  • Patent number: 6970173
Abstract: A system and method is provided for supporting a multiple display configuration through a single connected display device. The present disclosure allows a system desktop to be expanded across multiple virtual displays without a need for extra hardware to support multiple display devices. A display driver partitions a frame buffer of a video card into portions. Each portion is used to support a different virtual display. The display driver reports a number of virtual displays to an operating system and provides pointers to addresses associated with the portions of the frame buffer. The operating system treats each frame buffer portion as a separate frame buffer and stores video data for each virtual display in an associated frame buffer portion. The display driver selects a virtual display from a set of multiple virtual displays and routes video data from the frame buffer portion associated with the selected display for output on a connected display device.

  • Patent number: 6970978
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for providing a pre-fetch memory controller in a computer system that comprises a plurality of master agents. The memory controller comprises a bus interface, a memory interface and a plurality of pre-fetch queues. In one embodiment each pre-fetch queue is assigned to a master agent. In an alternate embodiment the pre-fetch queues are dynamically assigned to master agents. The bus interface services memory read requests, memory write requests, and pre-fetch requests. Data may be pre-fetched from main memory and stored in the pre-fetch queues. This reduces the latency for memory read requests and improves the efficiency of the memory interface with the main memory.

  • Patent number: 6959348
Abstract: A system and a method for transcoding multiple media channels is disclosed herein. The system includes a first processor to parse a media data stream having one or more media data channels and a vector processor to decompress, scale, and then compress the parsed media channel. A parsed media data channel, in one embodiment, is accessed using a bit manipulator and packetized into decoder instruction packets and transmitted to the vector processor using a sequencer. The vector processor decompresses the decoder instruction packets, scales a macroblock generated from the packets, and then compresses the scaled macroblock. As a result, the scaled and compressed output has less data associated with the media channel, allowing for faster and/or more efficient storage or transmission. A reduced sized scale buffer is associated with another disclosed embodiment.

  • Patent number: 6957329
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for encrypting data from a plurality of multimedia devices. A driver initiates authentication for the plurality of multimedia applications. The driver assigns a key registers to each of the applications, based on available key registers. The applications use generated encryption key values to send data to be decrypted by their assigned key registers. The driver notifies video processing hardware of encryption seed keys to determine the generated encryption key values and hardware stores the value of corresponding decryption keys the assigned key registers. Each register can be used to exclusively decrypt data from an application of the plurality of applications. The driver directs the encrypted data from the applications to the video processing hardware. The video processing hardware decrypts the data and processes it into image data accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6952236
Abstract: A system and method for converting text data having a Teletext format to text data having an Electronics Industries Associations-608 (EIA-608) format are illustrated herein. A video stream with embedded text data having a Teletext format is received by a dual mode text processing system. The dual mode text processing system, in one embodiment, extracts the text data and filters the text data to identify a desired portion using an identifier, such as a page identifier or number. The desired portion (or a copy thereof), once identified, is sent to a line break parser. The line break parser, in one embodiment, eliminates some or all of any unnecessary or unintended line breaks, as well as some or all of any extra space characters, to generate a character stream. The character stream, in one embodiment, is then converted into a EIA-608 format by a line convertor, wherein the character stream is parsed into one or more subtitle lines with a maximum character length.

  • Patent number: 6941255
Abstract: A method for simulating a physical system using finite element techniques, wherein two or more distinct models corresponding to distinct regions within the modeled system are solved, each with a corresponding evaluator. Nodes which lie on the boundaries between the models may have different values corresponding to the different models. When a particular model is solved, the evaluator for that model is used to obtain the appropriate values for each of these common nodes. In one embodiment, a first model is defined, then a region corresponding to a particular feature within the system is carved out of it. A finite element model corresponding to the feature is then inserted into the region. The finite elements may be adapted to share nodes on the boundaries between them.

  • Patent number: 6927778
Abstract: A system for generating and applying alpha values is discussed. Different sets of alpha values are generated and stored for each color component of a set of image data associated with a foreground object. A graphics-processing engine processes the foreground object with respect to a background object to be displayed in the same location. Red components of the foreground object are blended with red components of the background object using red-specific alpha values. Blue components of the foreground object are blended with blue components of the background object using blue-specific alpha values and green components of the foreground object are blended with green components of the background object using green-specific alpha values.

  • Patent number: 6927722
Abstract: A series capacitive component for use in signal processing applications such as analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, switched capacitor circuits and the like that require matched capacitors is presented. A series capacitive component consists of multiple capacitors connected in series. By utilizing series capacitive components in integrated circuits, significantly lower loads are provided for the same resulting capacitor mismatch range as previous solutions. Additionally, for the same load and noise, using series capacitive components provides a substantially reduced match over previous solutions. Thus a circuit designer has more flexibility when making tradeoffs between circuit area and capacitor mismatch and therefore manufacturing yields.

  • Patent number: 6922079
Abstract: A drive controller monitors a dynamic condition to determine when a transmission line impedance is to vary. In one embodiment, a specific bit pattern associated with a set of data lines can be monitored by the drive controller. Based upon the dynamic condition, the drive controller will determine whether or not the drive strengths of the output drivers associated with the data lines are to be adjusted. The variance in line is compensated for by independently increasing or decreasing drive strengths at the individual output nodes of the drivers.
