  • Patent number: 11708735
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting and/or milling of tubulars in a wellbore, especially using coiled tubing. An elongated main body has a longitudinal bore, with a piston slidably positioned in the bore. The piston is connected to one or more operating arms which are rotatably connected to the main body. The connection between the piston and the operating arms may be a pinned connection or a geared connection, both of which provide for a positive connection between the piston and the operating arms. Cutter bases are connected to the cutter arms, with a number of cutters mounted to the cutter bases. Fluid flow down the coiled tubing and through the main body bore pushes the piston downwardly, opening the operating arms and cutter bases and permitting the apparatus to be pulled up into the lower end of a tubular string for cutting and/or milling.

  • Patent number: 10605025
Abstract: A casing mill for downhole casing milling has multiple elongated cutter bases hingedly connected to a main body by a plurality of positioning arms. An operating mechanism within the main body of the casing mill, actuated by fluid flow, moves the cutter bases to an extended position. Multiple cutters fixed to the cutter bases are then positioned to engage a casing end surface. Preferably, the cutters are arranged in vertically spaced apart rows, such that when one row is worn out in the milling process a visual indication is seen at the surface, as the casing mill drops to the next row of cutters.

  • Patent number: 10344563
Abstract: An instrument for the mechanical removal of corrosive buildup, deposits or scale from within a wellbore. A tubing-conveyed scraping blade and/or other abrading devices (50) has a collapsible maximum outer diameter by using a multi-bar mechanism (53, 54) to ensure physical contact with corrosive buildup, deposits or scale on surfaces of a surrounding wellbore, oil and gas tubular, or drilling/production marine riser (and, in particular, inner surfaces thereof). The multi-bar mechanism allows for a wide range of motion irrespective of the direction of loading and variable maximum outer diameter to clean corrosive buildup, deposits or scale from tubular goods with unknown configurations and/or dimensions.

  • Patent number: 10344548
Abstract: A downhole cutting tool for cutting sections or “windows” in tubular strings in wellbores has rotating cutters and a lower stabilizer section, both actuated by a fluid operated mechanism. The stabilizer section keeps the downhole cutting tool centralized in the tubular string. The cutters may have a robust profile and structure which enhances the window cutting function and permits passage of an operating rod to operate the stabilizer section.

  • Patent number: 10240418
Abstract: A casing mill having a main body with cutter bases with cutters mounted on the cutter bases. The cutter bases are moved radially by operating arms which are rotatably attached to the main body, which are in turn moved by an operating mechanism in response to fluid flow through. One or more of the operating arms are extended to form a cutout arm, which enables cutting an initial window in a casing string, from which milling can continue. The operating arms are mounted to the main body by pins, which are held in the main body by a pin retaining arrangement.

  • Patent number: 9932790
Abstract: A casing cutting tool, to be disposed downhole in a casing string on a drillstring, for the cutting and/or milling of casing strings. The tool has a main body with a plurality of rotatable blades which can rotate between a first retracted position to a second position substantially at right angles to the main body. In this second position, cutting surfaces on the blades engage the casing wall, and rotation of the tool results in cutting of the casing. A plurality of stabilizing arms are rotatably attached to the main body. A link between the blades and the stabilizing arms forces the stabilizing arms to rotate outward when the blades rotate outward. The stabilizing arms are dimensioned to span the inner diameter of the casing string, while leaving clearance to rotate the tool. The outermost ends of the stabilizing arms are rounded to avoid cutting the casing and reduce drag.

  • Publication number: 20170037723
Abstract: A fluid (30) of optically clear composition is used to create a viewing window within a wellbore (1), pipelines, tanks, vessels, or any other similar environment. Selective placement of optically clear fluid facilitates acquisition of visual images and/or other data in particular areas of interest within environments containing opaque or non-transparent fluids. Such optically clear fluid can displace opaque fluids and gases, while maintaining specific viscosity, weight, and other fluid properties in order to keep opaque fluids from encroaching into a viewing area while visual data acquisition is performed.

  • Publication number: 20170016318
Abstract: A wireless communication assembly permits convenient and effective communication between down hole logging and/or data storage tools conveyed via non-conductive wireline and surface equipment, including while such tools are situated within a lubricator, wellhead or other surface equipment. Data acquired by a down hole logging or data storage tool is transmitted to a wireline-conveyed communication assembly, and then wirelessly transmitted to a surface data communication assembly. Thereafter, such data can then be acquired, displayed and/or downloaded via an external data port on said surface data communication assembly using a wired or wireless connection.

  • Publication number: 20160259237
Abstract: A downhole camera assembly (100) comprises a camera having a side-view viewport (82) that can be conveyed and manipulated within a wellbore on flexible cable. Light emitted from a light source is diffused and directed by a transparent or translucent material (61) in a substantially 360-degree pattern within a wellbore, thereby illuminating portion(s) of the wellbore positioned laterally to the camera assembly in a field of view of the viewport. The viewport may be selectively rotated 360 degrees by a motor assembly (40) positioned within the camera assembly which can be controlled from the earth's surface.

  • Publication number: 20160168939
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficient and effective collection of debris from a wellbore, while permitting simultaneous visual verification of such debris collection. A debris collection assembly comprises a combination of one or more of the following: a reverse circulation assembly, a video assembly and at least one filter assembly. Fluids are circulated into a wellbore annular space via the reverse circulation assembly, into the video assembly where fluid and any associated debris are visually sensed and recorded, into the filter assembly where debris is separated from the fluids and collected, before cleaned fluids are circulated out of the wellbore. The components of the debris collection assembly are substantially modular, and can be run in combination with conventional wellbore cleaning tools (such as, for example, workstring-conveyed brushes, scrapers and/or magnets).
