Patent number: 4611202Abstract: The present invention is employed in a system which has a bit map memory connected to a CRT display device and the CRT display device can display a fixed region of information and a scrollable region of information. In a preferred embodiment, the system uses a graphic display control circuit to change starting addresses and length ending values of the fixed and scrollable regions in the bit map memory. By changing the starting address one scan line per frame, without any actual transfer of data in memory, from one location to another location, the present system effects a "smooth" scroll. The system is able to scroll upward and downward. The system uses logic circuitry to load an off screen segment of the bit map memory with additional scrollable information, so that (in an upward scroll load) as a top line of the scrollable information region is no longer displayed, new information will be displayed at the bottom line of said scrollable region.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1983Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventors: Robert S. Patent number: 4611326Abstract: A multi-stage modem status register, which has at least one stage which is ordinarily unused, is employed to receive operating condition signals from an associated modem. In addition bistable circuitry, which exists as part of the control circuitry of a transceiver, is used: (1) to provide a first binary signal when a data processor (with which the present system is used), generates a "resynchronization request" signal; and (2) to provide a second binary signal in response to resynchronization being achieved. The bistable circuitry is connected to the above described ordinarily unused stage to enable one or the other of the binary signals to be present. The multi-stage modem status register is regularly interrogated and the results are sent to both a memory and a comparison device. Output signals from the memory are transmitted to said comparison device, at the time that the results of a subsequent interrogation are transmitted to the comparison device.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1983Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventor: John E. Patent number: 4587595Abstract: The present invention includes a heat sink device which, in a preferred embodiment, has a number of fins extending from a flat base section. In addition, there are matching grooves formed in a pair of said fins and snapped into said grooves, there is located a plastic clip-on member. The clip-on member is designed to be spread, or temporarily deformed at its ends, in order to be clipped onto a holder which is holding an active element (a heat generating element), such as an integrated circuit. When the clip-on member is so clipped onto the holder, it applies force to hold said flat base section of said heat sink means against the section of the holder which overlies the active element to thereby conduct heat from the active element. The clip-on member can be readily removed if, for instance, the integrated circuit fails and in this way the heat sink is not wasted.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1983Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventor: James F. Patent number: 4572460Abstract: The present arrangement includes a first tape leader which can be readily and automatically coupled to a second tape leader. In a preferred embodiment the first tape leader is connected to be wound on a take up reel while the second tape leader is connected to a tape to be pulled from a supply reel. The first tape leader has one end formed into a mushroom like tab with a supporting stem. The second tape leader has a locking aperture at one end thereof which is proportioned so that a wide section thereof can fit over said mushroom like tab while a narrow section thereof will accept the stem but block passage of the mushroom tab therethrough. Accordingly when the tab is passed through the wide section and the leader is moved (pulled) toward the narrow section of the locking aperture, the tab and part of the stem become locked in the narrow section. Hence the leaders are locked, or buckled, to enable the first tape leader to pull the second leader.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1984Date of Patent: February 25, 1986Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventor: Friedrich R. Patent number: 4512737Abstract: The present invention includes a heat insulation wall which is formed in a closed plane configuration, such as a circle, and which has first and second pairs of apertures formed therein to accommodate cooling (inert) gases which are introduced into the heat chamber defined by said insulation wall. The cooling gases pass into the heat chamber and out of the heat chamber through the first and second pairs of apertures to cool a workpiece which has been heat treated. The pairs of apertures lie (in pairs) opposite one another on the periphery of the heat insulation wall. Outside of the heat insulation wall, lying opposite the first pair of apertures, is located a heat reflecting member and opposite the second pair of apertures, outside of the heat insulation wall, there is located a heat reflecting baffle. Accordingly when the heat chamber is operating in a heat treating mode any heat which passes through an aperture or a pair of apertures is reflected back through said apertures into the heat chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1983Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Assignee: Vacuum Furnace Systems CorporationInventor: Clifford R.
