  • Patent number: 6195073
Abstract: The present invention relates to a plasma generation method of a plasma display panel. The plasma display panel comprises a first substrate and a second substrate positioned in parallel with each other, an ionizable gas filled between the two substrates, and a plurality of first, second, third and fourth electrodes installed on the two substrates. The first and second electrodes are alternately installed in parallel on the first substrate. The third electrodes are installed on the second substrate perpendicular to the first and second electrodes. An area between one of the third electrodes and a pair of neighboring first and second electrodes define a display unit for generating plasma from the ionizable gas in the display unit and driving the plasma. The third electrode of each display unit is used for determining if the plasma within the display unit should remain.

  • Patent number: 6150767
Abstract: A plasma display panel (PDP) includes M address electrodes, N scan electrodes and N common electrodes orthogonal to the M address electrodes. The present invention is to provide with a common driving circuit for providing the N scan electrodes with a driving voltage. During a discharge sustain period of the PDP, the discharge sustain pulses pass through only essential function means rather than unnecessary function means in the common driving circuit, and thereby unnecessary power consumption occurring in the common driving circuit can be avoided. Low power consumption in the common driving circuit can reduce the heat accumulation in the PDP to assure the display quality of the PDP and alleviate the design regarding heat sink for the PDP.

  • Patent number: 6113449
Abstract: A front plate for a plasma display panel (PDP) and its modified fabricating method are provided using a backside exposure process and an appropriate processing sequence rearrangement to reduce the number of photomasks required and improve the accuracy of exposure and developing process. First, a light-shielding layer is patterned by performing a mesh printing process, or by performing an exposure and developing process using a first photomask, so as to form a light-shielding structure including black stripes and transparent electrodes' gaps. Next, using the light-shielding structure as a mask, a backside exposure and developing process as well as an etching process is performed to form a plurality of pairs of transparent electrodes on the substrate. Then, using a second photomask, another set of exposure, developing and etching processes are performed to form a plurality of pairs of metal electrodes on the corresponding transparent electrodes.
