  • Patent number: 5607588
Abstract: An elongate scraper apparatus for scraping filter cake from a moving filter medium of a filter apparatus comprises an elongate bar or scraper having a length sufficient to substantially span the face of the filter medium upon which filter cake is deposited. The bar has a broad, continuous, smooth, front face that is parallel with the surface of the filter medium. The broad, front face of the bar or scraper allows substantial contact with the surface of the filter medium over the entire surface of the front face of the bar or scraper. The elongate bar or scraper further has a top face that forms a chisel edge at the top edge of the front face. The chisel edge points in a direction parallel with the surface of the filter medium. As the filter medium bulges outwardly, it applies uniform pressure on the broad face of the bar or scraper so that the bar or scraper flexes to conform to the contour of the bulging filter medium.

  • Patent number: 5549308
Abstract: A collet closer assembly for a machine tool has a body adapted to be attached to a spindle of a machine tool. A pair of bores extend into the body from opposite ends thereof. A collet is received into the bore at the distal end of the body and is immovably attached to the body. A closing sleeve extends from the distal end of the body and encircles the collet. A collet housing is attached to the distal end of the body to enclose the collet sleeve. A slide member is positioned in the bore at the proximal end of the body, and the slide member is adapted to be attached to the end of a draw bar of the machine tool. A mechanical linkage connects the slide member and the collet sleeve so that the collet sleeve moves in concert and in conjunction with the slide member and the draw bar. The collet sleeve closes and opens the collet as the collet sleeve moves forward and backward, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5523700
Abstract: Quantitative dopant profile measurements are performed on a nanometer scale by using a scanning capacitance microsope. A nanometer scale tip of the microscope is positioned at a semiconductor surface, and local capacitance change is measured as a function of sample bias. The method incorporates a feedback system and procedure in which the magnitude of the AC bias voltage applied to the sample is adjusted to maintain a constant capacitance change as the tip is scanned across the sample surface. A one dimensional model is used to extract dopant density profiles from the measurements made by the scanning capacitance microscope.

  • Patent number: 5452558
Abstract: A method is disclosed for permanently repairing roofs using a colloidal clay such as sodium montmorillonite (commonly called bentonite). A layer of particles of the colloidal clay is spread on the surface of the roof that is to be repaired so that the layer of colloidal clay covers any cracks or openings in the roofing material that are causing leaks. A membrane made of water impermeable material is then applied over the layer of colloidal clay particles so as to confine the particles underneath the membrane. During a rainstorm, water wets the colloidal clay, and the clay swells rapidly to form a water tight blockage between the roof and the membrane. Rain water cannot infiltrate beneath the membrane and thus cannot leak through holes or openings in the roof material that have been covered by the layer of colloidal clay and the membrane. The colloidal clay material is held permanently in place beneath the membrane, and thus the repair is a permanent repair rather than a temporary repair.
