  • Patent number: 5079151
Abstract: msDNA is a peculiar molecule consisting of a branched RNA linked to single-stranded DNA via a 2', 5' phosphodiester bond. A cell-free system, utilizing cells permeablized with phenethyl, alcohol, was established to study the synthesis of msDNA in Myxococcus xanthus. Permeablized cell labeled with [.alpha.-.sup.32 P]dCTP in the presence of ddGTP, ddATP, or ddTTP, produce a band that migrates at the same position as the full-sized msDNA in an acrylamide gel. However, when this band is treated with ribonuclease A prior to gel electrophoresis, it resulted in many bands of different sizes. This indicates that during the labeling, intermediates are produced in which single-stranded DNAs of various lengths are associated with a compensatory length of RNA such that the total length for each intermediate is identical. These results provide evidence for the previously proposed model in which msDNA is synthesized by reverse transcriptase using a folded RNA precursor as a primer as well as a template.

  • Patent number: 5077031
Abstract: Catalytic process for producing sulphur from H.sub.2 S-containing acid gas wherein the acid gas is subjected to a catalytic oxidation in CLAUS stoichiometry and to a catalytic CLAUS reaction phase with deposition of sulphur on the catalyst with periodic regeneration of the sulphur-laden catalyst and cooling of the regenerated catalyst. The gas used for the regeneration and for the cooling is tapped from the acid gas supplied to the catalytic oxidation and the gas issued from the regeneration is reintroduced into said acid gas after separation of the sulphur contained therein. The process is particularly applicable to the treatment.

  • Patent number: 5074065
Abstract: An ironing device automatically moves an ironing plate across an ironing table. A pneumatic jack is arranged integral with the ironing plate, supported by a guide including at least two columns, and is adapted to displace the ironing plate vertically. First and second carriages cooperate with first and second motors for moving the ironing plate across the surface of the ironing table. A manual control allows motion of the ironing plate either along the main axes of the carriages or along two axes diagonal with respect to the other axes. In preferred embodiments of the invention, various safety devices are employed to prevent the hot ironing plate from moving into zones which would cause injury to the user.

  • Patent number: 5064971
Abstract: An improved fastening device. The fastener portion itself usually comprises a vise rotatably mounted on a base for connection to a support. In a first preferred embodiment the vise is mounted on a cylindrical stem rotatably mounted within a housing of the base having a cylindrical bore, the axis of rotation of the stem thus being the axis of rotation of the vise. In a second preferred embodiment, the base provides a cylindrical stem and the vise provides a housing with a cylindrical bore in which the stem is rotatably mounted. The vise has a pair of jaws between which a cable is fastened such that the neutral axis of the fastened cable is substantially perpendicular to the rotational axis of the vise.

  • Patent number: 5062763
Abstract: A stacker preferably includes two units, each having three storage drums which are arranged one above the other and which can be rotated independently of each other, and a feed device for carrying printing plates to the storage drums and arranged between the units. Further arranged between the storage drums is a drum loader for receiving printing plates from the feed device and for inserting the received plates into empty storage cells of the drums. The drums can be rotated independently of one another in a clockwise or a counterclockwise direction, for insertion or removal of the printing plates, which may be offset plates or other printing plates which must be handled very carefully.

  • Patent number: 5062544
Abstract: An automatic dispenser dispenses individual items which may not be of a uniform shape, such as bakery products. The items to be dispensed are disposed on an inclined plate having a rocker pivotably mounted at the lower end. A retaining tongue is mounted adjacent to the rocker to prevent the movement of items from the inclined plate into the rocker. When one item is to be dispensed, the retaining tongue is lowered to restrict the motion of the items on the inclined plate while the item in the rocker is tilted out of the rocker to be made accessible to the user.

  • Patent number: 5060065
Abstract: A printed circuit board inspection device includes a lighting system for use with the series of cameras associated with the printed circuit board inspection device which is essentially domed in configuration, and which incorporates a plurality of selectively controllable light emitting diodes for developing desired lighting patterns. The light emitting diodes are arranged within the domed fixture to form an array of defined latitudes and longitudes, and are capable of selective activation to develop the particular lighting patterns which are desired. This permits an acquisition of images useful in developing a "topographical display" of the acquired image, which is useful in enhancing the subsequent inspections which are to be performed.
