First, a request is received from a user to access a tax service server utilizing a network. Next, a user is allowed access to the tax service server utilizing the network after a validation process. An identity of the user is then determined based on the request and/or the validation process. Thereafter, a plurality of forms with fields are displayed utilizing the network. At least a portion of the fields are filled based on the identity of the user. Additional data is subsequently received from the user for filling the fields utilizing the network. Further, a tax amount is calculated based on the received data and business rules. Further, the tax amount is displayed utilizing the network.

Requirement-indicating data is obtained from a first entity with respect to a transactional subject. The transactional subject may refer to the provision of a material, a good, a service, or any combination of the foregoing items. The obtained requirement-indicating data is automatically transmitted from the first business entity to a second business entity over a communications network. The transmitted requirement-indicating data is automatically fed into an electronic processor associated with the second business entity. A business decision of the second business entity is generated based on the requirement-indicating data.

Abstract: A computer program is provided for developing component based software capable of handling insurance-related tasks. The program includes a data component that stores, retrieves and manipulates data utilizing a plurality of functions. Also provided is a client component that includes an adapter component that transmits and receives data to/from the data component. The client component also includes a business component that serves as a data cache and includes logic for manipulating the data. A controller component is also included which is adapted to handle events generated by a user utilizing the business component to cache data and the adapter component to ultimately persist data to a data repository. In use, the client component is suitable for receiving a plurality of tasks that achieve an insurance-related goal upon completion, allowing users to add new tasks that achieve the goal upon completion, allowing the users to edit the tasks, and generating a historical record of the tasks that are completed.

Abstract: A method and system for use by a Customs Agency for clearing shipments of goods into a country is disclosed. A customs resource application may be used to integrate alert information, news, research, and communications capabilities. Customs inspectors may use the resource application with a conventional computer, or with a portable device in the field as they perform customs inspections. The portable device provides access to alert information regarding shipments that are to be inspected by the inspector, and provides alert resolution capabilities so that the inspector can clear shipments into the country from the location of the inspection and/or shipped goods without requiring the inspector to return to a field office to clear the goods.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system for and a method of automatically generating personal homepages accessible through the Internet. The method includes entering data indicative of the identity of a salesperson, harvesting personal data associated with the identified salesperson from a human resource database, and automatically generating a personal homepage by populating the template with the personal data. Preferably, the homepage is automatically disabled when data from the human resource database indicates that the person is no longer employed with the organization. The system includes an application server linked to a database of personal data of the sales force members. The application server includes a homepage template. Personal data is available in the database to be communicated to the application server to automatically populate the homepage template when requested, thereby generating a personal homepage for the member for viewing on an Internet.

A server includes a first set of ports for communication between an external communications network and the server. The server has a second set of ports for communications between an internal communications network and the server. A first firewall is interposed between the server and the external communications network. The first firewall is coupled to the first set of ports to provide at least one interconnection between the first set of ports and the external communications network. A second firewall is interposed between the server and the internal communications network. In one embodiment, the second firewall is coupled to the second set of ports to provide in a nonnegative integer number of interconnections between the second of set ports and the internal communications network.

Abstract: An environment services architecture for a netcentric computing system is disclosed by the present invention. The environment services architecture includes runtime services for converting non-compiled computer languages into machine code during the execution of an application on the netcentric computing system. System services perform system-level functions in the netcentric computing system are also provided that may be selected from the group consisting of system security services, profile management services, task and memory management services and environment verification services. In addition, the environment services architecture also includes application services for performing common functions in the netcentric computing system. A component framework service provides components of the netcentric computing system with a standard infrastructure for allowing an application running on components to communicate within and across applications in the netcentric computing system.

An acceptance of a respective offer made by the consumer is then processed by the location-based services system and information is stored about the transaction in a usage data file or database.

Abstract: A messaging and alerting service is described. An implementation includes enrolling a customer in the messaging and alert service, storing a list of businesses selected by the customer, storing a customer contact hierarchy list, and contacting the customer according to the contact hierarchy list. The messaging and alerting service enables real-time, interactive alerts to be delivered to customers in the customer's preferred media. In addition, customers may respond to the alerts to provide important directions to a business.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for detecting emotional states using statistics. First, a speech signal is received. At least one acoustic parameter is extracted from the speech signal. Then statistics or features from samples of the voice are calculated from extracted speech parameters. The features serve as inputs to a classifier, which can be a computer program, a device or both. The classifier assigns at least one emotional state from a finite number of possible emotional states to the speech signal. The classifier also estimates the confidence of its decision. Features that are calculated may include a maximum value of a fundamental frequency, a standard deviation of the fundamental frequency, a range of the fundamental frequency, a mean of the fundamental frequency, and a variety of other statistics.

Abstract: A system, method and article of manufacture are provided for recognizing voice commands for manipulating data on the Internet. Data is provided on a website. Voice signals are received from a user who is accessing the website, which are interpreted to determine navigation commands. Selected data of the website is output based on the navigation commands. In one embodiment of the present invention, the data includes a voice-activated application. The user may be allowed to access the website from either a computer or a telephone, or both. A language may be determined from the voice signals and the voice signals interpreted in the language being spoken by the user.

Abstract: A computerized system for performing predictive maintenance on an item of equipment includes a desired configuration database, an actual configuration database and a data processor. The data processor determines if an actual configuration complies with a desired configuration. The data processor determines an upgrade requirement for upgrading the actual configuration to the desired configuration if the actual configuration is noncompliant. The data processor further defines an interim solution that eliminates delay in the execution of the upgrade requirement on the item of equipment.
