Abstract: A non-particulate substrate having adhered thereto a coating composition comprising the reaction product of a transition metal compound such as niobium and a transition metal having electrons in the f orbital, and a silicon-containing material such as an organosilane or an organo(poly)siloxane. Reaction of the silicon-containing material with the transition metal compound results in a better adhering coating to the substrate than a comparable coating prepared from the silicon-containing material itself.

Abstract: An applicator comprises an applicator tip fixed to a housing. Contained within the housing is a flowable hydrophobic composition of a metal silicon complex. The hydrophobic composition is applied to a surface by rubbing the applicator tip across the surface.

Abstract: Hybrid devices, such as optically erasable memory cells and light sensors, and related methods are disclosed. In some embodiments, a device includes a structure capable of converting between a first resistance state and a second resistance state, and a light source configured to convert the structure from the first resistance state to the second resistance state. The structure includes an organic first material and a second material different from the first material.
