Abstract: A vehicle for temporary support of intermodal cargo containers, especially a trailer for a tractor/trailer rig, has deployable locating pins placed centrally along the length of a chassis, for locating containers placed end-to-end. The locating pins center containers of different lengths relative to the chassis, which is long enough to accommodate the longest standard length of container or two short containers. The locating pins are resiliently mounted such that a long container or misplaced containers that are set down on the pins, cause the pins to be depressed into the chassis. Stop pins define an endpoint for an end of a container, and two resiliently mounted engagement pins on each side, are positioned for engaging the corner fittings of intermodal containers when abutted against the locating pins.

Abstract: A plural container trailer has hydraulic systems for loading, unloading, and otherwise handling removable containers. The trailer has a bed long enough to carry two containers in line. The trailer has an undercarriage carrying a rear tilt frame. A forward mounted cable and winch system operates over the rear tilt frame to pull a first or forward container from the ground fully to a front docking position on the trailer bed. The forward cable remains connected to the forward container and it is not necessary to disengage a rear pulling mechanism and recouple the container to a front pulling mechanism. A second container-hoisting system loads and unloads a second container between the ground and the tilt frame. A slider mechanism engages against the front wall of the first container, and is moved forward as the first container is moved toward the front docking position.

Abstract: A trailer for transporting roll-off containers is disclosed wherein a special trailer is fabricated with longitudinally extending main rails and a plurality of inside rollers and outside rollers rotatively affixed to the main rails. The main rails terminate rearwardly in an angularly declined unloading ramp, which ramp terminates in spaced relation above the road surface. A plurality of six roll-off containers are stacked to form two similar nests of three containers each, with the lowermost container of each nest oriented in horizontal alignment. The two nests of containers are placed upon the trailer in longitudinal juxtaposition in a location wherein the bottom rails of the lowermost containers rest upon either the inside or outside rollers.

Abstract: A method for unloading a plurality of roll-off containers from a special trailer is disclosed. A plurality of six roll-off containers are stacked to form two similar nests of at least two containers each, with the lowermost container of each nest oriented in horizontal alignment and having its bottom rail resting upon the rollers of the trailer. The two nests of containers are placed upon the trailer in longitudinal juxtaposition for transportation purposes. Upon reaching the destination, the two nests of containers are unloaded by a single driver without requiring any external, additional equipment. During unloading, the trailer is backed and suddenly stopped in repeated stages to employ inertial forces to move the nests of containers relative to the trailer until the nests of containers travel the length of the trailer and drop upon the ground.
