Abstract: An absorbent article and method are disclosed for providing side leakage protection for an undergarment and absorbent article positioning guidance for proper placement on the undergarment. An absorbent configured to fit the pudendal region of a woman and a liquid-impermeable baffle are provided with a pair of garment-attachment adjustable scroll members for receiving an arcuately shaped crotch portion of an undergarment. Arcuately shaped curled folds on a lateral side surface of the absorbent article form the adjustable scroll members. In one aspect, the arcuately shaped curled folds are formed in a layer of polyethylene/polypropylene bi-component web sheet material. In one aspect, the arcuately shaped curled folds include a liquid impervious backing.
Abstract: An absorbent article and method are disclosed for providing side leakage protection for an undergarment and absorbent article positioning guidance for proper placement on the undergarment. An absorbent configured to fit the pudendal region of a woman and a liquid-impermeable baffle are provided with multiple pairs of garment-attachment nesting ridges for receiving an arcuately shaped crotch portion of an undergarment. Arcuately shaped pleats on a bottom lateral side surface of the absorbent article form the nesting ridges. In one embodiment, a pressure sensitive adhesive in each nesting ridge provides force to support the nesting ridge holding the undergarment in place during use. In one aspect, the absorbent article provides three or more garment-attachment nesting ridge pairs. In one aspect, the arcuately shaped pleats are formed in a bottom layer polyethylene/polypropylene bi-component web sheet material.
Abstract: A die cutting insert for a rotary die cutter is disclosed as well as the die itself. The insert includes a base formed on a predetermined radius. The base has first and second spaced apart ends and first and second oppositely aligned surfaces. A knife is formed about the periphery of the first surface. The knife has a cutting edge and first and second side walls. The cutting edge has a width of less than about 0.005 inches (0.127 mm). In addition, the first side wall is aligned approximately perpendicular to the cutting edge while the second side wall is aligned at an angle of at least about 15.degree. relative to the cutting edge. The insert also includes a mechanism for removably attaching it to a die shaft. The mechanism includes at least one aperture formed adjacent to each of the first and second ends. The apertures extend completely through the base and each is sized to receive a threaded bolt. The threaded bolts can be torqued to a predetermined value to secure the insert to the die shaft.
Abstract: A tampon is disclosed which is useful in preventing premature leakage of body fluid from a woman's vagina, especially during her menstrual period. The tampon includes an absorbent and a liquid-permeable cover. The cover at least partially surrounds the absorbent, and together they form an elongated softwind having a first end and a second end. The softwind is folded upon itself at a minimum of two spaced apart locations to form an M-shaped profile. The M-shaped profile is then compressed into a cylindrically shaped pledget having an insertion end and a trailing end. The insertion end contains a greater amount of absorbent than the trailing end and has a cleft formed therein as a result of the folding. The cleft causes the pledget to laterally expand immediately upon insertion of the tampon into a woman's vagina. The tampon further includes a withdrawal string which facilitates removal of the tampon from a woman's vagina.
