  • Patent number: 4917978
Abstract: The method of electrophotographically manufacturing a luminescent screen assembly on a substrate of a CRT, according to the present invention, includes the steps of coating the substrate with a conductive layer and overcoating the conductive layer with a photoconductive layer, establishing an electrostatic charge on the photoconductive layer, and exposing selected areas of the photoconductive layer to visible light to affect the charge thereon. Then, the selected areas of the photoconductive layer are developed with triboelectrically charged, dry-powdered, surface-treated screen structure materials. The improved process increases the adherence of the surface-treated materials to the photoconductive layer by contacting the surface-treated materials with a solvent to render the photoconductive layer and the materials tacky.

  • Patent number: 4345812
Abstract: An electron tube base comprises a cup-like housing and a wafer flange extending radially outwardly from an open end of the housing. The base is mounted over the stem of an electron tube with the stem's exhaust tubulation disposed in the housing in a close fit and the stem's lead-in conductors extending through apertures in the flange. The flange has a dielectric-receiving recess around one of the conductors and the internal surface of the housing wall has a pair of open longitudinal channels along which the dielectric material can be force-flowed into the recess from the opposite end of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4344015
Abstract: A cathode ray tube comprises an envelope having a funnel portion with an electrical terminal extending through a wall surface thereof. A faceplate is sealed to the funnel portion and a screen contact assembly provides electrical contact between the electrical terminal and an aluminum coating on an inside surface of the faceplate. The screen contact assembly includes a conductive strip attached at one end to the electrical terminal. At the other end of the strip and attached thereto is a relatively flexible first contact member which is in pressured electrical contact with the aluminum layer on the faceplate. Disposed between the flexible first contact member and the aluminum layer on the faceplate is an oxidized, silver plated NICHROME foil member of high electrical conductivity. Transverse support and lateral stability is provided by a relatively flexible second contact member attached to and forming a part of the screen contact assembly.

  • Patent number: 4234825
Abstract: A system for controlling the emission of a device having a sense electrode for sensing a measure of an emission species from a source within the device. The sensed measure of the emission species is converted to a control signal. The output of the source is modified in response to the control signal by varying the time during which the source emits the emission species.

  • Patent number: 4234815
Abstract: An evacuated envelope includes substantially parallel front and back walls with a cathodoluminescent screen on the front wall. Within the envelope, in spaced relation to the back wall and substantially parallel to the screen, it is an electron beam guide comprising a pair of spaced apart, elongated guide grids having a plurality of apertures therethrough. At one end of the beam guide is an electron beam generating and directing means which directs at least one beam of electrons between the guide grids. A shielding member is disposed between the screen and the beam guide adjacent to the electron beam generating means.

  • Patent number: 4217519
Abstract: In a display device having an evacuated envelope, an electron beam guide and an electron generating means for generating beams of electrons, a modulator structure on which is disposed a plurality of control electrodes may be formed by interconnecting selected ones of the control electrodes which operate at a common potential. This interconnected electrode structure decreases the number of control electrodes which extend from the evacuated envelope. The electron generating means is shielded from the interconnected electrode structure to prevent perturbation of the generated electron beams.

  • Patent number: 4199705
Abstract: In a display device a modulator structure may be formed by disposing on a surface of the back wall a plurality of first control electrodes. A modulator member having a smoothly continuous surface has disposed thereon a plurality of second control electrodes. The surfaces of the back wall and the top member having the electrodes thereon are joined together to form opposing pairs of control electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4199702
Abstract: An ion feedback electron multiplier has an envelope containing an ionizable gas. Within the envelope is a chain of multiplier dynodes divided into two planar groups spaced from and parallel to one another. At one end of the multiplier chain is an electron source capable of emitting electrons upon ion bombardment. An electron lens which is between the multiplier chain and the electron source, focuses the electrons from the source onto one of the dynodes of the multiplier.
