    Abstract: Speech encoders and methods of speech encoding are disclosed that encode inactive frames at different rates. Apparatus and methods for processing an encoded speech signal are disclosed that calculate a decoded frame based on a description of a spectral envelope over a first frequency band and the description of a spectral envelope over a second frequency band, in which the description for the first frequency band is based on information from a corresponding encoded frame and the description for the second frequency band is based on information from at least one preceding encoded frame. Calculation of the decoded frame may also be based on a description of temporal information for the second frequency band that is based on information from at least one preceding encoded frame.

    Abstract: In general this disclosure describes techniques for configuring an image sensor of an image capture device based on motion within the scene of interest. In particular, the image capture device analyzes motion between two or more images of the same scene of interest and adjusts the configuration parameters, e.g., gain and/or exposure time, of the image sensor based on the amount of motion within the scene of interest. For example, the image capture device may configure the image sensor with a large gain and a short exposure time when the scene includes a relatively large amount of motion, thus reducing the blur caused by the large amount of motion. Conversely, the image capture device may configure the image sensor with a small gain and a long exposure time when the scene includes relatively little or no motion, thus reducing the noise caused by large gains.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for achieving an arbitrary average data rate for a variable rate coder. One method includes selecting a set (e.g., a pair) of initial composite rates surrounding the arbitrary average data rate. A reallocation fraction is then calculated based on the initial composite rates. The reallocation fraction is used to reassign a number of frames from one component rate of an initial composite rate to another in order to achieve the arbitrary average data rate. Such a method may be configured such that selecting an initial composite rate on one side of (e.g., less than) the arbitrary average data rate implicitly selects the initial composite rate on the other side of the arbitrary average data rate.

    Abstract: Techniques are described of efficiently identifying sets of audio parameters to be applied during a time frame. For example, a list of indicators may be generated. Each of the indicators in the list may indicate a Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) voice present in a MIDI frame. Furthermore, in generating the list, the indicators in the list may be restricted to those indicators that indicate the most acoustically significant MIDI voices in the MIDI frame. After the list is generated, a digital waveform may be generated for each of MIDI voices indicated by an indicator in the list. A combination of the waveforms of each MIDI voice may constitute an overall waveform for the MIDI frame.

    Abstract: A low-cost diversity receiver includes two receiver units for a primary path and a secondary/diversity path. The first receiver unit is compliant with, for example, IS-98D requirements. The second receiver unit is not fully compliant with the IS-98D requirements (e.g., may meet requirements for sensitivity but not for out-of-band rejection). The second receiver unit is wideband and designed with lower power consumption, less area, and lower cost than the first receiver unit. For a multi-antenna receiver, the two receiver units are used to simultaneously process two received signals from two antennas. For a single-antenna receiver, one of the two receiver units is used to process a received signal from one antenna. For a dual-band design, each receiver unit can operate at two frequency bands. Narrowband circuit blocks are used for the first receiver unit, and wideband circuit blocks are used for the second receiver unit.

    Abstract: A peristaltic depositing machine includes a hopper to store viscous material. A flexibly deformable tubing section is connected to the hopper for receiving the viscous material. A pair of rollers cooperate to compress tubing section and thereafter move forwardly along the tubing section such that the viscous material is forwardly propagated. A manifold is connected between the hopper and the tubing section to transmit the viscous material there between. A flow control unit is connected to a portion of the tubing section forward of the pair of rollers. The flow control unit alternately constricts and unconstricts the portion of the tubing section in synchronism with the forward movement by the pair of rollers. A nozzle is connected to an output end of said tubing section to shape the viscous material upon output. A carriage is also connected to an output end of the tubing section and moves about a predetermined travel path to thereby direct an output location of the viscous material.

    Abstract: The present invention solves a possible contributing cause of Sudden Infant Death syndrome. A body support pad having a support portion and a pillow portion is disclosed. The support portion is connected to the pillow portion. The pillow portion provides ventilation to the infant. The pillow portion has a thin outer sheet permeable to the passage of air which keeps the head of the infant in healthy repose. The interior of the pillow is subdivided into an upper portion containing a porous foam material and a lower portion containing an air pocket. An air pump supplies air to the air pocket to thus supply air to the nose and mouth of the infant.
