  • Patent number: 7070553
Abstract: In a method of rapidly lowering the rotary speed of a rotating rotor body in a centrifugal separator the lowering of the rotary speed is initiated, when a disturbing unbalance or vibrations have occurred. A space between the rotor body and a stationary casing which surrounds the rotor body is supplied with foam or with an aerosol of a liquid in a gas, when unbalance or vibrations over a certain level have occurred. The rotor body is retarded by the friction, which is obtained between the rotor body, the foam or aerosol and the casing. In an arrangement to lower the rotary speed of a rotating rotor body in a centrifugal separator the lowering is initiated when a disturbing unbalance or disturbing vibrations has occurred. At a certain unbalance or certain vibration level, a foam generating device or a device that creates an aerosol for the purpose of filling a space between the rotor body and a casing which surrounds the same with foam or aerosol is activated.

  • Patent number: 6976948
Abstract: A method for adjusting an interface formed during operation between a specific light liquid phase and a specific heavier liquid phase to a wanted radial level in a centrifugal separator, in which the separation chamber is emptied of its contents and the inlet opening is brought to a radial inner position in the outlet chamber, after which a pre-determined volume of the specific heavier liquid phase is supplied to the separation chamber and the mixture of the two liquid phases is supplied to the separation chamber via the supply conduit and the inlet chamber whereby the separation chamber is filled up and an interface between the two liquid phases is formed, which is displaced radial outwardly, the displaced specific heavier liquid phase then being pressed radial inwardly in the outlet channel and further into the outlet chamber.

  • Patent number: 6955637
Abstract: In a separation device for separating particles from a liquid, which is present in a container, a centrifugal rotor is rotatable around a vertical rotational axis. The centrifugal rotor has a tubular inlet member, which extends down into liquid to be treated and which upon rotation of the centrifugal rotor forms a pumping member adapted to pump liquid upwardly and into the centrifugal rotor. The rotatable inlet member is surrounded by a non-rotatable wall, a sealing device being adapted to seal between the rotatable inlet member and the non-rotatable wall. Thereby is avoided that liquid is pumped upwardly on the outside of the inlet member. Furthermore, a smallest possible part of the outside of the inlet member can be in contact with liquid, independent of the level of the liquid surface in the container.

  • Patent number: 6837842
Abstract: An indication device indicates an undesired operation condition of a centrifugal separator and comprises an inlet valve situated in a supply conduit to the separator, and an outlet valve situated in an outlet conduit from the separator. During normal operation of the separator the valves are adjusted in open normal valve positions for passing normal flows through the supply and outlet conduits. A control unit is adapted to activate a signal generator to generate an error signal in response to a pressure sensor if the pressure sensor during a predetermined period of time during operation of the separator senses a course of pressure change in the outlet conduit different from an expected normal course of pressure change, when the inlet and outlet valves during predetermined period of time are adjusted in valve positions which at least substantially decreases the flows in the supply and outlet conduits from the normal flows.

  • Patent number: 6821319
Abstract: In connection with cleaning of gas from particles suspended therein and being heavier than the gas the gas is caused to rotate in a chamber delimited in a stationary housing, so that the particles by centrifugal force are separated from the gas and are thrown towards a stationary housing. The rotation of the gas is accomplished by means of a rotor, which includes a stack of conical separation discs arranged coaxially with each other and concentrically with the rotational axis of the rotor. The gas to be cleaned is caused to flow through interspaces between the separation discs, while they are rotating, the particles by the centrifugal force being brought into contact with the insides of the separation discs. In contact with the insides of the separation discs the particles first move along the generatrices of the separation discs and then move along inclined guiding members, which are arranged in contact with said insides.

  • Patent number: 6802804
Abstract: To clean a relatively heavy liquid from small amounts of relatively light liquid the liquids are first introduced into a container, in which the light liquid is allowed to collect on the surface of the heavy liquid. A surface layer of the liquid body in the container, constituting a mixture of the two liquids, is caused to flow over an overflow outlet member into a collecting chamber. From the collecting chamber the liquid mixture is pumped further into a centrifugal separator, wherein the relatively light liquid is separated from the relatively heavy liquid. According to the invention the liquid mixture is pumped from the collecting chamber to the centrifugal separator through a pumping member, which is connected with a rotor of the centrifugal separator and, thus, rotates therewith.

  • Patent number: 6716153
Abstract: In a decanter centrifuge having a rotor and a screw conveyor the rotor is suspended only at its one end, the rotational axis of the rotor extending vertically. The inlet of the rotor for a sludge containing liquid to be separated as well as the rotor outlet for liquid having been freed from sludge are situated at the upper end of the rotor, whereas a sludge outlet for separated sludge is situated at the lower end of the rotor. The rotor as well as the screw conveyor are adapted to be driven through shafts situated at the upper end of the rotor. By the invention it becomes possible by simple implementation to adapt the decanter centrifuge for different separation duties, since the location of the sludge outlet can be chosen freely without other parts of the decanter centrifuge preventing this.
