  • Patent number: 7783963
Abstract: Encoded symbols of a concatenated convolutional-encoded and block encoded signal are presented to a conventional first stage of a concatenated decoder, comprising in sequence a soft metric generator, a Viterbi decoder, a first de-interleaver and a first block decoder such as a Reed-Solomon decoder. The encoded symbols are also presented to a delay chain to produce progressively delayed encoded symbols. Where an output block of the conventional decoder is indicated as being a valid codeword by the first block decoder, the bytes in this block are marked as being correct. These bytes that are known to be correct are then used after interleaving and serialization as known bits input to a second stage of the decoder process operating on the delayed encoded symbols and incorporating a modified soft metric generator constrained by the known bits. This process can be extended to further iterations as required.

  • Patent number: 7512073
Abstract: A method and a signaling node for reducing signaling during call setup in a communication network. The signaling node is an intermediate node on a signaling path between an origination node and a destination node. When a call setup delay is experienced, the intermediate node receives a first excessive delay indication signal from the destination node and forwards the signal to the origination node. A timer for supervising excessive delay indication signals is then started in the intermediate node. Prior to expiration of the timer, additional excessive delay indication signals received from the destination node are not forwarded. After expiration of the timer, the intermediate node sends a single excessive delay indication signal to the origination node.

  • Patent number: 7512104
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for preventing hanging resources in connection with an SRNS Relocation Procedure and/or a Routing Area Update Procedure for a terminal roaming in a UMTS or a GPRS network. According to a first aspect of the present invention, when the SGSN from which a terminal is roaming detects a fault after the Relocation Command in the SRNS Relocation Procedure, a Relocation Cancel Procedure also involving any involved GGSN is initiated. According to a second aspect of the present invention, a timer is started in the SGSN to which the terminal is roaming when the Forward Relocation Request in the Routing Area Update Procedure is received. If this SGSN does not receive a Routing Area Update Request within a predefined time period, the SGSN initiate a clean up of the resources that have been occupied during the procedures towards the involved nodes.

  • Patent number: 7417966
Abstract: In a data communication network (SYS) a first and second network site (BSS), (MS) communicate by sending a first data transmission (DT1) from the first network site (BSS) to a second network site (MS) and by sending a second data transmission (DT2) from said second network site (MS) to said first network site (BSS). In accordance with the invention data transmission characteristics (DTC1) of said first data transmission (DT1) are determined and radio resources for said data transmission (DT2) are allocated based on the determined first data transmission characteristics (DTC1). Thus, the radio resources for the second data transmission (DT2) are correlated with characteristics of the first data transmission (DT1) and thus delays in the data transmission between the first and second network site (BSS, MS) can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7403892
Abstract: A delay unit is provided to delay adapting modes of a codec if channel communication conditions are improving. A less robust mode having a higher intrinsic quality is selected only after some delay. The quality of the communication is measured to give quality values for successive measurement occasions. The delay unit comprises a plurality of memory cells in a memory for storing the quality values of the communication conditions of the channel for the most recent measurement occasions. A selector operates according to an algorithm for selecting one of the memory cells. The content of the selected cell is used to set the mode of the codec.

  • Patent number: 7392040
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a service negotiation between a mobile terminal and a server offering mobile services. A service request is received from the mobile terminal including a list of requested services, which is compared with a set of available services that the server can provide. It is then determined which services that were requested but are not available and cannot be provided by the server. A delta list is finally transmitted to the mobile terminal comprising the services not available, such that the mobile terminal can determine which services that can be used. A pre-defined tree structure is preferably used for specifying services in the service request and delta lists such that a single root node specifies all services in nodes subordinated to the root node. In this way, the amount of exchanged information and processing in the mobile terminal are reduced.

  • Patent number: 7389328
Abstract: The invention relates to end user controlled handling of personal data on e.g. the Internet. Web services are offered in a controlled manner from a service broker (250) provided with appropriate security mechanisms. The broker contains end user controlled policies related to personal data/services, while the actual data is arranged at different locations in the network. Web service information is published in an open registry (256) at the broker. When an application provider (220) finds a desired service in the registry, its service request is guided to the appropriate service broker. The broker returns the policy for the requested service, whereafter the service provider (240) can be contacted, preferably through an encapsulated SOAP message. A preferred embodiment performs common sign on authentication when a new application is contacted.

  • Patent number: 7257227
Abstract: A method for forwarding messages containing cryptographic keys from a conditional access system that controls a population of set-top boxes to an encryption renewal system. The method includes storing a fictitious address of a virtual set-top box; generating a message based on the fictitious address, the message containing a cryptographic key; and forwarding the message to the fictitious address of the virtual set-top box. The encryption renewal system has information regarding the virtual set-top box, and is the recipient of the message. In addition, the encryption renewal system is for controlling access to pre-encrypted content generated by an encryption device.

  • Patent number: 7237108
Abstract: A method for securely streaming real-time content from a caching server to an authorized client. The method includes the steps of encrypting an RTSP (real-time streaming protocol) message having a header and a payload, the RTSP message being encrypted in its entirety; and providing a first clear header for the encrypted RTSP message. Further, the method includes the steps of encrypting an RTCP (real-time control protocol) message having a header and a payload, the RTCP message being encrypted in its entirety; and providing a second clear header for the encrypted RTCP message. Thereafter, the encrypted RTSP message and the first clear header are transmitted, and the encrypted RTCP message and the second clear header are transmitted in order to securely stream the real-time content from the caching server to the authorized client.

  • Patent number: 7068719
Abstract: A mechanism for splicing advertisements, local programming and the like into a digital video transport stream is provided. In order to achieve proper splicing, an appropriate number of frames is inserted between bitstreams to properly close a GOP of the first bitstream into which a second bitstream carrying the spliced content is inserted. Program clock references (PCRs) of the bitstreams are adjusted as necessary in order to force continuity between the bitstreams. For inserting advertisements, the PCR of the program stream and ad stream can be tracked, and the PCR of the program stream can be used both before and after splicing. For local program insertion (which are typically substantially longer than advertisements), the PCR of the local program can be used, after adjustment thereof with an offset to maintain continuity at the splice point. The PTS and/or DTS of the inserted bitstream can be modified to keep them continuous at the splice point for both video and audio streams.
