  • Patent number: 4327880
Abstract: A spool of a spinning reel is retained on its shaft by latch means released by an axially shiftable push button. The reel shaft has an annular latch groove near its forward end and a spool supporting hub. The spool is suitably recessed to receive and retain a crosspiece and the axially shiftable push button. The crosspiece is made of elastomeric material formed with forward sloping faces and associated radial, inwardly directed lugs shaped to be retained in the latch groove. When the spool is inserted onto the shaft the lugs drop into the latch groove to releasably retain the spool on the shaft. To remove the spool, the push button is depressed causing ramp faces thereon to engage the sloped faces of the crosspiece and withdraw the lugs from the groove freeing the spool for removal over the end of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4326763
Abstract: An electrical plug includes a housing made of insulating material for receiving plug contacts, in particular, plug pins and coupling means for a feeder cable. The housing has a front face and a retractable spring-loaded release device received in the housing for movement between a retracted position, in which it is disposed substantially within the housing, and a withdrawn position, in which it projects outwardly from its front face. An actuation device is mounted on the housing for triggering movement of the spring-loaded device to said withdrawn position thereof by spring force, so that when the plug is received within a wall socket or a coupling having a mounting face opposing the front face thereof, the release device upon actuation will engage and push off from the mounting face to automatically effect or at least facilitate plug release.

  • Patent number: 4326852
Abstract: A method for increasing the bulk weight of silicon dioxide with a surface of at least 50m.sup.2 /g by means of sub-atmospheric pressure applied at a filter face, wherein the silicon dioxide is moved by means of a conveyor screw, whose longitudinal axis is arranged parallel with respect to the filter face and which preferably has a decreasing thread pitch in feeding direction. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of the treated silicon dioxide as a filler material for polymeric masses, especially diorganopolysiloxane, which is storeable in the absence of water and when admixed with water at room temperature results in a hardened elastomer mass.

  • Patent number: 4325769
Abstract: A method for making an axially extendable and contractable bellows is provided for use in monolayer photographic lithographic cameras and enlargers. The method includes the initial step of passing a single web of synthetic resin sheet material past at least one die having die edges arranged in a predetermined pattern for producing a separable bellows blank having fold lines formed therein for forming of multiplicity of pleats. Then the bellows blank is die formed and following its separation from the web it is folded onto itself to produce a seam which is then bonded. Finally, the hollow body thus formed is compressed along its longitudinal axis and along the fold lines so as to produce a pleated bellows configuration.

  • Patent number: 4322031
Abstract: A control for a sanitary mixing valve, includes an electric motor drive for the mixing water-control member in the mixing valve and a temperature sensor for measuring the discharge temperature of the mixed water. The analog values obtained by the temperature sensor are digitally converted and are fed to an electronic control means provided for one or a plurality of such mixing valves. The control means compares these values with previously determined nominal values of one or a plurality of nominal value transmitters and controls the electric motor drive based upon the corresponding value differentials.

  • Patent number: 4321944
Abstract: A check valve with a valve seat formed in the valve housing wherein two side-by-side locking members are pivotably mounted in the valve seat for movement between an open and closed position. The locking members have their pivoting edges mounted adjacent and parallel to each other in the housing and have bearing bushings formed along the adjacent edges which engage side-by-side shafts whose ends are engaged to the valve housing. A pair of locking springs each have their windings engaged to one of the shafts which are located between the bearing bushings. Each of said springs has a first shank portion which is rigidly supported by an abutment of the valve housing and a second shank portion which engages the locking member mounted on the same shaft of the corresponding spring to urge the same into a closed position relative to the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4312700
Abstract: To make solar energy competitive, as compared against other sources of energy, inexpensive solar cells are required. To accomplish this goal, a method is provided which enables one to produce silicon rods having a columnar structure made of monocrystalline zones with preferential crystallographic orientation. This is effected by feeding a silicon melt into a crystallization chamber having a vertically movable cooled bottom face under the influence of a temperature gradient directed parallel to the rod axis, so that the rods can be made continuously or semicontinuously with high drawing speeds.

  • Patent number: 4312850
Abstract: Pure silicon is obtained in a cyclic process by reducing quartz sand with aluminum; the finely divided quartz is dissolved in an aluminum sulphide slag and is reduced by molten aluminum. The molten aluminum also serves as a solvent for the elemental silicon which crystallizes out and precipitates as the temperature falls. Aluminum oxide formed during the reduction is extracted from the slag and passed on for melt electrolysis in order to recover the aluminum.
