Abstract: The invention provides systems and methods for the deposition of an improved diamond-like carbon material, particularly for the production of magnetic recording media. The diamond-like carbon material of the present invention is highly tetrahedral, that is, it features a large number of the sp3 carbon-carbon bonds which are found within a diamond crystal lattice. The material is also amorphous, providing a combination of short-range order with long-range disorder, and can be deposited as films which are ultrasmooth and continuous at thicknesses substantially lower than known amorphous carbon coating materials. The carbon protective coatings of the present invention will often be hydrogenated. In a preferred method for depositing of these materials, capacitive coupling forms a highly uniform, selectively energized stream of ions from a dense, inductively ionized plasma.

Abstract: In an igniter which is ignited by rotation of an actuator, ignition of the igniter is disabled by a simple rotation of the actuator in the initial state or in the non-used state and the ignition lock can be released in a series of igniting actions without preventing the automatic return of the igniter to the locked state, while ensuring excellent operability of the igniter. The igniter is provided with an actuator mechanism (5) for carrying out an igniting operation on a valve mechanism (7) for controlling supply of gas from a reservoir portion (2) to a gas nozzle (9) in an end portion of a rod-like portion (4) and an ignition mechanism (8). The actuator mechanism (5) comprises a rotatable actuator (51), a fulcrum member (52) about which the actuator is rotated, and an interlocking member (53) which operates a piezoelectric unit (8).
Abstract: A ventilated adjustable cap for wearing on a user's head, the cap having a crown and a perimeter band surrounding a circumferential edge of the crown. The perimeter band has a forehead offset, which projects from the remainder of the perimeter band such that the forehead offset generally does not contact the user's forehead. The forehead offset promotes evaporative cooling of the user's head by permitting ambient air to pass between the user's head and the ventilated adjustable cap. The cooling may be further aided by a perforated air passage at the front side of the crown and by one or more water-retentive members. The cap may further have a torsion spring, an elastic band, or both to span at least one edge gap in the circumferential edge of the crown, opposing widening of the edge gap in the direction of the circumferential edge and help to fit the cap snugly on the user's head.
Abstract: A composition for treating cancer cells and a preparation method therefor are provided. The novel flavonoid compounds are obtained from natural plants, and more particularly the compounds have a cytotoxicity on cancer cells.
Abstract: A cable providing noise rejection in a wide frequency range. A cable has an inner section, an outer section and a jacket. The inner section may contain one or more core conductors that are surrounded by a common insulation, which is surrounded by a shield. The outer section contains one or more pairs of outer conductors that are positioned around the inner section. In each pair of outer conductors, the outer conductors are positioned 180° from each other. The outer conductors may be located parallel to the central axis of the inner section. In another embodiment of the present invention, the outer conductors spirally wind around the inner section while substantially maintaining their relative positions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for mounting auxiliary eyeglasses on conventional eyeglasses in which magnets are attached to temple extensions or temples on the conventional eyeglasses to mate with magnets mounted in appendages of the auxiliary eyeglasses. The magnets on the auxiliary eyeglasses engages the magnets on the conventional eyeglasses from below only, so as to hold the auxiliary frames in place solely by magnetic attractive force. The magnets may be recessed in sockets formed on one side while the magnets may extend out of the sockets on the other side. A wide variety of magnet shapes and configurations are possible.
Abstract: Eyewear is provided having lenses that are removably secured to an eyewear platform. The eyewear platform has a bridge portion, a pair of temple extensions and at least one socket extending therefrom with a first mating surface accessible on an upper side of the platform and a second mating surface accessible on a lower side of the platform. The eyewear further includes a pair of primary lenses with at least one third mating surface that is removably secured to the first mating surface by magnetic attraction. The eyewear still further includes a pair of auxiliary lenses with at least one fourth mating surface that is removably secured to the second mating surface by magnetic attraction. The eyewear further includes a reflective coating on a portion of a surface of either the primary or auxiliary lenses to facilitate rearward view of a wearer.
Abstract: A main valve reduces an unregulated pressure of a high-pressure gas to a regulated pressure by being interlocked with a diaphragm, which receives the regulated pressure within a pressure regulating chamber and is displaced. A subsidiary valve is interlocked with the main valve through a plunger and reduces the unregulated pressure of the high-pressure gas to the regulated pressure. The subsidiary valve is located such that the force, which accompanies a pressure loss occurring at the subsidiary valve and which the subsidiary valve receives, cancels the force, which accompanies the pressure loss occurring at the main valve and acts upon the plunger. An adjustor adjusts a pressure loss value occurring at the subsidiary valve so as to be equal to the pressure loss value occurring at the main valve.
