Abstract: A fly line leader made from a single length of monofilament line that is folded upon itself to provide at least four strand portions that are twisted together. The leader has a loop at each of opposite ends thereof provided by the single length of monofilament line with the result of no enlargement at the transition from the main portion of the leader to the loop. The monofilament line preferably is nylon with a cross-sectional diameter in the range of 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm. A simple twister mechanism is described whereby the fisherman can make his own leader matched to his own preferences by selection of line stiffness, line diameter, and degree of twisting.
Abstract: A sawmill that is a compact integrated unit of a multiplicity of components all mounted on a common frame for performing different functions to produce pieces of lumber from a log. Logs can be processed that have a minimum diameter of approximately 2" and a minimum length of approximately 42" with the overall length of the mill being approximately 17'. There are a number of power driven feed and guide rolls that propel a log endwise along a fixed path. The processing components include first and second pairs of chipper canter units with novel chipper heads, a pair of rabbet units in which each has a pair of cutter heads on concentric telescopic shafts and power driven rolls for off-feeding pieces of lumber of differing widths. The log feed speed and/or chipper head speed can be varied to provide chips of selected different lengths. Positioning of the processing units is controlled by a programmed processor unit.

Abstract: A plastic dome lid for a drinking cup is disclosed which has the capability of functioning as a complete closure lid for the cup and as a drink through lid employing a recloseable flip-open lid segment for this purpose. The dome lid is provided with a lower section that has a downwardly facing annular channel for receiving and engaging the rim of the cup and an upper section which includes a raised C-shaped dome. An intermediate section is provided between the upper and lower sections forming a central area located within and depressed relative to the C-shaped dome. A transverse wall extends from one leg to the other leg within the bite of the C-shaped dome and upwardly from the lower section to a location above the central area and below the upper sections so as to define a raised rib across the bite. A recloseable flip-open segment forms part of the lower section and extends inwardly from a location on the annular channel to a hinge line on the bottom section.
Abstract: A golf swing practice device is disclosed and which comprises a carrier member which is removably attached to the shaft of a golf club and which is preferably attached to a lower portion of the hand grip on the golf club. Two spaced apart light sources are mounted on the carrier so as to emit two discrete and parallel beams of light which extend in a direction towards the head of the club and which lie in a plane which bisects a face of the club head and which is also substantially perpendicular to the club face. The light tracings on the ground from the two beams of light on the ground and relevant to a target line which is also on the ground, inform the golfer if the practice golf swing relative to an imaginary golf ball is on or off line, square to the ball or being hit in a toe-in or toe-out condition.
Abstract: An outdoor ground lighting system that includes one or more low voltage lamp units, provided from a step down transformer connectable to a high voltage AC power supply and an on/off timer operative to turn the lamps on for a selected time period during hours of darkness. Added to this known system is a secondary switching system that includes a solenoid operated switch connected to bypass the timer and a detector to detect the presence of a person or the like in the field of view of the detector. The detector provides an output signal in response to detecting the presence of someone and the solenoid switch is actuated by such signal to switch on the lamps when the timer is in the off cycle. The secondary switching system enhances the garden lighting system by providing a security lighting system when the timer is in an off mode.
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel ceramic mass or material and the use of same in the building materials industry for manufacturing bricks, ceramic stones, roofing tiles, large block and the like. A formable ceramic mass is prepared by mixing clay, a filler such as sand, calcium hydroxide, which can be in the form of slaked lime, and an aqueous solution of solidification activating agent. The formable mass is then shaped, e.g. by plastic moulding into uncured building elements which are in turn subjected to heat treatment, including a preliminary drying, a thermal treatment in a saturated vapour atmosphere, and a subsequent further heating and drying with a gradual lowering of moisture content. The preliminary drying is carried out at a temperature of 60.degree.-70.degree. C. to reduce the moisture content to 12-14%. The thermal treatment is performed at a temperature of 95.degree.-100.degree. C.
Abstract: A novel electrical lamp fixture of the type having a lamp housing, a housing axis, a housing sidewall co-axial with the housing axis and a lamp receiving socket supported interiorly of the housing by a housing support means is disclosed and is also of the type which has an exterior support for the housing and which is pivotally connected to the housing. By extending this pivot connection through an elongate slot provided in the co-axial sidewall of the housing, it is possible to adjust the relative angular positioning of the housing to its support and simultaneously adjust the location of the lamp receiving socket along a length of the housing axis in a one-step operation. Locating the lamp receiving socket in different axial positions within the housing is desired when light bulbs of different axial lengths are employed in the same lamp receiving housing.
Abstract: A spacer for positioning between the underside of a water catchment basin, such as a bathtub or shower pan is disclosed. The upper surface of the spacer is contoured so as to receivingly engage the underside of the basin and has a thickness dimension so as to maintain the underside of the basin a fixed distance above a horizontal plane, such as a floor. The spacer may be affixed to the underside of the basin at the time of construction or alternatively, separately suppled for field use at the time the basin is installed. If the perimeter of the spacer corresponds to the smallest interior dimension of the basin, identical basins with identical spacers attached thereto can be stacked one on top of the other for shipping purposes. The spacer can also be provided with channel or cavity sections which facilitate the placement therein of air or water supply conduit for the basin, if desired.
Abstract: A novel method of producing a wood composite treated with a soluble boron compound is disclosed. Either a phenol-formaldehyde resole or novolac type resin can be used as the binder for a wood furnish. The wood furnish is surface treated with either the resole type resin or novolac resin together with a water soluble boron compound whereafter the surface treated wood furnish is formed into a mat and then consolidated in a press. When novolac is used as the resin, the consolidation takes place under sufficient pressure, heat and time in order to cure the novolac type resin and to form the wood composite. Optionally, the curing of the novolac resin can be promoted by injecting the compressed mat with steam, rather than by means of heated press platens. However, if a resole type resin is employed as the binder, while in its consolidated condition, pressurized steam is injected into the consolidated mat for a time sufficient to cure the binder and form the composite.
