  • Patent number: 5455529
Abstract: A power semiconductor bridge circuit includes two power semiconductor components connected in series between positive and negative voltage sources. A connection between the two power semiconductor components is connected in common to an unsteady load. The connections between each power semiconductor component and a respective one of the positive and negative voltage sources includes at least two parallel-connected conductors. By reducing the current variation in each conductor, the parallel connections reduce self-induction and thereby voltage spikes due to rapid variations in the unsteady load. In one embodiment, one of the conductors connecting to the positive voltage source is arranged parallel to, and spatially proximate to, one conductor connecting to the negative source and likewise with the conductors connecting to the negative voltage source. In the latter embodiment, a further reduction in induction is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5451279
Abstract: A method for joining two ceramic sintered bodies with a joining layer. A magnesium layer is deposited on the ceramic sintered bodies to form a magnesium nitride layer. The joining layer has a component in common with a base component of the ceramic sintered bodies. The laminate is heat treated under conditions that convert the joining layer into a material substantially identical to that of the ceramic sintered bodies, whereby a homogeneous strong laminate results. The ceramic sintered body may be either an oxide, carbide or nitride. The joining layer is a metal corresponding to the base material of the ceramic sintered bodies. After joining, the joining layer is then nitrided. The resulting laminate has improved strength, and heat and corrosion resistance properties.

  • Patent number: 5430267
Abstract: In a keyboard switch that switches on and off by sliding a key stem, the key stem is slidably inserted in a key stem sleeve that is integral with the housing of the keyboard switch. The key stem comprises a sliding member integrally formed therewith and a keytop support whose shape is a wide flange formed integrally with and projecting outwardly from the outer periphery of the sliding member. An elastic hollow cylinder has one end hermetically joining the lower face of the keytop support and its other end hermetically joining the outer periphery of the key stem guide sleeve. With this structure, there can be no gap between the sliding member and the keytop support, so the interior of the keyboard switch is kept completely free from dust and moisture.

  • Patent number: 5420560
Abstract: An improved compact fuse has a fusible metal wire stretched between a pair of metal terminals. The wire and the portion of the terminals to which the wire is connected are enclosed in an envelope made of insulation material. The ends of the terminals protrude outside the envelope. The envelope is filled with silicon cellular resin to cover the wire and create many sectioned spaces that dissipate the thermal energy generated when the wire melts from overcurrent, thereby preventing damage to the envelope. When heated by vaporization of the fusible metal wire, the silicon cellular resin generates byproducts which rapidly extinguish the arc.

  • Patent number: 5415630
Abstract: A method for removably implanting a blood filter in a vein of the human body makes use of apparatus that includes an elastic guide wire onto which there can be fitted a semi-rigid tubular mandrel (itself fitted into a thin-walled tubular sheath). A catheter is provided in the form of an easily divisible flexible tube whose distal end permanently bears the blood filter, and whose proximal end is intended to receive a locating member which will be confined under the skin of the patient. After temporary implanting of the filter, a removable strengthening cable can be inserted in a removable manner in the catheter in order to displace the filter along the sheath during its positioning in a vein, in particular in the inferior vena cava of a patient. This filter can be easily removed after a certain period, when the risks of pulmonary embolism are no longer feared.

  • Patent number: 5395782
Abstract: A LOCOS film is formed on the surface of an epitaxial layer. A gate electrode is formed on the epitaxial layer. At the same time that the gate electrode is formed, a lower electrode is formed on the LOCOS film. A diffusion region is formed on each element and then covered with a BPSG film. A contact hole and capacitor exposure are formed in a capacitor element simultaneously. A film of SiN is deposited in layers over the capacitor exposure. The film of SiN covers undesired areas about the capacitor exposure. Excess SiN film outside the desired area over the capacitor exposure is removed by masking and etching to leave the remaining film area over the capacitor exposure to serve as a capacitor dielectric film. Finally, an Al upper electrode is formed over the SiN film to serve as electrode wiring. The process reduces the series resistance of the capacitor element, thereby reducing power required for charging the dielectric, and speeding the charging process.

  • Patent number: 5382929
Abstract: A monolithic crystal filter includes a crystal plate sealed airtight in a vessel. The vessel consists of a metal lid and a main body. The crystal plate is supported a predetermined distance from an insulating substrate. An input electrode and an output electrode are affixed to one surface of the crystal plate. A common electrode is affixed to the other surface of the crystal plate. The insulating substrate has a shield electrode thereon facing the input electrode and output electrode. The shield electrode is grounded to the metal lid of the vessel. An optimal distance between the shield electrode and the input electrode and the output electrode is disclosed for obtaining the best stopband attenuation level. An aluminum electrode island between the crystal plate and an electrode terminal develops an oxide coating which permits relaxation of stress and strain between the electrode island and its associated input and output electrodes to the resulting appropriate bonding strength therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5379717
Abstract: A method of growing a single semiconductor crystal with a flat top. In order to grow a single flat top crystal, the InP crystal is pulled up after the temperature drop of the melt has almost stopped, at a point in time when a meniscus at the interface of solid-liquid can be seen over the whole circumference of the surface of the melt. This prevents a facet from appearing at the shoulder portion of the crystal, thus reducing the generation of twin crystals and drastically improves retension of single crystal formation.

  • Patent number: 5368714
Abstract: An edge protector for an electrolysis electrode, has an outer surface shape in the central portion thereof which reduces the thickness in that portion to improve uniformity of cooling, and thereby reduce stress cracking as a result of the reduced buildup of thermal stresses. The outer surfaces may be inclined planes or suitable curved shapes that converge from an outer jaw toward an inner jaw. In one embodiment an edge protector includes a sealing member made of a sealing material such as silicone rubber, either integrally formed with the inner jaws, or affixed after forming. A spreader bar has a shape which enables clamping of the edge protector onto a mother blank without excessive expansion of the outer jaw, thereby lengthening service life, and easing installation. A tapered spreader bar for end insertion, and embodiments of spreader bars having flattened surfaces for edgewise insertion and then rotation for tightening are disclosed.
