Patent number: 6268676Abstract: A support assembly for supporting a rotating shaft relative to a structure in which a first magnetized member is attached to the shaft for rotation therewith, a support member is connected to the structure and at least one damper member connects the support member to a second magnetized member for supporting the second magnetized member in a portion relative to the first magnetized member. The respective magnetic fields of the first and second magnetized members are such that radial deflective movement of the shaft, and therefore the first magnetic member, causes corresponding radial movement of the second magnetized member which is dampened by the damping member.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2000Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: Bell Helicopter Textron Inc.Inventor: John Elton Brunken, Jr.

Patent number: 6260676Abstract: A magnetic particle damper apparatus is provided for damping motion between two relatively movable members. The damper apparatus comprises first and second conductor members each attachable to one of the relatively movable members. The conductor members are disposed with confronting surfaces having a gap therebetween filled with a quantity of magnetic particles. A magnetic element is attached to one of the conductor members, producing magnetic flux which is substantially confined to a magnetic flux path defined by relatively magnetically permeable regions and relatively magnetically non-permeable regions of the conductor members to flow across the gap and through the magnetic particles. The magnetic field causes the magnetic particles along the flux path to adhere to one another and to the confronting surfaces of the conductor members producing a force opposing relative motion between said movable members and dissipating energy when the conductor members move relative to one another.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Bell Helicopter TEXTRON Inc.Inventors: Ashok K. Agnihotri, Stanley G. Sadler

Patent number: 6244532Abstract: A system and apparatus for winding a lifting cord. The device comprises a rotatable shaft (14), a wrapping guide (22) and a winding drum (12) mounted on the rotatable shaft (14) such that the winding drum (12) rotates with the shaft (14) and is free to move axially along the shaft (14). One end of the lifting cord (24) is attached to the winding drum (12). The wrapping guide (22) is configured to engage the lifting cord (24) such that as the shaft (14) and winding drum (12) rotate, the lifting cord (24) wraps around the winding drum (12) in even turns without overlapping and forces the winding drum (12) to travel axially along the shaft (14).Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1998Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: BTX Holdings, Inc.Inventor: Kelly A. Patent number: 5903743Abstract: A drill design aide for designing a drill having a plurality of positions wherein a user is able to access the drill design aide through a graphical interface which displays a drill being designed. A drawing module within the drill design aide enables a user to create and edit the drill being displayed upon the graphical interface. A count track module enables a user to create an initial formation and reshape the initial formation to a next formation without a user completely redrawing the next formation. A drill resize module enables a user to resize a previously designed drill having a first number of positions to a new drill having a different number of positions than the originally designed drill by either increasing or decreasing the number of positions within the drill.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: May 11, 1999Inventor: George Py Kolb

Patent number: 5897422Abstract: A sleeping brassiere is provided having a pair of shoulder supports, the shoulder supports extending to a back support, the back support extending from the back toward the front of the wearer and having a portion encircling the wearer and a pair of cup-shaped breast supports. Each of the breast supports has a generally crescent-shaped portion curving generally around the outside and top of the wearer's breast. The crescent-shaped portion has an upper end adjoining the shoulder supports and a lower end adjoining the portion of said back support encircling the wearer at a position generally between and below the breasts of the wearer when the brassiere is worn.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Inventor: Marguerite K. McGee

Patent number: 5796345Abstract: This invention describes a sensing device useful as a wet condition indicator, and is composed of a sensing element that produces electric energy when it becomes wet, and an informing means such as an integrated circuit/piezoelectric buzzer (speaker), light source or electrochromic device. The sensing element incorporates small amounts of non-toxic, non-allergenic substances and operates as a battery when wet. That battery produces enough electric energy to power the informing device without need of any other circuitry or batteries. This has the advantage of lower cost so that it can be used for a wet condition indicator in disposable diapers. One sensing element is incorporated in each diaper, and can be discarded with it, while the informing element is reused.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1997Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Inventors: Nicholas Leventis, William A. Galison
