  • Patent number: 6954278
Abstract: A method of printing on a print medium with a printer which is in communication with a host computer includes the steps of providing the host computer with a print job to be printed by the printer, identifying a data format associated with the print job, determining an operating system stored in the printer, comparing the data format with the printer operating system, downloading an operating system which corresponds to the data format from the host computer to the printer if the printer operating system does not correspond to the data format, transmitting print data associated with the print job from the host computer to the printer, and printing on the print medium with the printer using the print data.

  • Patent number: 6526753
Abstract: An exhaust gas regenerator/particulate capture system is provided with a first particulate trap and a second particulate trap. A regenerator valve is provided having a valve member, an EGR inlet port, and a purge air outlet port. The valve member is operable between a first position and a second position. When the valve member is in the first position, the EGR inlet port is connected in fluid communication with the first particulate trap and the purge air outlet port is connected in fluid communication with the second particulate trap. When the valve member is in the second position, the EGR inlet port is connected in fluid communication with the second particulate trap and the purge air outlet port is connected in fluid communication with the first particulate trap.

  • Patent number: 6463895
Abstract: A free piston internal combustion engine includes a housing with a combustion cylinder and a hydraulic cylinder. A piston includes a piston head reciprocally disposed within the combustion cylinder and movable during a compression stroke to a top dead center position and during a return stroke to a BDC position. A plunger head is reciprocally disposed within the hydraulic cylinder. A plunger rod interconnects and is rigidly affixed to each of the piston head and the plunger head. The plunger head and the hydraulic cylinder define a variable volume pressure chamber on a side of the plunger head generally opposite the plunger rod.

  • Patent number: 6460519
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, particularly suitable for a motor vehicle, is provided with a plurality of combustion cylinders, at least a first exhaust manifold and a second exhaust manifold and at least one intake manifold. Each exhaust manifold is coupled with a plurality of the combustion cylinders. Each intake manifold is coupled with a plurality of the combustion cylinders. A first turbocharger includes a first turbine having at least one inlet and an outlet, and a first compressor having an inlet and an outlet. The at least one first turbine inlet is a fixed geometry inlet fluidly coupled with the first exhaust manifold. A second turbocharger includes a second turbine having an inlet and an outlet, and a second compressor having an inlet and an outlet. The second turbine inlet is a fixed geometry inlet fluidly coupled with the second exhaust manifold. The first compressor outlet is fluidly coupled with the second compressor inlet.

  • Patent number: 6460333
Abstract: A hydraulic pressure transformer has a port block which is attached to an end cap. The end cap includes a plurality of ports opening at an end face and at least one actuation port opening at or near a peripheral surface. A barrel which is rotatable about an axis includes a second end face and a plurality of cylinders having respective cylinder ports which open at the second end face. A port block disposed between the first end face and the second end face is rotatable about an axis and has a first face surface, a second face surface and a plurality of ports extending between the first face surface and the second face surface. The port block includes a radial periphery and at least one vane extending radially outward from the radial periphery to a position adjacent the peripheral surface of the opening.

  • Patent number: 6450154
Abstract: An engine particularly suitable for homogeneous charge compression ignition operation. A piezoelectric oscillator is provided in a combustion chamber of the engine and initiates ultrasonic pressure waves to promote the breakup of fuel droplets. The piezoelectric oscillator can be mounted on a crown of a piston, or on a cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 6105541
Abstract: A free piston internal combustion engine includes a housing with a combustion cylinder and a compression cylinder. A fluid inlet port is disposed in communication with the compression cylinder for transporting a pressurized fluid into the compression cylinder. A piston includes a piston head reciprocally disposed within the combustion cylinder, a compression head reciprocally disposed within the compression cylinder, and a plunger rod attached to each of and interconnecting the piston head and the compression head. The compression head includes a plurality of radially extending vanes which are positioned to be at least intermittently disposed in association with the fluid inlet port, whereby pressurized fluid which is transported into the compression cylinder from the fluid inlet port causes the piston to rotate.

  • Patent number: 6092455
Abstract: A hydraulic pressure transformer for the conversion of an input hydraulic power to an output hydraulic power includes a housing with a generally planar face surface and a plurality of ports opening at the face surface. A barrel which is rotatable about an axis includes a generally spherical end face and a plurality of cylinders opening at the end face. A port block interposed between the barrel and the housing is rotatable about the axis. The port block has a first face surface, a second face surface and a plurality of ports extending between the first face surface and the second face surface. The ports selectively fluidly interconnect the plurality of cylinders in the barrel with the plurality of ports in the housing. The first face surface is generally spherical and abuts the end face of the barrel. The second face surface is generally planar and abuts the face surface of the housing.
