  • Patent number: 5465886
Abstract: A pack includes a bag and a belt attached to the bag for releasably securing the pack around the torso of a person. The belt has a first flexible belt portion extending from the bag at one side of the torso of the person and terminating at a free end, and a second flexible belt portion extending from the bag at the other side of the torso of the person and terminating at a free end. A connecting device on each flexible belt portion releasably connects the belt portions to secure the belt around the torso of the person. The connecting device on the first belt portion is movable longitudinally along the length of the first belt portion for shortening and lengthening the first belt portion when tightening the belt about the person's torso. The pack further has a rigid loop affixed to the pack adjacent to the first belt portion.

  • Patent number: 5421355
Abstract: A tent assembly capable of assuming multiple configurations includes a shell having side walls made of flexible material in which at least a portion of the flexible material is water vapor permeable, a fly of flexible water impermeable material and a frame to support the shell in a first erect configuration in which the shell substantially encloses a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants and the shell is not covered by the fly. The frame is further capable of supporting the shell and fly in a second erect configuration in which the shell encloses a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants and the fly canopies the shell to prevent substantial moisture from falling on the shell. Moreover, the frame is capable of supporting the fly in a third erect configuration in which the fly is suspended over and shelters a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants.

  • Patent number: 5080119
Abstract: A tent comprising a fabric shell supported by a skeleton frame having at least two criss-crossing ribs. The tent has first and second criss-crossing sleeves for receiving the ribs. Each sleeve defines a closed, uninterrupted passage having at least one open end for the continuous, uninterrupted insertion of a respective rib into the sleeve. At least one of the sleeves is positioned below one of the other sleeves at the location where the sleeves criss-cross so that the passages defined by the sleeves do not intersect. The improvement comprises the sleeves being secured in fixed position relative to one another generally at the location where their respective ribs criss-cross thereby to stabilize the sleeves relative to one another and to the shell.

  • Patent number: 4884303
Abstract: A sleeping bag comprising a pad and a cover with the cover comprising an upper and a lower section each comprising a layer of cushiony thermal insulation material, and an intermediate section comprising a layer of elastically stretchable material sandwiched between said upper and lower sections of the cover extending from one side of the cover to the other and secured at the side margins thereof to the cover, said intermediate elastically stretchable layer being operable to draw the lower section against the user in the bag to maintain the lower section in relatively close form-fitting relation to the user.

  • Patent number: 4842173
Abstract: A backpack frame of the present invention comprises a pair of spaced apart side frame members, a first cross plate member extending between the side frame members having a plurality of generally parallel slots therein extending in side-to-side direction with respect to the frame and spaced at intervals heightwise of the frame, a pair of shoulder straps for the frame having a first pair of loops attached thereto. Each loop of the pair is selectively insertable through one of the slots in the first cross plate member according to the desired heightwise position of the respective shoulder strap relative to the frame and is movable along the slot to a desired lateral position of the shoulder strap relative to the frame. A clip is provided for retaining each loop in the selected slot in the desired lateral position.

  • Patent number: 4827958
Abstract: A tent comprising a plurality of walls, a roof and a frame system for holding the tent erect. The frame system comprises at least two frame structures, each being of generally inverted U-shape when erect and comprising a pair of substantially rigid poles extending up from the ground adjacent respective walls of the tent and a flexible resilient ridge frame member bent into an arched configuration and having ends telescopically interfitted with the upper ends of the poles. The resilient ridge frame members support the roof of the tent in an arched configuration generally corresponding to the arched configuration of the ridge frame members.

  • Patent number: 4745936
Abstract: A tent having a plurality of sleeve(s) each of which, on erection of the tent, extends in an arch from one point adjacent the lower edge of the tent to an opposite point adjacent the lower edge. Each sleeve is closed at one end thereof and open at its other end for the insertion therein of a flexible, resilient rod for holding the tent erect with the rod curved into an arch and holding the sleeve in an arch. The tent has at the open end of each sleeve a strap extending out from the open end of the sleeve, the strap being formed at its outer end with a rod-end-receiving pocket. The pocket is spaced from the open end of the sleeve for the insertion of the rod into the sleeve through the open end of the sleeve and for bending of the rod and insertion of its end extending out of the open end of the sleeve means into the pocket to hold the rod bent into an arch. The pocket is at one face of the strap.
