  • Patent number: 5308019
Abstract: A level-wind mechanism in a fishing reel of the multiplier type is, as a one-piece unit, removable from and insertable in the fishing reel frame which has two side members. This unit consists of a sleeve having a longitudinal slot, an endless screw rotatably mounted in the sleeve, a level-wind mounted on the sleeve and having a groove-follower pin which via the slot in the sleeve meshes with the endless screw in order, during rotation thereof, to move the level-wind back and forth along the sleeve, and a member for preventing the level-wind from being rotated on the sleeve. The frame has a recess in each side member. The unit is inserted in these recesses such that its sleeve extends parallel to the line-spool shaft while resting on the bottom of the recesses. The unit is retained in the recesses by means of projections on two side covers mounted on a respective side member. A radial projection is provided for preventing the sleeve from being rotated in the recesses.

  • Patent number: 5297757
Abstract: A fishing reel has a frame and a line spool rotatably mounted therein. The frame has a side plate with a circumferential flange formed with a circumferentially directed slot. A buzzer meachnism is mounted in the fishing reel. The buzzer mechanism has a gear wheel non-rotatably connected to the line spool, a trigger mounted on the circumferential flange, and a U-shaped spring leaf, one leg of which is connected to the trigger. The trigger is displaceable along the slot in the circumferential flange between a first position, in which it maintains the other leg of the spring leaf in engagement with the gear wheel so as to produce a buzzing sound when the line spool rotates, and a second position, in which it maintains the other leg of the leaf spring out of engagement with the gear wheel.

  • Patent number: 5294074
Abstract: A line-protecting element for use in a fishing reel having a line spool with at least one circular end wall, and a component with a circular-cylindrical surface enclosing the end wall at a radial distance therefrom, is to be mounted on the end wall to bridge the distance between this wall and the enclosing surface in order, when using the fishing reel, to prevent a line wound on the line spool from being wedged between the end wall and the enclosing surface. The line-protecting element consists of a ring of low-friction material having substantially radially projecting tongues distributed along the circumference of the ring. The tongues are so dimensioned as to be easily flexible in the circumferential direction of the ring, but rigid in its axial direction. The outer radius of the ring is smaller than the radius of the enclosing surface, whereas the radius at the free ends of the tongues is greater than the radius of the enclosing surface.

  • Patent number: 5261628
Abstract: An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a rotor, a line spool coaxial with the rotor, and a bail for winding a line on the spool. Two attachments are provided on the rotor. Two mounting elements carrying the bail are so rotatably mounted on a respective attachment that the bail is pivotable about a bail axis perpendicular to the rotor axis, between a folded-in line-winding position and a folded-out position in which it is released of the line. One attachment has an open chamber. The damping device has an elastic damping element provided in the chamber under one mounting element which has a lug for cooperating with the damping element. The damping element and the lug are so positioned that the lug, when the bail is pivoted from its folded-out position to its folded-in line-winding position, engages the damping element in order, during the final phase of the pivotal movement, to compress the damping element so as to bring about a gentle braking of the rotational movement.

  • Patent number: 5167381
Abstract: An oscillating mechanism in a fixed-spool fishing reel of the closed-face type has a supporting plate mounted in the frame of the fishing reel. The reel has a handle whose shaft extends through the supporting plate. A first gear is nonrotatably connected to the shaft of the handle. A second gear is supported by the supporting plate and meshes with the first gear. The second gear has a smaller diameter than the first gear and carries an eccentric pin. A slide is connected to the line spool of the fishing reel for oscillating the line spool when the handle is turned. The slide has an elongate recess in which the eccentric pin engages for oscillating the slide and, hence, the line spool when the handle is turned. The slide further has a guide slot in which the shaft of the handle engages as a guide pin.

  • Patent number: 5158245
Abstract: A fishing reel of the multiplier type has a frame and a shaft extending through the frame and carrying a rotatable line spool. A clutch member is mounted on the shaft to be shifted between a coupling position, in which it engages the line spool for rotating it, and a neutral position, in which it is disengaged from the spool. A mounting plate carried by the frame has a plurality of mounting pins parallel to the shaft. The mounting plate carries on these pins a clutch mechanism having a yoke in which the clutch member is rotatably mounted and which is displaceably mounted on two of the mounting pins for shifting the clutch member between its two positions. A spring presses the yoke in such a direction that the clutch member is urged towards its coupling position. A link arm is pivotally mounted at one end on one of the mounting pins and has at its other end a pivot pin on which a U-shaped member is pivotally mounted. The link arm is pivotable by a trigger.

  • Patent number: 4927094
Abstract: An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type has a housing and a spindle rotatably and axially displaceably mounted therein. A line spool is non-rotatably connected to the spindle and axially fixed to one end thereof. A drive shaft is mounted in the housing and extends at right angles to the spindle. A handle is arranged for rotating the drive shaft and a driving gear non-rotatably mounted thereon. A driver element is axially fixed on the spindle. An oscillating gear meshes with the driving gear and has an eccentric pin engaging the driver element in order, upon rotation of the drive shaft, to move the spindle back and forth in its longitudinal direction and, thus, oscillate the line spool about a center of oscillation.

  • Patent number: 4834307
Abstract: A fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a frame and a spool shaft rotatably mounted therein. A line spool is non-rotatably mounted on the end of the spool shaft projecting from the frame. The reel has a transmission for changing the movement of a handle, both into a rotary movement of a rotor for winding up a line on the line spool and into a movement of an eccentric device for axial oscillation of the spool shaft. The reel further has an adjustable friction brake intended to allow the line spool to rotate under frictional drag in relation to the frame. Further, the fishing reel has a friction brake release device which is operated by the handle and which, when the handle is turned backwards (in a direction contrary to the direction of retrieve), acts on the preset friction brake so that it can be released and thereafter readily reengaged.

  • Patent number: 4830307
Abstract: A dragging device in a fishing reel of the fixed-spool type having a housing accommodating a spool shaft rotatably mounted therein. A line spool is non-rotatably mounted on the end of the spool shaft projecting from the reel housing. The reel also comprises a transmission for transforming the movement of a handle into a movement of rotation of a member for winding up the fishing line on the line spool.
