Abstract: A retractable guard for use in combination with a sewage pipe leading from a flush toilet is provided having a plurality of prongs with hooked ends positioned within a cross section of the pipe. The prongs are connected to a piston which is slidable within a cylinder, perpendicular to the pipe. Flushing the toilet causes water to be directed in the cylinder which in turn partially retracts the prongs. Water may be diverted from the cylinder to wash accumulated debris from the prongs.
Abstract: A flush control assembly for delaying the flush cycle of pressure flush valves for use on plumbing fixtures. The flush control assembly attaches to, and becomes an integral working part of the flush valve and contains a delaying means which is actuated by water pressure differentials in the flush valve.
Abstract: A head restraint is provided, comprising a resilient block having an exterior surface and including a bottom; an inclined front face having a top edge; a rear face; sidewalls; a cavity in the front face forming an interior cavity wall, the intersection of the cavity and the front face having a circumference less than the rear peripheral circumference of the head of a patient; and a split, opening between the cavity and the exterior, intersecting the rear face, the top edge and the front face above the cavity.

Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneously grilling food from above and below is provided having upper and lower grilling surfaces of gas fired tubes. The upper grill is hinged to lift up and provide access to the food and is vertically adjustable to accommodate variations in thickness of the item being cooked. The upper and lower grills are supported on a frame having a supply of combustion gases and induced draft exhaust system.
Abstract: A constant volume sampling system is provided, comprising a sample loop including a section of tubing having a predetermined volume and having a first end and a second end; a first valve having a first port, connectable to a process line, a second port connected to the first end of the sample loop, a third port, connectable to a pressurized gas line, and a selector for selectively establishing flow between the first and second ports or between the second and third ports; a second valve having a first port, connectable to the process line, a second port, connected to the second end of the sample loop, a third port, connectable to a sample container, and a selector for selectively establishing flow between the first and second ports or between the second and third ports; an actuator, for operating the first valve and the second valve; and a linkage, for linking the actuator and the first and second valves such that the actuator operates the first and second valves simultaneously, the linkage being operably conn
Abstract: A sample injection device is provided, comprising a vented needle having a body, the body having an upper end and a lower end, a point on the lower end, an injection passageway running axially through the body and communicating between the upper end and the lower end, and a vent passageway, running through the body and communicating between the lower end and the exterior of the body. The upper end of the body is connectable to a valve, and the lower end is connectable to a receptacle for receiving samples.
Abstract: A camming member for power tongs is provided, comprising a body including a central opening formed therein, the body being rotatable about a center point within the central opening, the body further including a slot for positioning a tubular member within the central opening, the body further including at least one cam surface adjacent to the central opening, the cam surface being formed such that, constant compressional force is applied to the tubular member by jaws urged inward by the cam surface. It is preferable that the body is ring-shaped and is provided with gear teeth radially extending from the outer periphery of the body.
Abstract: A brace to reinforce the horizontal bearers of scaffolds is provided having a trough shaped rest mounted on a top edge of a planar bracket. The brace is held in place by support tubes extending upward from the scaffold posts. Clamps pivotally connected to each side of the bracket engage the ends of the support tubes.
Abstract: An improved aquatic animal trap funnel made of a hollow, plastic conical tube, inside a crayfish trap, fitting over a pre-existing mesh funnel. The solid sheet funnel acts to retain more, larger crayfish by hindering escapes, encouraging a behavioral response for shelter, and retarding mesh funnel deformation.
Abstract: A video inspection system for hazardous environments is provided, comprising a housing, sealable so as to contain a pressurized gas therein, having a view opening therein and further including a valve for introducing pressurized gas into the housing, connected to the housing; and a transparent lens, sealingly affixed across the view opening; a camera for recording visual images through the view opening, mounted within the housing; and a power supply, for powering the camera, mounted within the housing and operatively connected to the camera. A method for operating the above system is also provided, including the steps of substantially purging undesirable gases from the interior of the housing; sealing the housing, eliminating external connections thereto; introducing non-flammable gas to the interior of the housing until the pressure in the housing reaches a desired level; and operating the camera within the housing. The system may also be operated as a portable lighting system without the camera.

Abstract: Operation of an intra-channel clarifier within a circulating sewage stream can be enhanced by flow adjusting vanes positioned within the sewage stream between the clarifier and channel wall, proximate to the clarifier sludge ports. In a preferred embodiment, the vanes are aligned perpendicular to the flow of the stream, on a vertical axis. The vanes are divided into an independently adjustable upper and lower portion which can be used to direct the sewage flow and alter the cross sectional area of the sewage stream in the vicinity of the clarifier. The rate at which sludge is removed from the clarifier is affected by the velocity of the sewage stream beneath the sludge ports as well as any turbulence or eddy currents which are produced.

Abstract: A process for treating wastewater to biologically remove phosphorous as well as lowering ammonia, TSS and BOD levels is provided. The process employs a plurality of basins which may be individually controlled to achieve anaerobic, anoxic or aerobic conditions. The basins are reconfigurable in that the flow of influent to a basin, transfer of mixed liquor between basins and effluent discharge from a basin can be varied to create a treatment cycle which has features of both continuous and batch processes while minimizing recycle rates and hydraulic level changes.
