  • Patent number: 5570748
Abstract: A drill bit (10) for drilling geophysical exploratory holes using a non-rotating drill approach is disclosed. The bit (10) includes a tubular body (12) threaded at one end for engagement with a pipe stem. The elements (16a -b) of a divided conical tip (14) are hinged to a second end (20) of the bit body (12). The wall thickness of the bit body (12) gradually increases from the first end (18) to the second end (20) to create, when the divided elements (16a-b) of the tip are closed, a generally diamond-shaped cross section facilitating burrowing when forced into the soil. An O-ring (36) installed in a groove (34) about the outer circumference of the tip (14) biases divided elements (16a-b) closed until a selected tool is loaded through the interior of the bit body (12), whereupon the divided elements (16a-b) are forced to rotate radially outward. The bit (10) can then be raised and removed from the borehole as desired.

  • Patent number: 5549338
Abstract: A base plate with an extension which defines a pair of notched seats is secured to the frame of a pivoting door in the gap between the frame and the door. A stop plate, made from a disk of stiff metal plate having an aperture of predetermined shape and with three bent sections that form a hand grip, is initially placed over the extension on the base plate while the door is closed. The stop plate aperture allows the stop plate to be displaced horizontally and downwardly until the section of stop plate defining the opposite end of the aperture lies within the upper notched seat and rests on the base plate. The stop plate confronts the face plane of the door; the door is prevented from opening beyond the door frame by the combination of the stop plate and the base plate.

  • Patent number: 5546398
Abstract: A signal intercept system intercepts an international calling frame, modifies a specific set of bits and then retransmits the frame in real time. The signal intercept system includes a communications processor and a signalling link interface. In one arrangement, the signalling link interface includes two intercept and transmit connectors and a coprocessor connector. In one arrangement, the communications processor includes a computer and a communications coprocessor. The computer maintains a data base with tables of such data as invalid calling card numbers. A computer program initializes and starts the communications coprocessor which handles high speed signal capture, manipulation and high speed signal retransmission. The communications coprocessor also interacts with the computer's data base to alter table parameters.

  • Patent number: 5546469
Abstract: A loudspeaker is designed for mounting on a wall and which uses the wall to help generate sound from electrical signals supplied by an amplifier. The magnetic assembly consists of three disk shaped layers, the outer layers being a magnet and a ferromagnetic pole plate, the layers being separated by a spacer made of resilient material. The magnet and spacer both have roughly identical holes which are coaxially aligned. A center pole, on which a voice coil is wound, extends from the pole plate through the hole in the spacer and partially into the hole in the magnet. A frame serves to hold the magnetic assembly and press the magnet against the wall during operation. Electrical signals fed to the voice coil cause the magnet to vibrate against the wall, exciting the wall to create sound energy.

  • Patent number: 5542569
Abstract: A stack of condiment packages is loaded into a tube, and the tube is inserted into a receiver. The first package rests on a support platform, and the receiver holds the tube at a position to secure all of the packages above the first. A push block on the end of a piston rod pushes the first package out from under the tube, and then retracts to allow the stack to fall to the support platform.

  • Patent number: 5540295
Abstract: A vibrator yoke assembly (Y) for drill stems is moveably mounted on a drilling rig (R). A guide rail (10) is mounted to a support section (22) of the drill rig (R). Traveling along the guide rail (10) along the direction of travel for the drill string while boring the hole is a carriage (28) supporting the yoke assembly (Y). Activation of a motor moves the carriage (28) along the guide rail (10) as desired by the operator. Affixed to the carriage (28) above the upper end (12u) of the upper section (12) of the drill string (14) is the yoke assembly (Y). The yoke assembly (Y) has an upper hydraulic motor (40) coupled to an upper end (42) of a quill body (44). The quill body extends through the yoke assembly (Y) and a lower end (48) of the quill body engages the upper pipe end (12u). A pair of vibrators (52a and 52b) are attached to the yoke assembly (Y).

  • Patent number: 5536160
Abstract: A solidifying liquid is placed into a mold having sides and a planar bottom. A plurality of separators are attached to the bottom of a support grid. The support grid is then placed onto the mold, with positioning projections extending through holes in the support grid. The liquid is then allowed to set, forming a work surface having a flat top surface and support ribs on its bottom surface.

  • Patent number: 5517774
Abstract: A hydraulic motor is mounted on top of a hydraulic cylinder barrel. The barrel houses a drive shaft that is rotated by the motor. A male hex drive shaft, attached to the drive shaft, extends downward through the barrel. A piston is mounted within the barrel and moves linearly along the male hex drive shaft. Attached to the piston is a piston rod having an upper portion, a center portion, and a lower portion. The center portion defines a rod chamber for accommodating the male hex drive shaft as the piston and the piston rod move upward. The upper portion has a hexagonal inner surface for rotation and sliding movement along the male hex drive shaft. A passage through the center portion allows fluid to flow between the rod chamber and the upper chamber of the cylinder barrel.

  • Patent number: 5501176
Abstract: A bracket stands upright on a base attached to the bracket with a hinge, the hinge being biased by a spring to hold the bracket upright and at right angles to the base. The bracket has horizontal slots located at intervals along its vertical length. A tray, containing holes designed to hold a pair of bowls, is attached to the bracket by a hinge. One of the hinge leaves connects to the tray. The free hinge leaf terminates in a flange adapted to fit in one of the horizontal slots on the bracket to support and hold the hinge and tray on the bracket. The height of the tray may be adjusted by placing the free hinge leaf into different slots. The hinge is configured to prevent motion of the tray downward below a horizontal position. The hinges allow the structure to be folded flat to allow storage in a narrow space when the structure is not in use.
