Abstract: A method and computer-readable medium for storing content in a peer-to-peer network is provided. A client of a peer-to-peer network receives a plurality of data blocks that respectively include a portion of the content. One or more of the plurality of data blocks are pseudo-randomly selected. The selected data block is then stored. In other embodiments, a method and computer-readable medium for playing streaming content in a peer-to-peer network is provided. A desired playback position of the streaming content is obtained. A first sequence number of a current data block of the streaming content is obtained. An estimation of a second sequence number that corresponds to the desired playback position is made. A connection with a peer client having a data block with the second sequence number associated therewith is made and the data block is received from the peer client.

A peer client in the peer-to-peer network connects with a node of the peer-to-peer network. The client receives header data associated with the streaming content and stores the header data in a local storage of the client.

Abstract: A method, computer-readable medium and system for configuring a network client as a peer client in a peer-to-peer network is provided. A network client connects with a network node and obtains a data structure that includes plug-in code from the network node. The network clients installs a plug-in from the plug-in code. The plug-in connects with a control server of the peer-to-peer network and receives connectivity information of one or more nodes of the peer-to-peer network. The plug-in connects with at least one of the one or more nodes.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for providing advertisement data by a network system is provided. A client connects with the network system and receives multimedia data therefrom. The client processes the multimedia data. Advertisement data is output by a plug-in run by the client in response to processing the multimedia data. The plug-in may transmit metrics of the advertisement data to a data processing system.

Abstract: A method and computer-readable medium for downloading content in a peer-to-peer network is provided. A client detects a download event associated with an identifier of a file and submits a query that includes an identifier of a file to an indexing server. The client receives a peer list including connectivity information of a peer node that has stored at least a portion of content of the file. The client then connects wit the peer node, and downloads the portion from the peer node.
