Abstract: A fluidic seal is provided for vent stacks which comprises a plurality of spaced frusto-conical concentric baffles with aligned central openings permitting free outward delivery of gas for discharge but providing an obstruction to reverse or return flow within the stack, the baffles at their openings being provided with static electricity preventing rings. Protection is afforded by the baffles against initiation of combustion due to static electricity and in the event of combustion of the discharging gas initiated by lightening preventing backflow in the stack.

Abstract: A combustor is described for use in populated areas which may be elevated, and mounted on the roof of a building or which may be mounted on the ground, the combustor being adapted for waste gas having a very low btu content, or is a very dirty gas containing tars and particulate material, or is a very low pressure gas which has insufficient kinetic energy to mix readily with air, an upright combustion chamber open at the top being employed surrounded by an acoustical fence to reduce transmission of noise from the combustion and from secondary air supplied over the fence to reduce wind effect, and to reduce light transmission from the combustion process, the burners being disposed beneath a radiation floor and being independent and separately removable for cleaning without shut down of the combustor.

Abstract: A multiple pilot system is shown for ignition of waste gas from a flare burner, provisions being made to reduce or limit the pilots for ignition at the most effective location as determined by the wind direction and further, if desired by the wind velocity, the reduction in the number of pilots effecting substantial savings of combustible gas. Provision is made for emergency supply of gas to the pilots as desired.

Abstract: An air operated power plant is provided with a pair of impellers rotating on vertical axes. A pair of panels is mounted in fixed relation to the impellers forming a V-shaped converging tunnel with the impellers near the rear of the V. The purpose of the tunnel is to act as an amplifier taking the wind from a large cross section and amplifying its speed and power and thereby concentrating its effect on the vanes of the impellers. The panels are built in the shape of vertical airfoils with the negative surfaces disposed outwardly so that wind which passes outside the structure will create a vacuum outside and behind the structure. The panels have openings behind the impellers so that the vacuum caused by the airfoil design forceably draws air compressed in the tunnel out past the impellers. The impellers and the entire power plant can be mounted to extend upwardly from the ground eliminating the need for a costly supporting tower. The impeller shafts can drive electric generators or any other desired load.

Abstract: A hand held golf club tool is provided which is useful to clean mud and debris from the head of a golf club. The tool includes a flat portion on one end to scrape mud and debris from flat portions of the head and is provided with separated raised rib portions on the other end to clean mud and debris from the grooves in the golf club head. The tool may be made of magnetic reactive material which permits it to be detachably secured to a strip of magnetic material fastened to the side of the golf bag.

Abstract: A gutter system is described for use around the perimeter of a swimming pool for skimming the surface water of the pool, and for returning clean water to the pool, which includes an open box like gutter body, made in two vertical halves with a cover plate detachably connecting the vertical halves at the top and a vertical lip extending from each gutter half at the bottom abutting and connected together by bolts. The gutter halves are formed in sections of uniform length which each have an overlapping portion at one end for telescoping engagement with the adjacent gutter length, and with brackets adjacent the ends of the gutter sections with bolts therethrough to hold the sections together.The gutter halves are bolted at the bottom to adjustable anchoring and support brackets fastened to the pool wall. The meeting points of the front and rear gutter sections may be staggered so that the front and back seams are not at the same location.

Abstract: A self-aligning spherical bushing whose spherical mating surfaces are protected by a seal of unique construction which keeps out water, dust, dirt, etc. but freely permits the bearing to have a wide range of movement.

Abstract: An automatic coupler for railway and other vehicles which includes an outer housing carried by the vehicle and formed of a plurality of welded metal plates, with a spring urged coupler hook mounted therein for horizontal pivotal movement for engagement with the hook of a coupler mounted on an adjacent vehicle. The coupler hook on the adjacent vehicle is urged into engagement position and retained therein by a keeper arm which is engaged with the coupler hook on the first vehicle for movement therewith. The coupler hook is unlocked by a cam bearing on it and which may also act on the opposed interengaged coupler hook from the adjacent vehicle, which cam may be operated manually or automatically.

Abstract: A reversible outboard motor is provided with structure for distribution of the exhaust gas from the motor away from the propeller and which may be integral or an attachment for existing outboard motors.

Abstract: A flare burner of the ground flare type for incinerating waste combustible gas from refineries and the like is disclosed, for use in populated areas, which has a plurality of waste gas burner heads for simultaneous operation at the same level, which may be utilized as a ground flare or which may, in a modified form, be elevated and provided with a bottom heat shield, which can have additional combustible liquid waste burners in one or more side walls, the flare burner having a combustion chamber with an improved panel construction and a fence of the knock out type to minimize wind effects and to provide an acoustical barrier so that noise transmission horizontally from the lower air inlets is greatly reduced.

Abstract: A dispenser is provided for dispensing from a roll of tape or labels in a predetermined length, which dispenser includes an inner shell carrying a roll of tape or labels to be dispensed through an outlet opening, an outer housing rotatable for a limited distance with respect to the inner shell with an outlet opening for the tape or labels and an interposed friction lock for advancing the tape or labels for dispensing.

Abstract: Rescue apparatus is described for use in the rescue of persons from high rise and other buildings, which includes a net of flexible material carried by a frame that extends outwardly from a window below the location of the person to be rescued, with portions engaged with the floor and ceiling of the room which apparatus is extensible, collapsible, foldable, and portable to provide easy assembly for use.The apparatus includes cushioning members on the frame carrying the net and a scoop inside the net to direct the rescued person inside the window.

Abstract: A ground flare for burning of waste gas is disclosed having groups of burners in a pit for selective utilization in accordance with the quantity of gas to be burned together with controls therefor, and with provisions for reducing expansion of the headers carrying the gas. The burners are in groups, the burners in each succeeding group being in a predetermined increasing number to provide great variability in capacity of gas to be burned and with the burners being utilized more effectively than heretofore upon variation in the quantity of the waste gas delivered to be burned.

Abstract: A motor driven pump is described having an improved and simplified construction of pump casing and impeller with easy adaptability of the components over a wide range of capacity, an improved construction of the motor stator and rotor with structure which is adaptable for selection for use over a wide range of input, improved structure for alignment and support of the motor stator and of the motor rotor, adequate provisions for cooling and for pressure balancing and which may be made explosionproof, if desired.

Abstract: A heddle frame for looms for weaving is provided having a readily attachable and removable brace for the frame intermediate its ends for preventing distortion of the top and bottom rails, the brace being of synthetic plastic material and/or metal with connectors at the top and bottom. The brace is particularly adapted for heddle frames which are supported and actuated by the bottom rail.

Abstract: An air distribution ceiling for clean rooms is disclosed which includes a first or primary plenum chamber at the top of a room with a clean air supply communicating with it, the top of this chamber being bounded by the room ceiling and the bottom being bounded by a plurality of vertically spaced horizontal interlocked upper panels, a second plenum chamber bounded at the top by the upper panels and at the bottom by lower horizontal interlocked panels and forming the ceiling of the room. The panels are carried on spaced parallel supporting bars suspended from the top wall of the room and extending therealong, the supporting bars being held in spaced relation by spacer bars extending therebetween and having ledges to carry the upper and lower plates and to permit the insertion and removal of the lower panels from below. The panels each has a plurality of nozzle holes therethrough for downward air delivery and to provide for uniform air displacement within the room.

Abstract: A panel construction for roofs and the like is disclosed for use as an insulated structural roof deck and insulated structural wall which includes panels capable of being readily handled, the panels being attached to and supported by spaced long span bar joints or the like, or other structural steel framing, the panels each having a lower board preferably of gypsum to serve as a fire shield and to which at least one small structural steel stiffener or joist member preferably of I-shape and of sheet metal is secured. I-shaped joist members are also provided along one end margin and along one edge margin of each panel. The space between the internal joists and to the I-shaped margin members is filled with polyurethane foam formed along one side edge and one end edge as tongues for engagement in the I-shaped margin members. The lower board is preferably vented to permit the escape of gas generated by exposure of the foam to very high temperatures.

Abstract: A connector is disclosed for joining together rigid hollow tubular members which may move relative to each other which connector includes a casing of resilient material preferably elastomeric in nature, synthetic or natural rubber, the organic elastomers or any resilient plastic material, a preferred example being an outer casing of moulded natural or synthetic rubber with a plurality of reinforcement corrugations or ribs between straight end portions which are detachably secured to the tubular members, the corrugations or ribs having grooves on the inside of the casing adjacent thereto into which relatively rigid O-rings are locked in place thereby resisting collapse of the connector due to vacuum. The connectors can be straight or curved.

Abstract: A fishing reel is disclosed having a spool supported on a shaft between spaced housings. One of the housings has a shaft supporting bearing and a slidably mounted click. The other of the housings which carries the operating handle encloses a pressure plate for adjustable and controlled engagement with a friction drag washer on the spool. A knob for preset adjustment and a brake control lever with limited movement for rapid control of the engagement and disengagement of the pressure plate and drag washer are provided accessible on the other of said housings for free spooling or a braking action on the spool.
