  • Patent number: 4345329
Abstract: A magnetic field having an alternate component in a predetermined direction is produced in a zone and electrons are injected into this zone perpendicularly to said direction. To this end a winding is connected to a source for supplying current pulses having a predetermined duration. A split tube is placed coaxially within the winding and has an inner wall which provides periodic or nearly periodic variations. The split tube is formed of material having good electrical conductivity and has a skin thickness which is considerably smaller than the tube thickness at the frequency corresponding to the reciprocal of the time-duration of the current pulses.

  • Patent number: 4328707
Abstract: Reconstruction of two-dimensional distribution of attenuation coefficients or sound velocities in a cross-sectional plane of an object is achieved by carrying out a plurality of measurements of absorption or of flight time with ultrasound bursts directed by elementary transmitting probes along several different incidences in the sectional plane. Switching between successive measurements is carried out by electronic scanning, without movement of the individual probes. Focusing of the burst energy transmitted by a group of probes is achieved by applying a same electrical signal to the probes with appropriate delays. The secured signals are stored and, after completion of the scanning, they are combined for computation of the distribution.

  • Patent number: 4317038
Abstract: The spatial distribution of mono-energetic x-rays from a point source, is determined by a device which comprises a gas filled enclosure having a flat radiation entrance window. Flat electrodes establish an electrical field of such amplitude that there occurs conversion of said radiation into photo electrons and avalanche electron multiplication resulting in delivery of a burst or pulse of electrons per conversion whose height is an increasing function of the travel path of the electrons avalanche from the location of the conversion event to the planar outlet electrode. A detector located in a second portion of the enclosure receives the pulse of electrons and determines the coordinates and the pulse height of the pulse.
