  • Patent number: 5797561
Abstract: An unwinding station for fiber webs, particularly paper webs, features a support each for a new web roll (primary paper roll 16) and for a previous web roll (secondary paper roll) as well as a system for splicing the web leader of the primary paper roll on the fly to the web end of the secondary paper roll. This system allows the so-called flying splice. A drive unit (M) operating selectively as a motor or brake is coupled to the primary paper roll (16). An RPM control (24) or a web draw control (25) is coupled selectively to a control (20) of the drive unit (M) using a switching system (34). An additional drive (M') operating exclusively as a motor is coupled to the primary paper roll (16), and at that, during the period of time between the activation of the drive unit (M) and splicing the web on the fly, independent of the drive unit (M).

  • Patent number: 5788816
Abstract: A gap former, consisting of a double sieve former 3 which is made up by an inner sieve 4 and an outer sieve 5, is in the initial stage of the process wrapped around a roller press 8 with a diameter of at least 800 mm. After the sieves have traveled such that a given segment of the sieves is no longer in contact with the roller press, the segment enters between a number of contour brackets 10 and 11 at which time the segment is moving rather steeply downward. During this stage an upper layer 6 of paper or cardboard which has been compressed is deposited onto a lower layer 7 that is already resting on the primary longitudinal sieve 2.

  • Patent number: 5779168
Abstract: The invention is directed to a refiner and refiner tooling for economical refining of suspended fibrous material where the radial expanse of the working surfaces (7, 8) deviates from known designs in the following manner: the elevations (10, 11) forming the working surfaces, notably cutters, are several times interrupted, thereby forming grooves (16). It is possible to arrange the shorter cutters (10, 11) on the stator (3) side, on the rotor (2) side, or on both sides. These measures result in a particularly economical and uniform refining.

  • Patent number: 5780770
Abstract: The invention is directed to a fluid cooled electrical conductor assembly. The fluid cooled electrical conductor assembly includes a terminal having an open end and a fluid passage in communication with the open end. A sleeve is at least partially received within the open end of the terminal. The sleeve is metallurgically bonded to the terminal, such as by solder. The sleeve has a flared end disposed around an electrical conductor and a distal end disposed adjacent to an end of the conductor. The sleeve has a longitudinally extending groove which is in communication with the fluid passage in the terminal. A casing is connected to the terminal and surrounds the conductor to thereby define a fluid passageway at a periphery of the conductor. During manufacture, a single sleeve is swedged onto an electrical conductor and subsequently cut in half to define two substantially identical sleeves which may be inserted into respective terminals.

  • Patent number: 5767481
Abstract: A machine or making a fiber web such as paper with the fiber web having a running direction in the machine, the machine including a dryer section which removes moisture from the fiber web and a laser cutter assembly disposed adjacent the fiber web that generates a laser beam for cutting the fiber web. The laser cutter assembly includes a conduit that the laser beam passes through. The conduit includes a fluid inlet for receiving a fluid extinguishant such as carbon dioxide gas. A heat sink is used to prevent the laser through the conduit when the fluid extinguishant is absent in the conduit. The fluid extinguishant emitting from an outlet of the conduit inhibits generation of a flame caused by the cutting of the fiber web by the laser beam.
