  • Patent number: 5627754
Abstract: To the end of ensuring a brisk maneuverability of a front and rear wheel steering vehicle without causing any unstable behavior of the vehicle, the rear wheels are steered in an opposite phase relationship to the front wheels to offset an under-steer tendency of the vehicle when a lateral acceleration acting on the vehicle is between a first prescribed value and a second prescribed value higher than the first prescribed value, and the vehicle would otherwise demonstrate an under-steer tendency, and in a same phase relationship to the front wheels to prevent an excessive slip angle from developing in the rear wheels when the detected lateral acceleration is greater than the second prescribed value, and the slip angle of the rear wheels would otherwise develop an excessive slip angle.

  • Patent number: 5620750
Abstract: The disclosed present invention relates to a method of applying a metallic coating, such as a finish paint coating to an automobile. This method comprises two processes or stages using a bell-shaped rotary atomizer and a metallic paint. The amount of paint ejected from the rotary atomizer, shaping air pressure, and coating speed are maintained at approximately the same values during both the first and second processes. In the first process, the peripheral speed of the bell-shaped atomizing head is set within a range of 39 to 65 m/s. In the subsequent second process, the peripheral speed of the bell-shaped atomizing head is set to a lower value than in the first process, that is, within the range of 21 to 39 m/s, and the reduction rate of the nonvolatile (NV) value is set to 3% or more. This method improves the orientation of a bright pigment, enabling the automobile to appear high-grade, and providing a quality metallic coating.

  • Patent number: 5615117
Abstract: In a method for controlling a front and rear wheel steering system in which front wheels of a vehicle are steered according to a combination of a steering wheel input and an output from a compensatory front wheel steering actuator, and rear wheels of the vehicle are steered by a rear wheel steering actuator. The front wheel steering angle is augmented according to the deviation of the actual yaw rate from a target yaw rate computed from the travelling speed of the vehicle and the steering input from the steering wheel to compensate for the delay in the yaw rate response so that the rear end of the vehicle would not be swung sideways during a turning maneuver, and the vehicle operator would not be subjected to any unfamiliar feeling.

  • Patent number: 5613709
Abstract: An upper supporting member for supporting an upper pin projecting upwardly from a steering gear box is supported on a rear subframe extending in back of the steering gear box. A lower supporting member for supporting a lower pin projecting downwardly from the steering gear box is supported on a front subframe extending between the lower supporting member and a rear surface of an engine in front of the steering gear box. An upper end of a pinion shaft extending upwardly from the steering gear box and a lower end of a steering shaft are interconnected by an intermediate shaft which is capable of being broken by a shear pin. Upon collision of the vehicle, the steering gear box can be turned or rotated forwardly relative to the supporting structure, whereby the steering wheel can be reliably moved forwardly, or released from the steering gear box to provide a secondary stroke.

  • Patent number: 5593002
Abstract: The hydraulic power steering system comprises a rotary valve unit actuated according to a twisting angle provided in a torsion bar connected between an input shaft and a pinion, and a conversion mechanism which can change the condition of the rotary valve unit for a given twisting angle of the torsion bar. A variable ratio lever mechanism may be used for this purpose. Thus, a torsion bar having a suitable rigidity can be used without causing any insufficiency in the assisting torque because the responsiveness of the steering system can be freely varied by changing the setting of the conversion mechanism. For instance, it is possible to provide a sufficient assist torque at low speed and a controlled responsiveness at high speed.

  • Patent number: 5590694
Abstract: The disclosed invention is a method and apparatus for winding a band, such as a metal band, around a flexible boot and fixing it thereto. Band clamping members are provided including right and left upper members and right and left lower members, and band guide surfaces on inner portions of the clamping members form an approximately round shape when these clamping members are closed. An inserted band is prevented from being caught along the band guide surfaces due to the structure thereof, and the band is wound around the outer circumference of the boot smoothly and reliably. After winding, welding and the cutting of the excess part of the band are carried out reliably and efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5591262
Abstract: The invention disclosed defined a vertically extending passage through the rotary center of an inner cup or the rotary center of a spinner in a notary chemical treater, disposes a stationary cleaning fluid nozzle in the passage, and injects the cleaning fluid from the nozzle to clean a lid of the rotary chemical treater and the underside of an object treatment within the treater. The underside of the lid and the underside of the objective part are efficiently cleaned, and the need for sealing the movable parts against the cleaning fluid is eliminated because the nozzle is stationary, ensuring the prevention of the cleaning fluid from leaking.

  • Patent number: 5576957
Abstract: In a control system for a front and rear wheel steering vehicle which steers the rear wheels so as to cancel a deviation of an actual yaw rate from a standard yaw rate which can be computed from the steering input, the vehicle speed and other parameters, there is provided a feature to automatically and manually cancel the yaw rate feedback control. If the actual yaw rate continues to exceed a threshold level for more than a certain time period, the yaw rate feedback is canceled gradually so as not to cause any abrupt change in the handling of the vehicle. Alternatively, if the vehicle operator wishes to operate the vehicle under extreme conditions, he may manually cancel the yaw rate feedback control so as to avoid undesirable interference or conflict between the manual steering effort and the yaw rate feedback control action. Thus, the maneuverability of the vehicle under extreme conditions can be improved without losing the benefits of the yaw rate feedback control.
