  • Patent number: 8225954
Abstract: Heat-sealable seal including a support bonded to an inner seal by a temporary adhesive is provided. The inner seal has a pull-tab which is folded back once on the surface of the inner seal in contact with the corresponding surface of the support. The inner seal includes a laminate having a reinforcing layer and a sheet of a conducting material, to the lower surface of which is applied a heat-sealing film. The temporary adhesive is applied to the whole surface of the inner seal once the pull-tab is folded back. The seal is characterized in that the laminate has over its entire thickness a notch from which the pull-tab emerges, and a fold line formed by the pull-tab once the pull-tab is folded back, the fold line having a shorter length than the length of the notch. Methods of producing the seal are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8187561
Abstract: Processes and systems for recovering promoter-containing compounds, for example, perrhenates, from promoter-containing catalyst substrates, for example, substrates containing precious metals, such as silver, are disclosed. The processes include contacting the substrates with a first solution adapted to remove at least some of the catalyst promoter from the substrates, for example, an oxidizing agent, to produce a second solution containing catalyst promoter, passing the second solution through a porous medium adapted to capture at least some of the catalyst promoter, for example, a ion exchange resin; and passing a third solution, for example, a base solution, through the porous medium to remove at least some of the catalyst promoter from the porous medium and produce a fourth solution containing compounds having a catalyst promoter. Systems adapted to practice these processes are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8181791
Abstract: The present invention relates to a rotor element for use with a rotor and a rotor featuring said elements. The rotor is used in a screening apparatus of the pulp and paper industry. The rotor element (10) has two longitudinal edges, a first, so-called leading edge (12) and a second, so-called trailing edge (14); two opposite ends, a first end and a second end; and a surface (18) arranged between said first edge (12) and said second edge (14), said surface (18) being divided by means of a borderline (20) into a first, so called leading surface (22) having its origin at said first edge (12), and a second, so called trailing surface (24) having its origin at said second edge (14), where a distance (W1) between said borderline (20) and said first edge (12) is smaller at said first end of said rotor element (10) than at the second end of said rotor element (10).

  • Patent number: 8156623
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for removing condensed metal from the surfaces of metal processing chambers, such as, vacuum induction melting (VIM) furnaces having, for example, condensed Mg or Ti, are disclosed. The methods and apparatus provide a robotic arm end positioned in the furnace having a nozzle operatively connected to a source of dry ice. The robotic arm end directs a stream of dry ice particles against the surface of the furnace to displace condensed metal. The displaced metal is collected for reuse or disposal. Aspects of the invention provide a safe and automated process for cleaning process chambers and recovering metal that can typically be dangerous when performed by conventional methods.

  • Patent number: 8151789
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting solar panels is provided. Preferably, the apparatus includes a base, a solar panel receiving structure, and a support structure coupling the base to the solar panel receiving structure such that the solar panel receiving structure is at least one of elevated and angled relative to the base. The solar panel receiving structure preferably includes a base member, a first side member coupled to the base member, and a second side member coupled to the base member. Preferably, the first side member and the second side member are slotted so as to slidably receive at least one solar panel between the first side member, the second side member, and the base member.
