  • Patent number: 7903572
Abstract: A data rate determining method and apparatus in a smart-antenna mobile communication system are provided. A ratio of other-cell interference to AWGN in total noise received at an MS is estimated and a power margin is applied in proportion to highly time-variant other-cell interference. • Patent number: 7889814
Abstract: A transmitter and a receiver are disclosed herein that support transmit antenna diversity using space-time block coding in a wireless communication system. The transmitter produces symbol combinations containing, as their elements, input symbols, the inversions and conjugates of the symbols, and symbols obtained by rotating the phases of the symbols once, forms a matrix having symbols in at least two columns orthogonal to each other with the symbol combinations, and transmits the matrix. The receiver detects symbols that minimize maximum likelihood (ML) decoding metrics over all possible symbols using channel gains from transmit antennas to a receive antenna. Also, the receiver selects candidate symbols among all possible symbols according to the characteristics of transmitted modulation symbols and detects symbols that minimize the ML decoding metrics.

  • Patent number: 7890844
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for transmitting a signal in a communication system using a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code. A controller determines a number of ‘0’s to be inserted in information data according to a first coding rate to be applied when generating the information data into an LDPC code, and determines the number of ‘0’s to be removed from the LDPC code. A ‘0’ inserter inserts ‘0s’ in the information data according to control of the controller. An LDPC encoder generates the LDPC code by encoding the ‘0’-inserted signal according to a first parity check matrix. A ‘0’ remover removes the inserted ‘0’s from the LDPC code.

By means of a channel estimator (290) the channels are estimated and a beam weight generator (310) generates respective beam weights from the channels of the respective pilot tones of the respective subcarriers according to the channel estimation result. A beam weight multiplier (230) forms the uplink beam by multiplying the respective beam weights with the output of the signal repeater (220) and IFFT units (240) generate respective OFDM symbols which are transmitted via multiple antennas (250) through an uplink.

  • Patent number: 7885487
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for efficiently enlarging an image, where the outermost Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) components from a DC value are regarded as high frequency components in DCT components expressed in one two-dimensional coordinate system, the edge signals of an image are restored by means of only the high frequency components, and then a binary edge mask, which represents the distribution of high frequency components within the image, is generated from the restored edge signals. Accordingly, an interpolation order can be determined based on the binary edge mask and interpolation can be performed. A higher order low pass filter is applied to an area having many high frequency signal components, so that it is possible to output more precisely enlarged image signals. In this way, that it is possible to improve the overall picture quality of an enlarged image, and to properly adjust the amount of calculation and buffer capacity, which are used when interpolation is performed.
