Abstract: The invention concerns a scrubber for cleaning work area exhaust air polluted with particles, in particular exhaust air containing particles of paint from a paint spray booth. The scrubber has a flow duct (5), defined in cross section by two opposite duct walls (7). The flow duct (5) includes an inlet region (4) into which the polluted exhaust air flows and into which a fluid (16), running along the duct walls (7), is introduced. The flow duct (5) terminates downstream in an outlet nozzle (3) which runs, transversely to the general flow-in direction (18), into the inlet region (4) and is formed between an upper (8) and a lower (9) duct wall section. A guide wall (2), which has at least one curved portion, tangentially adjoins the upper duct wall section (8), downstream of the outlet nozzle (3).

  • Patent number: 5762548
Abstract: A method and apparatus of ventilating a treatment cubicle such as a painting or spraying cubicle used for painting items such as vehicle bodies. Wherein fresh air to be supplied to the cubicle is supplied via an air-permeable ceiling (1); and air supply chamber (2) is provided above the ceiling (1) and communicates with an inlet air chamber (3) which is connected via at least one aperture (4) to a fresh air supply system. The volume of fresh air flowing into the air supply chamber (2) can be regulated by altering the aperture (4). The proposed process is characterized by the fact that at least some of the fresh air drawn into the inlet air chamber (3) is forced to flow in a path parallel to the ceiling (1) for a predetermined distance before passing via the aperture (4) into the air supply chamber (2), while the parameters needed to regulate the fresh air flow are measured in the end region of the directed air stream.

  • Patent number: 5707422
Abstract: A method for use in an electrostatic precipitator unit, of controlling, with a view to cleaning an incoming dust-laden gas, the supply of conditioning agent to the incoming contaminated gas upstream of the precipitator unit. The precipitator unit includes discharge electrodes and collecting electrodes, between which a varying high voltage is maintained by means of a pulsating direct current supplied thereto. The frequency, the pulse charge and/or pulse length of the pulsating direct current are so varied that a plurality of frequency-charge-length combinations are obtained. For each combination, a figure of merit is measured or calculated. The figures of merit are used for establishing an optimal combination. The supply of conditioning agent is adjusted in dependence upon the pulse frequency of the established optimal combination.

  • Patent number: 5657555
Abstract: In a process for drying coated surfaces in a hot-air dryer, part of the hot air in the dryer is continuously circulated therein as a secondary air stream which is mixed with a primary air stream heated to above the drying temperature (T.sub.max). This reduces the quantity of hot air to be fed into the dryer and thus the material requirements are reduced and the heating time shortened. A hot-dryer for implementing the process has, in the hot-air chambers (7,8) arranged symmetrically on either side in the interior (6) of the dryer, a separating wall (22) dividing an internal chamber (7) and an outer chamber (8) which has fun intake aperture (9) at its lower end for secondary air. At the lower end of the inner chamber (7), the primary air is fed in at a higher flow rate and mixed with the secondary air taken in through the aperture (9).

  • Patent number: 5651822
Abstract: In order to create a simple car body surface treatment device, a car body is introduced into and removed again from the treatment bath (11) simply by being rotated by a rotating device (2), at the same time as another car body is pushed onto and secured to said rotating device or conveyed past said device. The car body is fixed to a loading carriage (5) and is pushed by means of some driven rotary rollers (3a) onto the rotating device (2). By means of fastening devices (4a, 4b) the loading carriage (5) is detachably secured to the car body on the rotating device (2). By rotating through 180.degree. around an axis of rotation (7), the rotating device (2) dips together with the car body over its tail or front side into the treatment bath (11). While one car body is submerged, another loading carriage (5) together with the car body fastened thereon may be conveyed by the driven rotary rollers (3b) past the rotating device (2) for subsequent treatment, over the top surface of the rotating device (2).

  • Patent number: 5639294
Abstract: Method for controlling, in case of flashover between electrodes in an electrostatic precipitator, the current supply to the electrodes from a controllable high-voltage direct-current source. The current supplied to the precipitator and the voltage between the electrodes of the precipitator are measured substantially continuously or at close intervals. After the flashover, the current supply to the electrodes of the precipitator is completely interrupted during a first time interval. During a second time interval directly following the first time interval, a current which is greater that the one supplied immediately before the flashover is supplied to the precipitator. Subsequently, the current is reduced to a value below the one prevailing immediately before the flashover.

  • Patent number: 5624648
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cleaning a flue-gas stream containing hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide are disclosed. The flue gas is treated in a wet cleaner (5), thereafter injected with lime (9) and filtered through a filter (13). The method and apparatus are distinguished by the fact that a pan of the flue-gas is bypassed the wet cleaner (5) through a conduit (15), to join the remainder of the flue-gas stream before the filter (13). In this way, hydrogen chloride in the bypassed stream is reacted with injected lime to form calcium chloride, which promotes the sulfur-dioxide separation upon the injection of lime.

  • Patent number: 5582634
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for cleaning a gas containing pollutants, such as hydrogen chloride and heavy metals, are described. The polluted gas (2) is contacted with an aqueous washing liquid (3) in a scrubber (1), whereupon part of the washing liquid is preevaporated in a preevaporation unit (7) to form a hydrochloric-acid-containing top fraction, which is essentially free from heavy metals, and a bottom fraction containing hydrochloric acid and heavy metals. Part of the bottom fraction is recirculated (15) for renewed preevaporation, while the remainder of the bottom fraction is treated (16) to remove any heavy metals present. The top fraction from the preevaporation is distilled in a rectification unit (22) to form a top fraction (31) and a bottom fraction (35).

  • Patent number: 5573183
Abstract: A method and apparatus for heating room space of a building. According to the invention, heat is conveyed from district heating water to a heating liquid of heating circuits for heating the building, tap water and supply air of ventilation. According to the invention, the heating circuits for heating the building and the supply air are connected in series in such a manner that the heating liquid flowing in the piping heats, after passing a heat exchanger, first the heating circuit for heating the building and thereafter the heating circuit for heating the supply air. On account of the invention, the temperature of the district heating return water is lower than in the known apparatuses.
