  • Patent number: 7433798
Abstract: A solid state inclinometer sensor system includes a digital network of devices. Each device of the network includes a solid state inclinometer attached to a mounting structure. The inclinometer includes gravity sensors and a processor. The gravity sensors are mounted to provide components of earth's gravity. The processor uses data derived from the gravity sensors to calculate inclination of the mounting structure and provide a digital output for transmission on the digital network.

  • Patent number: 7143004
Abstract: The device is a miniature, self-contained solid state orientation sensor. The unit utilizes three magnetometers and three accelerometers to calculate pitch, roll, and yaw (compass heading) angles relative to the earth's magnetic and gravitational fields. The three orientation angles are output in digital RS232 or optional multi-drop RS485. The device can also be programmed to provide raw accelerometer and magnetometer data in true physical units. The device is capable of measuring angles from 0 to 360 degrees on the yaw axis, 0 to 360 degrees on the pitch axis, and ?70 to +70 degrees on the roll axis. The yaw output is compensated for errors due to pitch and roll using embedded algorithms. Applications include fast solid state compassing, robotics, virtual reality, down-hole well drilling, and body position tracking for biomedical and multimedia applications.

  • Patent number: 6871413
Abstract: The novel miniaturized inclinometer for angle measurement with accurate measurement indicator is designed to monitor the angular motion of limbs. The device contains at least one inclinometer with signal conditioning electronics, including a microprocessor, placed within a miniature housing. A number of different sensors can be used and positioned in their housings so that their outputs vary as a function of their angle with respect to the gravity sector. The microprocessor controls a multiplexer, which controls the activities of the sensors; performs analog to digital conversions and measures the output curves from the sensor pairs to perform a conversion which results in a three hundred and sixty degree range with respect to gravity. Calibration data is stored in a read only memory and the microprocessor corrects variables to ensure accuracy and measures the difference in angle between the pairs of sensors.

  • Patent number: 6618174
Abstract: An optically made, high-efficiency in-line holographic mask (ILHM) for in-line holographic patterning of a workpiece, and apparatus and methods for performing same. The ILHM combines the imaging function of a lens with the transmission properties of a standard amplitude mask, obviating the need for expensive projection optics. The ILHM is either a type I (non-opaque) or type II (opaque) specialized object mask having one or more substantially transparent elements which can be phase-altering, scattering, refracting and/or diffracting. A method of creating a pattern on a workpiece includes the steps of disposing an ILHM, disposing a workpiece adjacent the ILHM and illuminating the ILHM to impart a pattern to the workpiece. In another method, the ILHM is used in combination with a lens. The ILHM is disposed such that a holographic real image is formed at or near the lens object plane, and the workpiece is disposed at or near the lens image plane.

  • Patent number: 6588282
Abstract: The novel peak strain detection linear displacement sensor system for smart structures is designed to provide monitoring of the strain in structures and reporting their strain histories. The system comprises the use of micro miniature, high resolution, passive peak strain detector. A displacement sensor, such as a differential variable reluctance transducer, is used and the sliding core of the unit is constrained so that it shows the maximum movement in one direction. Once positioned and attached, mechanical movement of the core will always occur in response to structural deformation. The system comprises attachment devices and a body clamp and core extender and compressor, a housing, a spring loaded collar, a sensor core and a measuring unit.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a candle packaging system that is comprised of a three part assembly. The first part is a clear box having a slightly frosted appearance. The candle packaging apparatus has a separate internal top and bottom cap units that are designed to be placed on top of and at the base of the candle in order to protect the top and bottom edges of the candle. The top and bottom caps are also constructed of a clear, frosted material. The third part of the construction is a printed insert that is designed to highlight the purpose and design of the candle itself. The box is designed to provide ease of access to allow the prospective buyer to smell the aroma of the candle and, at the same time, provide protection and keep the candle clean and fresh. A method of producing the candle packaging system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6529127
Abstract: A multidrop network of multichannel, addressable sensing modules (ASM's), to be embedded within a composite structure, remotely powered, and interrogated by a personal computer through a non-contacting inductive link. Each ASM contains a microprocessor with non-volatile memory, multiplexer, programmable gain and filter instrumentation amplifier, and sigma delta analog to digital converter (all housed in two thin surface mount packages). An embedded mothernode includes circuitry for power and data reception (into the structure), and data transmission (back out of the structure). The external interrogation system communicates into the network of ASM's by modulating the AC waveform that delivers power to the embedded electronics. Once addressed, each ASM powers up its programmable (gain & filter) sensing channels (3 full differential or 5 pseudo differential) and data conversion elements.

  • Patent number: 6083593
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a variably imaged document, such as a permit or license which is a multiple layered form or label construction that can be attached to a window or any translucent surface. The multiple layered form or label assembly is constructed of two separate material combinations laminated together. A variably imaged receptive pressure sensitive stock is used in one combination and a pressure sensitive plastic film stock is used in the other and the two combinations are laminated together to form the multiple layered construction using adhesives and patterns of release coatings. The assembly is die cut in a fashion that allows the removal of the center laminated portion that carries the variable information for the license or permit and is die cut in a manner that provides the adhering of the document to the inside of the window via the pressure sensitive adhesive on the exposed perimeter of the transparent plastic film.

  • Patent number: 6079349
Abstract: The canoe and boat seat incliner apparatus is designed to provide a paddler with an apparatus that will provide the ability to shift from a sitting position in a canoe or boat to a kneeling position in the canoe without shifting balance in the water craft and while maintaining a firm, solid and comfortable position on the seat in either position. The apparatus is comprised of a pivoting incliner unit that is attached to the hull section of the canoe or gunwale of a boat. The attachment unit provides a stable solid connection to the hull of the canoe or the boat. The incliner unit is also connected to the seat in the canoe or boat in such a manner as to allow the seat to pivot as the incliner unit does, which allows the paddler to move from the seated position to the kneeling position without losing his or her balance while making the transition.

  • Patent number: 6077629
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a holographic media that is composed of a mixture of a photosensitive substance such as a photopolymer and a porous rigid material such as an aerogel that provides a substructure to the composite material. This unique composition of matter can be utilized in a multitude of applications where a thick optically patterned wavefront modulating media is required, including as a holographic storage device. The composite material avoids the difficulties regarding shrinkage found in plain photopolymers. The rigid highly porous component is specially treated to receive the photosensitive material. This unshrinkable substructure has a plurality of very small, rigid pores that is essentially transparent at optical wavelengths and provides the matrix for the photopolymers. It provides holographic recording in both thin and thick formats without shrinkage and pattern distortion. The method of producing the composite holographic media is also disclosed.
