    Abstract: A vacuum pump for a seed planter includes a housing, an impeller rotated within the housing, and a motor or other drive. The housing has a central inlet and a circumferentially arranged outlet passage. The impeller vanes define air paths that are open to the outlet passage. The impeller has a central aperture for coupling to the output shaft of the drive and an impeller center cap screwed into the central aperture. The impeller has a curved conical center hub that surrounds the central aperture. The center hub and the center cap are configured to smoothly direct air flow to the passages between the vanes to reduce or eliminate a stagnant air region in a center of the impeller. The center cap can also be used as a tool to remove the impeller from the output shaft.

    Abstract: A food patty molding machine has a reciprocating mold plate. A moldable food product is pumped through a fill passage into a cavity of the mold plate when the mold plate is in its fill position. A fill plate, interposed in the fill passage immediately adjacent the mold plate, has a multiplicity of fill apertures distributed in a predetermined pattern throughout an area aligned with the mold cavity when the mold plate is in its fill position. A fill block is fixed to the fill plate and includes a plurality of inverted L-shaped passages corresponding one-for-one with the fill apertures. The mold plate includes a longitudinal slot to accommodate relative longitudinal movement between the mold plate and the stationary fill block. The mold plate includes a transverse slot open into the longitudinal slot that defines the molding cavity. Loose ground meat can be filled in a horizontal direction into the cavity to provide a customary appearance to the packaged ground meat.

The mold plate and knockout plungers are not mechanically linked to be driven together but are independently driven. The electric motor of the knockout drive system is a servo driven motor wherein the speed, acceleration, deceleration and dwell periods of the knockout plungers can be precisely controlled to be synchronized with the mold plate movements and positions, and for the type of food product, the output rate and the shape of the patties.

    Abstract: A breather air and food product fines pumping system for a reciprocating mold plate food product forming machine pumps air and fines to a collection area. A pumping surface is provided by a rearward facing surface of the mold plate. A pumping chamber is arranged between the pumping surface and a food product fines collection area. The rearward facing surface of the mold plate defines a movable limit of the pumping chamber. A valve element of a first valve is arranged between the pumping chamber and the collection area to create suction in the pumping chamber when the rearward facing surface of the mold plate is moving forward, and to allow the pumping chamber to pump air and fines into the collection area when the rearward facing surface of the mold plate is moving rearward. Breather holes in a breather plate are in communication with a breather passage that is in communication with the pumping chamber and with outside air through further valve arrangements.

    Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided for a product weigh scale for a food processing apparatus the weigh scale including a support for supporting a product, a member that carries the support, and a weight sensor that senses vertical load on the member. The sealing arrangement includes a seal surrounding the member beneath the support, the seal having a first sealing surface configured to be sealed against a cabinet, and a second sealing surface. The seal is movable between an inactive position wherein the second sealing surface is out of contact with the support and a sealing position wherein the second sealing surface seals against the support. The seal includes a stationary part having the first sealing surface and a sliding part having the second sealing surface. A plurality of springs urge the sliding part toward the sealing position and a source of pressurized fluid is injected between the sliding part and the stationary part to urge the sliding part toward the inactive position.

The plurality of pins protrude upward from the carrier, each of the pins having a sharp top end. The motive mechanism is configured for raising the carrier to elevate the top ends of the pins above the top surface of the endless belt conveying surface to receive and impale a first slice of a stack. The pins are then retracted beneath the conveying surface.

A guiding and pushing apparatus is arranged above the row and includes guides that are lowered to capture a row of stacked food products on the conveying surface, and plungers within the guides that lower and press a top of the stacks. When the conveying surface is retracted from beneath the guides and the row of containers, the guides are lowered further, adjacent to the containers, and the plungers are lowered with respect to the guides to push the stacks into the containers.

The frame structure includes an angular strut configuration for resisting horizontal reciprocating forces caused by the reciprocating mold plate and associated drive, and a tie rod arrangement for resisting separation-reaction forces caused by food product compression by a plunger in a pump cylinder of a food product pump. A base plate supports the frame structure. A first angular strut extends from a rear location forwardly and upwardly to an elevated central location and is fixed to the frame portion. A second angular strut extends from a forward location rearward and upwardly to the elevated central location and is fixed to said frame portion. The first and second struts transfer the horizontal component of the reciprocating forces into the base plate. A plurality of tie rods span between a backing plate that mounts a hydraulic cylinder that drives the plunger, and the pump cylinder.

    Abstract: An improved hydraulic system is provided for a reciprocating mold plate, patty-forming apparatus wherein food product is delivered under pressure from a pump cylinder to mold plate cavities. The plunger is driven during a first phase by force from a hydraulic cylinder from a retracted position distant from the pump cylinder to a ready position initially compressing food product loaded into said pump cylinder. Thereafter, the plunger is driven during a second phase by the hydraulic cylinder to load food product under pressure into the mold plate cavities. The hydraulic cylinder is supplied with hydraulic fluid during the first phase by a low pressure hydraulic fluid pump and during the second phase by a high pressure hydraulic fluid pump. According to the invention, the low pressure hydraulic fluid pump and the high pressure hydraulic fluid pump are positioned within a reservoir, at least partially submerged in hydraulic fluid held within the reservoir, during operation.

The trimming station includes a loaf staging support, wherein the loaf cutting support deposits the loaves on the loaf staging support after being trimmed by the knives. The loaf staging support is tiltable between a staging position to collect trimmed loaves and a loading position to deliver trimmed loaves to the high speed food loaf slicing machine.

Each compartment has at least one opening in the bottom and lower side to expose a corner of the battery to allow finger ejection of the battery from the compartment past the detent, and to allow the user to touch the batteries to ascertain battery size by feel. The assortment of batteries held in the frame is preferably pre-selected to correspond to the batteries needed by a particular profession.
