Abstract: In a mechanical cell for blending elastomer particles and solution into uniform mixtures, a solid core with an entrance surface, an exit surface spaced apart from and substantially parallel to the entrance surface, and a plurality of minute core passageways therebetween for flow of an elastomer-containing hydrocarbon solution from the entrance surface to the exit surface, the passageways have a characteristic dimension of predetermined size to reduce globules of elastomer to small particles distributed evenly in liquid hydrocarbon solution without plugging the passageways. Typically the passageways have a characteristic dimension of predetermined size to reduce globules of elastomer selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, polybutadiene rubber, polyisoprene, a nitrile rubber, and a copolymer of a 1,4-conjugated diene and a vinyl aromatic monomer, to small particles distributed evenly in liquid hydrocarbon solution comprising a vinyl aromatic monomer.

Abstract: Processes are disclosed for recovery and purification of dibasic aromatic acids from waste polyester film, fiber, bottles, manufacturing residues, and other manufactured articles. The processes comprises: depolymerization of polyester resin in a molten polyester resin containing solvent with superheated stem, and vaporization of the aromatic carboxylic acid and other volatile products of hydrolysis to obtain a vaporized mixture containing aromatic acid, dihydric alcohol, other volatile products of hydrolysis, and water. This vapor mixture is, advantageously, substantially free of less volatile and non-volatile impurities including metals, and many colored and color causing compounds, which are, typically, found in post-consumer polyester resins.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for the preparation of liquid and aqueous solutions of amorphous colorless poly (vinyl methyl ether) polymer with low level of impurities from purified vinyl methyl ether. The polymer has relatively high molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution and does not degrade readily due to the presence of impurities. The purification of the monomer uses a procedure selected from the group consisting of a vapor-liquid separation, a solid-liquid separation and combinations thereof to remove the impurities at a temperature within the range of from -20.degree. C. to +30.degree. C. The aqueous solution is prepared by devolitilization of solvent solutions of the polymerized purified vinyl methyl ether monomer. The solid polymer is prepared by heating the aqueous solution of the poly(vinyl methyl ether). The amorphous polymers of poly(vinyl methyl ether) are particularly suited for adhesive applications.
