    Abstract: A digital palette and a digital pen device are used to create or manipulate a digital document to provide complex information using features, such as graphical features selected from stencils, shapes, and connectors and possibly to apply one or more attributes to the digital document. The digital palette may have a custom layout. The features on the digital palette may be selected from a variety of sources, such as digital stencil libraries. The digital palette and digital document may be arranged on the same or different sheets of digital paper overlying one or more digital patterns. Information communicated from the digital palette to the digital document may be uploaded, processed, reviewed, changed and stored in a computer. Lastly, the digital document may be finalized and printed to incorporate all changes previously made using the digital palette, the digital pen device and the computer.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for printer optimization. A method for optimizing a readable dot pattern printed on paper for use with a digital pen is disclosed herein. A test sheet is printed on a selected printer; the first test sheet has a plurality of regions. Each of the regions has a partial digital pattern configured with digitally readable indicia. Each of the indicia has a defined area. An outline is applied to each of the plurality of regions on the test sheet. Ink is applied onto the digital paper using a digital pen within the applied outlines. Data is uploaded from the digital pen to a processor. The smallest indicia readable by the digital pen are determined. A printer control file is updated with the determined smallest indicia.

In addition, the carrier may include a lower lid that may be opened to provide access to an electronic package. In one embodiment, an extendable serial communication device may be extended from the electronic package when the lower lid is open. Further, the carrier is configured to sufficiently protect the digital pen from harsh environmental conditions and even from harsh user-induced conditions, such as drops onto a hard surface, exposure of the carrier to rain, dust, and sand particulate, brief water submersion, and even temperature extremes.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for print coating de-saturation. An embodiment of the present invention relates to a method and system for controlling the output of a printer. When content is transmitted to a printer to be printed on a surface with a location-encoding pattern, the pattern is generally printed in a material different from the content material. By way of example, the content is generally transmitted in the CMYK color spectrum. The Key or black value is translated into the CMY values resulting in the K or black value being zero. The system and method alter the C, M, and Y values of the content such that it is ensured that no conversion occurs which would cause the Key color to be used in printing the content. The adjusted output is then sent to the printer.

The optical window and optic channel to the camera is protected by a durable and replaceable light-transmitting shield that provides a sealed barrier to the environmental elements harmful to the functioning of the device. The writing and sketching device oscillates between a stowed and a deployed state. The deployed state includes the camera being in view the writing surface and the stowed state includes the camera being either masked from viewing the writing surface or aimed internally from viewing the writing surface.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for determining an object location relative to a digital document are disclosed herein. A marking is applied to at least one cell in at least one row and to at least one cell in at least one column of a digital document. The markings define an axis system for the digital document. Each object has a stored digital address within the digital document. When the digital document is converted into a fixed file format, a location of the object can be determined that will match the location of the object on the printed page. By comparing the digital address of the object to the axis system defined by the markings, after the document has been converted to a fixed document format, the location of the object is defined spatially.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for error checking an entry converted from digital ink to text are disclosed herein. A method for reviewing digital pen data comprising importing handwritten ink made with a digital pen into an input region of a form. The handwritten ink is interpreted to produce a typographical symbol in the input region. The interpretation producing the typographical symbol is assigned a confidence factor, the confidence factor defining the likelihood that the conversion was correct. Input areas are highlighted if they have a confidence factor below a threshold value. Further, a view of the handwritten ink relative to the typographical symbol is changed by making one of the ink or the symbol more viewably prominent while simultaneously making the other less viewably prominent.

    Abstract: A system for administering a neuropsychological test using a digital pen and paper system includes various recognition modules for interpreting ink markings applied by the digital pen to a digital testing document. The recognition modules may interpret handwriting, symbols, sketches, etc. In addition, the system may include one or more error correction modules for detecting and correcting test-taker-driven errors or recognition-driven errors. The error correction module may operate in real time to communicate with the test taker, may be employed before a normalizing and scoring process or some combination of both. In one embodiment, normalized data or automatically determined test scores obtained after appropriate correction may be transmitted to a patient record or file to await a review and possible diagnosis by a mental health provider.
