  • Patent number: 7086157
Abstract: A folding knife according to one embodiment is provided and includes (a) a handle defining a blade cavity; (b) a blade having a first end which is pivotably coupled to the handle about a pivot; and (c) a biasing element disposed within the blade cavity of the handle. The blade has a detent formed therein on a lower edge thereof proximate to the pivot. The biasing element has a fixed first end and an opposing free second end which has a rounded ball member formed thereat. As the blade is closed towards the retracted position, the blade contacts and deflects the second end of the biasing element until the rounded ball member of the second end engages the blade detent, resulting in the blade being held in the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 6367787
Abstract: A hand clamp includes a slide bar having a first jaw coupled to an end. A body having a jaw slidably receives the slide bar with the jaws in opposition. A drive assembly moves the slide bar in a single direction and includes a cavity formed in the body through which the slide bar extends. A driving lever is carried within the cavity to frictionally engage the slide bar and incrementally move it in the single direction. A braking lever is pivotally coupled to the body for movement into frictional engagement with the slide bar preventing the slide bar from moving in a direction opposite the single direction. A trigger handle is pivotally coupled to the body for moving the driving lever into and out of frictional engagement with the slide bar. A brake release is carried by the trigger handle for selectively engaging the braking lever.

  • Patent number: 6279433
Abstract: A locking pliers includes a body that supports a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. A lever is pivotably connected to the movable jaw, and a locking mechanism including a stub arm is coupled between the body and the lever to lock the jaws in a closed position. This locking mechanism includes an adjustment screw that is exposed at an end of the body remote from the fixed jaw. The body forms a resilient gripping surface that extends away from the exposed portion of the adjustment screw. This gripping surface extends beyond the end of the lever by at least about 4 inches such that the lever does not obstruct access to the grip. The user can place both hands on the grip to apply large torques to a clamped workpiece once the locking pliers has been locked in place on the workpiece.
