  • Patent number: 5556292
Abstract: A cable connector includes a plug for connecting a coaxial cable to an electronic device such as a television or video cassette recorder. The plug includes a sleeve that connects with a first grounding terminal of a receptacle. An outer diameter of the sleeve is dimensioned to provide a good unstressed interference fit with the first grounding terminal. The sleeve has slits in a portion to permit elastic deformation when connecting with a second grounding terminal having an inner diameter less than that of the first grounding terminal. These slits permit the sleeve to compress sufficiently to form an interference fit inside the second grounding terminal. When both the first grounding terminal of the receptacle and the sleeve of the plug are dimensioned for the PAL format, and the second grounding terminal is dimensioned for the SECAM format, the plug fits either grounding terminal.

  • Patent number: 5555467
Abstract: A camera with a data imprinting device has a plurality of in-line LEDs producing light focused by an optical system upon a photographic film at a first and a second position, corresponding to a full size format and a panorama size format, respectively. The focused light imprints data images upon the film at the first position are larger than data images imprinted at the second position. The optical system has first and second prisms, with integrated lenses, for reflecting and focusing the light upon the film at the first and second positions, respectively. A shutter plate is selectively positioned over apertures through which the light is focused, thus blocking the light and allowing only a selected imprint to be made upon the film. A vertical pattern of the data image is created by a controller selectively illuminating the in-line LEDs while a horizontal pattern is produced by the controller illuminating the LEDs in coordination with the movement of the film past the apertures.

  • Patent number: 5550538
Abstract: A navigation system mounted on a vehicle computes in advance an optimal route from a starting point to a destination. When the vehicle travels off the optimal route, the navigation system detects an off-route deviation. When an off-route deviation is detected, the system computes a restoration route from the vehicle's present position to a selected point on the optimal route and rapidly displays navigational information to guide the vehicle thereto. Thus there is no need for the system to compute a new optimal route from the present position to the destination, and there is no delay in supplying the driver with navigational information.

  • Patent number: 5549223
Abstract: The present invention provides a pump for pumping fluids, especially highly viscous fluids such as shampoo, from a main fluid container through a nozzle without unwanted dripping, plugging, or mess. A piston reciprocates in a pump chamber, creating positive and negative pressure alternately in the pump chamber. Positive pressure in the pump chamber initiates a discharge phase of operation, wherein the fluid in the pump chamber is forced from the pump chamber through a discharge valve. Negative pressure in the pump chamber causes both a back-suction phase and a suction phase of operation. Back-suction occurs in the pump chamber immediately following the discharge phase, drawing any fluid remaining in an exit passage back through the discharge valve into the pump chamber. The suction phase starts immediately after the discharge valve closes at the end of the back-suction phase.

  • Patent number: 5549040
Abstract: A food material heating mechanism includes at least an upper and a lower heating plate. Food material is placed on a food material tray which is then placed on the lower heating plate. The upper and lower heating plates are moved toward each other to cause an upper surface of the food material to make contact with a bottom surface of the upper heating plate for a heating process. Heating is enhanced by adding a layer of a far infrared radiation substance to surfaces of the heating plates and food material tray which make contact with the food material. The food material tray is preheated to a temperature that is substantially lower than a temperature of the upper heating plate, whereby during the heating process, a soft surface is produced by contact of the food material with the food material tray, and a crusty surface is produced by contact with the upper heating plate. A fluororesin, such as TEFLON, can be added to the surfaces which come into contact with the food material to prevent sticking.

  • Patent number: 5542855
Abstract: A zero insertion force connector, typically used for connecting a flexible printed circuit (FPC) or a flexible flat cable (FFC) to a printed circuit board, is made up of an insertion aperture formed on one side of a housing, a pressure plate insertion aperture formed on a different side of the housing, a pressure plate, and a sigmoid contact member. When the pressure plate is inserted into the pressure plate insertion aperture, a finger piece of the sigmoid contact member resiliently changes position, and a tongue piece of the sigmoid contact member makes electrical contact with an inserted FPC or FFC. Since the tongue piece of the sigmoid contact member is arranged so that the tongue piece does not come into contact with the FPC or FFC unless the pressure plate is inserted, there is no requirement to force the FPC or FFC into the insertion aperture.

  • Patent number: 5540554
Abstract: A controller regulates a hydraulic pump for hydraulic equipment to allow long-term use of environmentally safe hydraulic fluids. This is accomplished by limiting the hydraulic pump power output to a level established to prevent the operating temperature from exceeding a specified level. A manual mode for switching between power curves permits alternate use of hydraulic fluids having different maximum operating temperatures. An automatic mode detects the type of hydraulic fluid and automatically selects and applies a suitable power mode curve to limit the maximum operating temperature to a value suitable for the detected type of fluid.

  • Patent number: 5536105
Abstract: A device for tight fixing a rotary body such as a gear and a pulley, to a rotary shaft such as a motor shaft and a transmitting shaft, provides a slippage between the rotary body and the rotary shaft when an over-load occurs to the rotary body. A groove portion is formed either at the inner surface of a mounting hole in the center of the rotary body or at the outer surface of the rotary shaft, in which a pair of key members having a tapered contact surface are arranged in the longitudinal direction of the rotary shaft. A clamping bolt going through one of key members is screwed into the other key member, and pressed to both key members. Due to the pressure from the clamping bolt, each key member is displaced outward as guided by the tapered surface. One of key members makes a contact with the inner surface of the mounting hole or rotary body, and at the same time, the other begins to press the outer surface of the rotary shaft, respectively.

  • Patent number: 5533369
Abstract: A safety lock and key includes a cylindrical stator and rotor having conventional spring-loaded moving rotor pins and moving stator pins. A first rotor pin/stator pin combination is at substantially 45 degrees to a first face of the key while a second rotor pin/stator pin combination is substantially perpendicular to a second face of the key on the opposite side. The centerlines of the rotor pin/stator pin combinations pass through the center of rotation of the rotor. A housing in the key contains a moving element and emerges from the first face of the key inclined at the same angle as the first rotor pin/stator pin combination. The housing also emerges from the second face of the key through a tapered bore that receives the second rotor pin/stator pin combination. A tapered head of the second rotor pin engages a rear portion of the moving element in the housing, thus engaging the moving element with the first rotor pin/stator pin combination.

  • Patent number: 5534843
Abstract: An insulating glass layer covers the surface of a thermistor element except at the two end surfaces. The insulating glass layer is partially or fully composed of crystallized glass. A terminal electrode is integrally formed on both end surfaces. The terminal electrodes include a baked-on electrode layer formed from a conductive paste. Layers of nickel and tin or lead/tin are plated onto the baked-on electrode. The insulating glass layer enhances shape-maintainability of the insulating glass layer and the baked-on electrodes, provides a smoother glass surface, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing thermistor, prevents resistance variance due to plating of the baked-on electrodes and provides a strong anti-breaking strength thermistor. The coefficient of thermal expansion of the glass layer is less than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the thermistor element. This difference in coefficients of thermal expansion tends to help the thermistor element resist stress breakage.
