  • Patent number: 6331082
Abstract: The camera of this invention preferably includes a combined film advance/rewind mechanism for advancing film from a film cassette to a film path and to a film spool and for rewinding film into the cassette after the film has been exposed within the film path. The combined film advance mechanism preferably thrusts film from the film cassette in order to begin the loading process and then pulls the film to wind it around the film spool after the film has been thrusted to the film spool. Preferably, the combined film advance/rewind mechanism is manually operated and can be operated either to advance film or rewind film. Further the combined film advance/rewind mechanism preferably has an interlock that prevents thrusting of the film when the combined film advance/rewind mechanism is in a rewind position and rewinding film the combined film advance/rewind mechanism is in an advance position.

  • Patent number: 6329523
Abstract: Novel compounds having the formula: wherein the constituent variables are defined herein. The compounds are constructed to include a central aromatic, aliphatic, or heterocyclic ring system. Attached to the central ring system are two linear groups having nitrogenous moieties that are derivatized with chemical functional groups. The ring system can include further nitrogenous moieties, either as ring atoms or on pendant groups attached to the ring, that may also be derivatized with chemical functional groups. The totality of the chemical functional groups imparts certain conformational and other properties to the these compounds. In accordance with certain embodiments of the invention, libraries of such compounds are prepared utilizing permutations and combinations of the chemical functional groups and the nitrogenous moieties to build complexity into the libraries.

  • Patent number: 6324026
Abstract: A storage media is disclosed and comprises a storage body and a readable indelible mark formed in the body such that portions thereof are indelibly altered. The mark is read by writing first data to the body in the region of the mark, and reading second data from the body in such region. The written first data is not accepted where the portions of the body are indelibly altered. Accordingly, the read second data corresponds to the written first data with segments thereof missing. The missing segments of the first data correspond to the portions of the body indelibly altered. In a preferred embodiment, the storage media comprises a magnetic rotatable disk having a substantially planar substrate and a magnetizable layer deposited thereon. The reading and writing are therefore performed magnetically.

  • Patent number: 6324571
Abstract: A system for switching exclusive authority to perform a predefined system-wide task between machines in a network comprises: a database having an attribute for identifying a master server in the domain to exclusively perform the predefined network-wide task. The database is replicated on each of the servers in the domain. The attribute may be changed so as to change the master server to another one of the servers in the domain. While multiple servers in the network may be physically capable of performing the predefined system-wide task, at any one time only one server may be designated as the master server. The master server role may, however, be “floated” among various servers in the network. At any particular moment, the machine which currently holds the master server role is referred to as the master server role owner and is identified in an attribute, role owner, that is stored on each server in the network.
