  • Patent number: 5368194
Abstract: A package for beverage containers such as cans arranged in two or more axially-stacked tiers includes a carton having interconnected top, bottom and side walls. End closure structure connected to at least some of the walls closes one end of the carton. A dispenser for the containers includes first and second apertures defined in the end closure structure. The first aperture extends from one of the side walls and the bottom wall into the end closure structure, and the second aperture extends from the same side wall and the top wall into the end closure structure. The first and second apertures terminate remote from each other such that a portion of the end closure structure extends between the apertures and is connected to the side wall.

  • Patent number: 5311994
Abstract: A locking arrangement for interlocking two or more overlapped panels includes an outer panel having a locking tab at least partially covering a first aperture, the locking tab being connected at a base to the outer panel along a foldable portion. An inner panel has a retention tab at least partially covering a retention aperture, the retention tab being connected at a base to the inner panel along a foldable portion. The inner and outer panels are overlapped so that the locking and retention tabs are substantially overlapped with the foldable portions thereof in opposed relationship whereby the locking tab may be driven through the first aperture and the retention aperture to displace the retention tab into a mutually locked and braced position. The locking tab may be released from the locked and braced relationship by a pull tab struck from both the locking tab and the outer panel, the pull tab being connected to the locking tab and extending into the outer panel through the foldable portion.

  • Patent number: 5265798
Abstract: A tubular carton includes interconnected bottom, side and top walls. The side walls are disposed perpendicular to the top and bottom walls to form a sleeve, with a dust flap foldably joined to each end of each of the top and bottom walls. An end flap is foldably joined to each end of the side walls, with at least a portion of each of the end flaps being disposed perpendicular to the major axis of the sleeve. An alignment edge is defined along each side edge of at least one of the dust flaps, the alignment edge being defined by a portion of the side edge extending to the fold line connecting an adjacent one of the end flaps to the respective one of the side walls. A corresponding carton blank is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5161664
Abstract: A grouping mechanism (14) for grouping articles (B) in a continuous infeed stream comprises a series of spacer elements (16) adapted to engage successive articles from the infeed stream and locate the articles relative to one another as the articles are conveyed through a working reach (W) of the mechanism. The spacer elements have cam followers 18 for co-operating with a rotatable cylindrical cam which cause one group of articles to be spaced apart in the feed direction from a next succeeding group of articles while the spacer elements move through the working reach. A return transfer belt (40) is provided to return the spacer elements along a return reach (R) such that they are returned upstream of the working reach where they are disposed for engagement with successive articles in the infeed stream.

  • Patent number: 5139147
Abstract: A package includes one or more flanged cups, the cups being arranged and interconnected at their respective flanges to form an array. A paperboard cover having a polygonal main panel of an area generally corresponding to the area of the interconnected cup flanges is disposed over the array. A side panel is connected along an upper fold line to each side edge of the main panel, with each of the side panels projecting generally downwardly from the main panel. Each adjacent pair of side panels is foldably connected at their respective end edges through a pair of foldably interconnected web panels, the angle defined between each end edge of the side panels and the corresponding upper fold line being less than ninety degrees. Each of the web panel pairs are attached together in overlapping arrangement and disposed behind an associated one of the side panels, whereby the side panels are tapered inwardly with respect to the cups to secure the main panel to the cup array.

  • Patent number: 5068734
Abstract: A television control system is for selecting a television channel corresponding to a preassigned channel tuning designation. A tuner receives a multi-channel input signal, and in response to a processor signal, tunes out all but one selected channel. A memory stores at least one operator-assigned channel select designation for the channel tuning designations. An operator-actuated control means generates a first data signal representative of a desired channel select designation for one of the channel tuning designations, and a second data signal representative of a desired viewing channel identified by one of the channel select designations. A processor receives the first data signal from the control means, and in response, causes the memory to store the desired channel select designation as corresponding to the tuning designation.

  • Patent number: 5049902
Abstract: A system for recording an image utilizes a microencapsulated media wherein the microcapsules contain an image forming agent and a photohardenable composition. A cathode ray tube has a faceplate formed from an array of parallel optical fibers and a phosphor coating applied on an inside surface of the faceplate. The cathode ray tube is controlled to write the image onto the coating so as to scroll the image over the coating. The imaging sheet is supported and moved past the faceplate at a rate equal to the scroll rate, whereby an entire image is exposed onto the sheet. Adapting such a system to full-color images is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5049928
Abstract: A spooled photosensitive web cartridge and a spooled photosensitive web cassette are disclosed. The web cartridge includes a cylindrical core, a pair of end caps, a length of photosensitive material, and a leader sheet. The end caps are disposed coaxially on the core at an axial distance between each other. The photosensitive material is wound onto the core to form a cylindrical web between the end caps. The leader sheet is secured to the leading end of the photosensitive material, and includes an opaque wider portion circumferentially disposed entirely around the web to form a tubular enclosure. The wider portion of the leader sheet has a width greater than the axial distance between the end caps. The opposite side edges of the wider portion are detachably connected respectively to the end caps so as to mechanically retain the tubular enclosure on the end caps as well as to provide a light-tight seal between the tubular enclosure and the end caps.
