Patent number: 5829405Abstract: A method of making a cylinder liner for an internal-combustion engine includes the steps of applying a liner material to an outer cylindrical surface of a mandrel by thermal spraying for forming a coherent cylindrical sleeve on the mandrel; and removing the cylindrical sleeve from the mandrel. The cylindrical sleeve constitutes the cylinder liner.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Peter Godel

Patent number: 5775978Abstract: A method and tool for fine machining an outside circumferential surface of radially outwardly expanded, ring-shaped workpieces having respective holes therein, the workpieces being combined to form a stack. The tool includes a clamping arrangement for clamping the stack; a pair of segments disposed adjacent the clamping arrangement, each of the segments having a segment surface defining a predetermined radius of curvature corresponding approximately to a nominal radius of curvature of each of the workpieces; and a grinding belt arrangement disposed adjacent the segment surfaces. The segments are moved into a processing position wherein the radii of curvature of respective ones of the segment surfaces share a common center point, the step of moving the segments including the step of advancing the segments toward the stack such that the grinding belt arrangement is brought into grinding contact with the stack and thereby assumes a contour of the segment surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventors: Manfred Brocksieper, Eberhard Schneider

Patent number: 5762343Abstract: A slide ring seal assembly includes a slide ring member and a counterring member adjoining the slide ring member in axial alignment therewith. A force-exerting arrangement which axially resiliently presses the two ring members to one another includes a first resilient sealing ring being coaxial with and engaging one of the ring members; and a second resilient sealing ring being coaxial with and engaging the other of the ring members. The first and second sealing rings are in a radial alignment with one another and are stressed by clamping arrangements, so that the sealing rings exert axial forces on the two ring members, pressing them together. At least the first sealing ring and the first clamping arrangement are so designed that the axial restoring force generated by virtue of the deformation of the first sealing ring seeks to reduce the axial dimension of the resiliently deformed first sealing ring. Such an axial restoring force constitutes the axial pressing force exerted by the first sealing ring.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Hans-Henning Zutz

Patent number: 5701802Abstract: An engine piston includes a piston head; a first bearing block forming a one-piece component with the piston head and having a first bearing face; a piston skirt being a component separate from the piston head; a second bearing block forming a one-piece component with the piston skirt and having a second bearing face; and a coupling device for interconnecting the piston head and the piston skirt and for interconnecting the first and second bearing blocks with one another. The first and second bearing faces complement one another to form a bearing for rotatably supporting a connecting rod.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Klaus Junge

Patent number: 5673921Abstract: A slide ring unit includes a slide ring having first and second opposite axial ends. The slide ring further has a sealing face at the first axial end and a conical circumferential surface for supporting an elastic rolling body thereon. The circumferential surface tapers from the sealing face toward the second axial end. The slide ring unit further has a stop for axially retaining the rolling body on the circumferential surface of the slide ring. The stop forms a component separate from the slide ring and adjoins the slide ring at the second axial end thereof. The stop has an outer circumferential surface terminating at and flush with the conical circumferential surface of the slide ring at the second axial end thereof. Further, a securing arrangement is provided for attaching the stop to the slide ring.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1996Date of Patent: October 7, 1997Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Hans-Henning Zutz

Patent number: 5642890Abstract: A slide ring seal assembly includes a slide ring having a slide face for engaging a slide face of an additional slide ring and a plastic part having a conical face. An annular elastic body surrounds and engages the conical face and is adapted to be compressed, in an installed state, by the conical face and a face of a machine component. An annular sealing body is formed on the plastic part as a one-piece, integral member therewith for sealingly contacting a machine component in the installed state.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1996Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Hans-Henning Zutz

Patent number: 5560621Abstract: A slide ring seal assembly includes first and second machine components each having an annular clamping face coaxial with the rotary axis of the assembly; and first and second slide rings including respective inner and outer peripheral clamping faces each surrounding the assembly axis. The slide rings together define an annular sliding surface surrounding the assembly axis. First and second elastic sealing rings are compressed between the respective clamping faces of the machine components and the slide rings. The first sealing ring and the clamping face of the first machine component together define a first sealing area and the second sealing ring and the clamping face of the second slide ring together define a second sealing area. Each sealing area is bordered by a boundary line distal from the annular sliding surface and by a boundary line proximal to the annular sliding surface.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1995Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Assignee: AE Goetze GmbHInventor: Hans-Henning Zutz
