  • Patent number: 7185284
Abstract: A wireless handheld device (10) includes a display (16), a processing device (12), and memory (14) that contains instructions executable by the processing device to indicate to a user that an image (302) on a web page has a hyperlink associated with it. The processing device receives (200) a web page, such as web page source information (24) from a web browser application (18), and scans (202) the received web page to detect whether an image within the web page has a hyperlink associated therewith. If a hyperlink is detected, the processing device generates (206) text (26) for the image to indicate that the image has an associated hyperlink. The processing device displays the newly generated text on the display together with the web page to visually indicate that the image in the web page has an associated hyperlink.

  • Patent number: 7174563
Abstract: A computer network security system and method utilizes digitally signed and centrally assigned policy data, such as password length rules, that is unilaterally enforced at network nodes by node policy enforcement engines. The policy data may be variable on a per client or network node basis through a centralized authority, such as a certification authority. The computer network security system provides variable security policy rule data for distribution to at least one network node through a central security policy rule data distribution source, such as the certification authority. The central security policy rule data distribution source associates a digital signature to the variable security policy rule data to ensure the integrity of the policies in the system. Each network node uses a policy rule data engine and policy rule table to decode policy rule data and enforce the policy rules as selectively determined through the central authority.

  • Patent number: 7174191
Abstract: Occurrences of at least one of a plurality of telephone number-related speech patterns are identified in an audio stream using speech analysis techniques. At least one number pattern corresponding to the occurrences are thereafter identified and stored for later presentation to a user of a mobile device. The occurrences and corresponding number pattern(s) may be filtered to reduce the likelihood of false detections. Furthermore, the detected number pattern(s) may be augmented to ensure completeness. Users may edit and persistently store the resulting number pattern(s). In one embodiment, a portion of the audio stream may be stored and subsequently subjected to the speech analysis process. The stored portion of the audio stream may be reproduced at substantially the same time that at least one number pattern detected therein is provided to the user. In this manner, telephone numbers in audio streams may be captured safely and conveniently.

  • Patent number: 7174507
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for obtaining structured data from text includes inputting text to be transformed into structured data, defining at least one criterion relating to content of the text, applying a first matching method to the text to identify a value in the text for each of the criterion, and applying a second matching method to the text to identify a value in the text for each of the criterion that the first matching method fails to identify a value for. Each of the criterion is then associated with a value obtained by the first or second matching method to create at least one criterion-value pair, and structured data is created based on the at least one criterion-value pair. The first matching method has a higher reliability than the second matching method.

  • Patent number: 7170951
Abstract: A device for predistorting a transmission signal to be transmitted over a nonlinear transmission path comprises an estimator for determining an error signal depending on the transmission signal and a previously registered transfer characteristic of the nonlinear transmission path. The error signal represents an estimate of an error generated due to the nonlinearity of the trans-mission path. A time-dispersive element is provided to produce a correction signal by a temporal extension of the error signal. A combiner is provided to combine the transmission signal and the correction signal. As a result of the temporal extension of the error signal, an error signal segment in the frequency spectrum of a transmission signal transmitted by the nonlinear transmission path is shifted away from the useful frequency range of the transmission signal.

  • Patent number: 7158094
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting multiple displays per a drawing surface begins by receiving capability parameters regarding a first display of the multiple displays. The capability parameters include resolution, pixel depth, and/or refresh rate. Typically, the first display will be the primary display associated with a video graphics card. The processing continues by substituting selected display capabilities for the capability parameters of the first display. The selected display parameters are such that it exceeds the display capability parameters of each display, or monitor, coupled to the video graphics card. The processing continues by providing the selected display capabilities to an operating system. The operating system then stores the selected display capabilities in the display register associated with a particular video graphics card.

  • Patent number: 7158140
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, a video source is received by a first video adapter. The video source is captured in the video memory associated with the first VGA. The stored video source is associated with a window of an existing application. When the window location of the existing application is shifted to coincide with the video memory of a second graphics adapter, a data transfer occurs to the appropriate video memory location of the second graphics adapter to allow the rendering of that portion of the video now residing on a second monitor.

  • Patent number: 7145564
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing tessellation lighting operations for video graphics primitives in a video graphics system is presented. When the vertex parameters corresponding to the vertices of a video graphics primitive are received, a tessellation operation is performed such that a number of component primitives are generated. The vertex parameters corresponding to the vertices of the component primitives are then calculated utilizing the vertex parameters for the original video graphics primitive. Such calculation operations include determining a corresponding normal vector for each component primitive vertex. Each of the component primitives is then individually processed. Such processing may include calculating the lighting effects for each component primitive and performing additional processing operations that generate pixel fragments for the primitive.

  • Patent number: 7142676
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securely communicating data employs a third-party to facilitate decryption by the recipient. It is necessary for the recipient to interact with the third-party to decrypt received encrypted data. The third-party is unable to decrypt or read the encrypted data and records whether the recipient requested a decryption key generated by the third-party. The third party logs the request from the second party for the decryption key. The originator may then obtain the delivery status of the data from the third party to facilitate proof of submission, proof of delivery, or any other suitable information.
