Abstract: The polymer films of the invention contain reactive groups and are obtained from phenols of the formula ##STR1## in which R denotes an acyl group with 1 to 7 carbon atoms, a hydroxy, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, amino, alkylamino or phenylamino group, andn is an integer, which may be 0 in the case where R is an acyl group.The films are prepared by electrolytic polymerisation on metallic surfaces and can be used to graft various materials reacting therewith, as intermediate layers.

Abstract: Glasses containing fluorine. These glasses are characterized by the fact that they contain at least 25% in moles, approximately, of a fluoride or a mixture of fluorides MX(X.sub.1).sub.2, in which:X and X.sub.1 each represent a fluorine atom,and M then represents a metal chosen from among the group consisting ofgallium, iron, chromium, vanadium, indium, and the rare earths,or X represents an oxygen atom,X.sub.1 represents a fluorine atom,and M then represents a titanium atom, it being understood that the said glasses contain no hydrofluoric acid as a network former and that, in the case in which M represents a gallium or indium atom, the glasses do not contain more than 15% in moles of BaPO.sub.3 F.Application notably in obtaining glasses containing various cations conferring particular optical or magneto-optical properties.

Abstract: A highly luminous device for interferential spectrometry, comprises a birefringent beam-splitting interferometer combined with an optical system supplying localized fringes. As the beam-splitter element, it has at least one birefringent prism mounted along the optical axis of the device and producing an angular splitting, such as a Wollaston prism, of materials suitable for the construction of such prisms and selected as a function of birefringence and transparent over a wide range of wave lengths. The beam-splitter is placed between a polarizer and an analyzer of variable orientation to obtain flux modulation.

Abstract: Apparatus for determining rheological parameters of viscoelastic fluids is provided. The apparatus comprises two similar cylinder-piston assemblies ending at identical flow orifices. The pistons are pushed conjointly by a motor at an adjusted speed. A differential manometer is arranged between the cylinders immediately upstream of the orifices. One of the cylinders contains fluid to be studied and the other a Newtonian comparison fluid. The strain rates of the fluids are defined by the adjusted flow rates, and the pressure differential expresses elongation stress of the viscoelastic fluid. This apparatus is applicable in the rheological study of dilute solutions of macromolecular compositions.

Abstract: A tube of flexible material moving longitudinally undergoes transition between annular cross section and flattened straight cross section, without change in the length of perimeter of its cross sections, by one stage of changing between the annular cross section and a rectangular cross section, and another stage of changing between that rectangular cross section and the flattened cross section through successively longer and narrower rectangular cross sections. The method is applicable to material produced by a circular knitting machine. Preferably there is a polyhedral guide within the tube.

Abstract: New organo-lithium initiators, their synthesis, and their use. The initiators have the formula: ##STR1## in which R" is either a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical; either n is 1, in which case R'=H and m and p are integers, the sum of which is between 0 and 10 inclusive, or n is 2, R' then being an alkyl radical of 2 to 8 carbon atoms and m=p=o; and R is an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.The initiators are prepared by reacting compounds of the formula; ##STR2## with an alkyl-lithium RLi in a non-polar solvent in the absence of any polar solvent or complexing agent.The initiators are used to prepare polydienes of high stereoregularity by reacting with a diene, and the polydiene is used to prepare a three-block or star copolymer by reacting with an anionically polymerizable monomer.

Abstract: The invention provides a small-size hermetic refrigeration stage containing helium 3 and easily incorporated in a conventional helium 4 metal cryostat.The stage consists essentially of a metallic enclosure containing a certain volume of helium 3 and having a first receptacle constituting the pumping chamber and consisting a mass of an adsorbing body for the helium 3 at a very low temperature, a second receptacle constituting a condenser for the cooled helium 3 and a duct.The stage of the invention is particularly suited for maintaining the sensitive element of an infrared detector at a temperature of less than 1.degree. K.
