  • Patent number: 7189079
Abstract: Multiple small conductive and flexible hollow rings, each of which is made from a pliable material, provide a flexible connection medium for use between a substrate and a microelectronic device package. Each ring is soldered to both the substrate and the device and held in place during manufacture by way of a flexible non-conductive film in which H-shaped cutouts are formed and into which a conductive ring is inserted. The interior sections of the H-shaped cutouts extend into the conductive rings and hold the rings in place during manufacture. A portion of the sidewall of each ring is not soldered thus insuring that at least part of the ring stays flexible. The rings accommodate elevation differences on a substrate and electronic device package. They also provide a vibration resistant and flexible joint.

  • Patent number: 7157987
Abstract: A transmission line for high-frequency differential signals and having a transforming impedance is formed into a substrate. The transmission line is comprised of a first slot, the opposing surfaces of which carry a conductive surface capable of carrying electrical signals. By virtue of their dimensions, spacing and dielectric filler, the conductive surfaces constitute a transmission line. A second slot, also with opposing surfaces, each of which also carry a conductive surface but which are spaced differently than the opposing surfaces of the first slot, provide a second transmission line but with a different impedance. The impedances between the two transmission lines are transformed by an impedance transition section of transmission line that is slot section the dimensions of which are tapered to meet the different slot dimensions of the two different transmission line segments.

  • Patent number: 7156672
Abstract: A termination structure for mating a cable connector to a circuit board includes a plurality of associated sets of terminals, each terminal set including a pair of differential signal terminals and a ground reference terminal. Each associated set of terminals is arranged in triangular pattern through the connector in order to reduce the impedance through the connector, and the sets are fixed within modules or blocks that are engageable together to form a connector housing. The housing modules permit adjacent associated terminal sets to be easily inverted so that the ground reference terminals of alternating associated terminal sets are located along one row of the connector along with signal terminals of intervening terminal sets, while the ground reference terminals of intervening terminal sets are located along a second row of the connector, along with the signal terminals of alternating associated terminal sets.

Abstract: A connector-transport assembly for holding and transporting a electronic component includes a socket connector having a receptacle sized to receive the component therein and a transport carrier member. The socket receptacle includes two engagement arms formed therewith which are deflectable between first and second operative positions. In the first operative position, the engagement arms extend into the receptacle for contacting opposing exterior surfaces of the component, and in the second position the engagement arms are deflected away from the receptacle so as to not engage exterior surfaces of the component. The engagement arms have cam portions disposed thereon, and the carrier member includes actuating members disposed thereon in opposition to the socket connector engagement arm cam portions so that movement of either the socket connector or the carrier member will move the engagement arms between their first and second operative positions to release or engage the electronic component.
