Abstract: A gravity-magnetic ore separator for concentrating magnetic or weakly magnetic minerals having a relatively high specific gravity is disclosed. The ore separator utilizes codirectional magnetic and gravitational forces to achieve separation capabilities in excess of that which can be achieved using gravity forces alone. Typically, the gravity-magnetic ore separator is formed by retrofitting a conventional gravity separator such as a spiral, cone, pinched sluice, etc. with magnets so as to enhance the separation capability of the conventional gravitational ore separator. Means are provided to prevent build up of magnetic material on the surface over which the ore flows.

Abstract: A cosmetic contact lens is lathe cut from a body of stacked discs fused together. The discs are made from hydrophilic polymer, some of which are colored (pigmented or dyed). The pupillary area is formed in a central zone of the lens from a clear layer. The secondary zone formed about the central zone is formed at least partly from one or more colored layers. The peripheral zone formed about the secondary zone is formed from a clear layer. All of the layers are disposed generally parallel to the circular edge of the lens, and the layers may be flat or they may be segments of spheres. This construction provides concentric rings of colors in blended, overlapping relationship for covering the iris and giving a cosmetic effect.
Abstract: An improved scraper hand tool includes upper and lower housing members defining a hollow casing and an operating member axially movable therein to carry a blade between a first interior storage position, a second cutting edge protracted position, and a third blade removal and insertion position. The operating member presents a full beam suspension design wherein a central thumb operating portion projects through a slot in the casing for operative manipulation by a user. Locking detents in the housing interior cooperate with laterally-extending arms on the movable operating member to assure positive positional locking of the blade in each of its respective positions.
Abstract: An extendible ceiling hook comprises an apparatus for suspending a hanging plant at various distances from a ceiling for the purposes of ease of maintenance, appearance and the general well being of the plant. An extension line, wound on an extension spool inside the extendible ceiling hook may be reeled in or out or made to rest at a desired distance from the ceiling by raising or lowering the suspended plant pot in a controlled fashion. The suspended plant can also be easily rotated to any desired angle to fully exploit any available sunlight and further enhance its appearance.
Abstract: A video conversational data communication network (30) in which subscribers (34, 36) may conduct conversational video textual data communications with one or more keystations (70, 602, 98) in the network (30). Each keystation (70, 602, 98) is associated with a keystation terminal controller interface (68, 96, 600) which is in turn connected to a switching concentrator computer (46, 48, 110, 112, 114) and a message switching node (32, 42, 44) for routing calls throughout the network (30). The concentrators (46, 48, 110, 112, 114) enable calls to be directly routed to controllers (68, 96, 600) sharing the same node (32, 42, 44) without having to go through the node (32, 42, 44). The controller (68, 96, 600) locally stores (304, 306) video conversational textual data for its associated keystations (70, 82, 84, 98, 100, 602) and enables two different designated keystations to conduct two different video conversations with a common keystation in a split screen display (76).
Abstract: There discloses a liquid-crystal display device which is effective for the display of images particularly in a TV set and in which the liquid-crystal layer contains a dopant in a specific range of quantity and insulating layer is treated with an alkoxysilane coupling agent containing a glycidoxy group.
Abstract: Bis-crown-ether derivatives having such configuration that the two crown rings may easily overlap spatially, holding a potassium or the like ion between them, and ion-selective membranes used for said bis-crown-ether derivatives as neutral carrier, which are useful as an ion sensor and are superior to the ion-selective membrane containing valinomycin.
Abstract: An interactive restaurant communication system (10) provides integrated food and entertainment processing which enables restaurant patrons to obtain menus for individual food selection on a video monitor (56) at their tables, individually enter their orders into a table station "intelligent" terminal (12, 14, 16, 18, 20) at their tables, select from and interactively play a variety of remotely retrievable interactive entertainment activities using the video monitor (56) while waiting for the food to arrive, and if desired, where applicable, have the food and entertainment charges automatically added to a composite bill which may be printed at the table station terminal (12, 14, 16, 18, 20) or at a remote central location. The food and entertainment functions of the terminal (12, 14, 16, 18, 20) are down-line loaded from a central data base (22, 32) in response to terminal requests therefor.
Abstract: A metal hydride container, comprising a heat pipe of annular cross section, a metal hydride filling the central cavity of said heat pipe, closure members serving to close the openings at the opposite ends of said central cavity, a hydrogen passage tube possessed of a shut-off valve and fitted into an aperture formed in one of said closure members and communicated with the cavity of the heat pipe through a partition member pervious to hydrogen gas and impervious to said metal hydride; and a metal hydride heat storage system comprising at least one metal hydride container above-mentioned, which is useful for storing solar heat and waste heat.
