and second perimeter openings, a conduit insert including a body member having opposing first and second portions and adapted to receive said stem, and latching means for limiting axial movement between the stem and the conduit insert upon sealing engagement of the stem and the conduit insert. The improvement includes a latch support means disposed on the stem and at least one disengagement slot proximate the first perimeter opening, and at least one radially deflectable locking beam extending substantially axially from the first portion of the body member conduit insert.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1992Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: The Gates Rubber CompanyInventors: George E. Morse, Jon A. Johnston, Richard J. Rubischko
