Abstract: The subject of the invention is a tie rod joint for motor vehicles for the linking of the inner ends of two tie rods to a steering rod, actuated by a steering gear, the inner ends of the tie rods being shaped as formed joint parts, which project in each case between an outer and an inner bearing part, while between the joint parts and the outer bearing part on the one hand, and the inner bearing part on the other, inlays are arranged, and while the outer bearing part, the joint parts, the inlays and the inner bearing part are prestressed by at least one tension bolt fastened to the steering rod.
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for controlling a power assist steering system of the type having an electric assist motor connected to a steering member such as a rack and a steering shaft including first and second coaxial shaft sections rotatable with respect to each other and connected by an elastic member. One of the shaft sections is coupled to the hand wheel and the other to the steering member. A cam operated, reversing switch is coupled across the first and second shaft sections. A drive circuit and the electric assist motor are connected to the reversing switch. A control circuit measures the relative rotation between the two shaft sections and controls the drive circuit. Relative rotation of the two steering shaft sections mechanically controls the reversing switch.
Abstract: A strain transducer of the kind in which a plug is inset into a workpiece surface requires an accurate interface fit with a drilled hole. One method proposes an oversize hole (12) which first receives an annular insert (14) in whose aperture (15) the transducer plug is a precision fit. The outer cylindrical surface of the insert has axially parallel serrations (16) which bite into the sides of the hole. Another method also has an oversize hole (22) whose mouth is constricted by a cylindrical punch (25) around a precision mandrel (24) which is then replaced by the transducer plug (28). Serrations (35) may alternatively be provided directly on the transducer plug (32), which can then be driven into a drilled hole (36) of only approximate accuracy.
Abstract: The JFET transistor differential amplifier herein serves as an input stage, as for an electrometer operational amplifier, and exhibits high input impedance and low leakage current. This is achieved by biasing the JFET transistors so as to operate in the ohmic region rather than the saturation region of their characteristic drain current-gate to source voltage curve.
Abstract: A safety belt retractor has a belt spool which is rotatably supported on a frame. A belt slack retightening mechanism is positively coupled to the belt spool to drive the belt spool in a direction upon occurrence of excessive deceleration of the vehicle. A blocking device is operable to block the belt spool from rotation. A control apparatus is provided to control the blocking device in response to acceleration of belt webbing withdrawal from the belt spool. The control apparatus includes a control disc which is supported for limited relative rotation with respect to the belt spool. An inertial disc is coupled with the control disc for rotation therewith by a coupling. The coupling permits rotation of the inertial disc with respect to the control disc only upon the exceeding of a predetermined retightening rotational acceleration of the belt spool and control disc.
Abstract: A safety belt lock has a lock housing with an insertion path for an insertion tongue of a safety belt. The insertion opening of the insertion path is defined between opposed resilient flange members bearing on surface portions of the insertion tongue to generate mutually perpendicular clamping forces whereby any rattling noises are avoided.
Abstract: In a rotary printing press with a blanket cylinder (2) and an impression cylinder (3), the blanket is removed and replaced by a base sheet (5). On this base sheet (5) are arranged strips (6). The arrangement of the strips (6) corresponds to the perforation, stamping or creasing to be produced in the paper or cardboard passing through the rotary printing press. On the impression cylinder (3) is arranged a smooth protective sheet (7). Both sheets (5) and (7) can be used several times and can be installed or removed rapidly by means present on the machine.
Abstract: An improved core is adapted to extend axially through the central portion of a mold cavity in which an airfoil or other article is formed. The core is used to form cooling passages as the airfoil is cast in the mold cavity. The core has an elongated cantilevered center section which is disposed within a main or base section. A metallic pin member extends from a free end portion of the cantilevered center section of the core to the main section of the core to hold the free end portion of the cantilevered center section against movement relative to the main section.
Abstract: A presser foot lift device for an upper feed sewing machine is so arranged that an upper feed tooth is initially lifted and then lifted along with a presser foot only after the lower surface of the upper feed tooth is at a position above the upper surface of the presser foot. This two-step lifting motion is made feasible by the combined operation of an elongated slot formed in a manually rotated actuating arm and a pin formed on an actuator pivotally mounted in coaxial fashion on a supporting shaft of the actuating arm and so adapted as to be introduced into the elongated slot.
Abstract: A liquid sample holder having a fluid sample receptacle bounded by two substantially parallel sheets. The parallel sheets define a fluid analysis area, and adjacent to that area is a peripheral overflow. Air bubbles are trapped in the peripheral overflow because the distance between the plates is smaller than the depth or thickness of the peripheral overflow.

Abstract: A sewing machine for stitching a stitch pattern having a predetermined shape in accordance with stitch pattern data, comprising a memory circuit for storing an initial value indicating the needle swing position for stitch start, a basic stitch number indicating the stitch number required for the formation of one pattern, and quantity of needle swing every stitch pattern, a counter in which the high-order digit portion and the low-order digit portion have the same number of digits, and a control circuit for setting said basic needle number into the low-order digit portion of said counter, adding logic value "1" to each digit of the low-order digit portion, determining a needle swing position in accordance with the arithmetic data, and conducting automatic stitch of said stitch pattern in accordance with the needle swing position thus determined.
Abstract: A thread feed device in a sewing machine is disclosed herein. The device comprises a thread paying-out member positioned in the thread path between the bobbin and needle, a pair of holding means positioned upstream and downstream of the paying-out member in the thread path and a control circuit for controlling of the operation of the holding means.
Abstract: A device for moving gripping jaws into engagement with a workpiece comprising two coaxial fluid cylinders for moving the jaws. A piston fixedly connected with a gripping jaw moves in each of the cylinders. Fluid pressure is applied to opposite sides of the pistons to effect movement of the pistons away and toward each other to thereby move the jaws away and toward each other. A means is provided to insure synchronous movement of the two pistons. The means comprises a rod extending along the axis of the two cylinders. The pistons and the rod have a driving interconnection. The driving interconnection effects rotation of the rod in opposite directions upon movement of the pistons away and toward each other. A bearing assembly located between the two fluid cylinders supports the rod for rotation.
Abstract: A soporific containing lorazepam for oral or rectal administration, containing lorazepam and diphenhydramine or a diphenhydramine acid addition salt in the weight ratio of from 1:10 to 1:75.The especially favorable weight ratio of lorazepam to diphenhydramine is 1:20 to 1:35.The invention also relates to a process for the production of a soporific containing lorazepam and diphenhydramine.
Abstract: An optically black coating with improved infrared absorption is disclosed along with a process for formation therefor. An anodizable substrate is first treated in a surface modification step prior to anodizing to produce major surface modifications at least about 100 microns in width and at least about 50 microns in depth. Preferably, the depth is at least about 1/2 the width, and the modifications are present in a random series of irregularly sized modifications having widths from about 100 microns to about 1,000 microns and depths from about 50 microns to about 750 microns. A second aspect involves the use of steam for sealing the anodized surface.

Abstract: An apparatus for use in installing mine roof supports includes a vehicle which carries a coil of rod material. The rod material is fed from the coil and straightened. The straightened rod material is inserted into a hole drilled in the roof of the mine. An anchor is set to hold the rod material in the hole. A mine roof support plate is pressed against the roof of the mine and a fastener is tightened against the mine roof support plate to hold it in place. The rod material is then cut to separate the length of rod in the hole from the coil.
